A beautiful roaring scream, of joy and sorrow so extreme...

Her response to the question about the elders is led with a broad grin spreading over her face. "With gypsies, gossip is very telling. You learn more about the truth of people from the whispered musings of others than if you rely on just what they are willing to share. The elders mostly keep their mouths shut and listen for the youngers to divulge their coveted secrets." She snickers a bit at that. "That's how you know someone has become an elder. They have learned when to shut their trap."

Approaching Ky and the horses now, Tali idly wanders between the beasts to look for her particular mount. She runs her fingers along their mane as she passes them, getting a feel for their personalities via their reactions. One calico mare leans its head back and nips at her fingers when her hand gets too close to its hump. With a faint laugh, Tali reaches up to scritch the horse's ears. "Frisky eh?" She teases the beast. "Must be the one for me."

She leans against the animal, stroking its neck and turning her gaze to Ky. "We all set then?"

User ImageAsmyrra had made her own way towards the meeting point, occasionally pausing when the recurring issue with her cough made itself too persistent to be ignored. Taking advantage of the attention of her companions being oriented towards their mounts, she quickly went through the saddlebags already in place on her own dapple mare, assuring herself that various components, a small conglomerate of rations, and several small, strangely ornate bags were stowed. Assured that her necessary belongings were in place, she quietly got herself settled on the saddle, absently smoothing her robe-like attire before turning her attention to her fellows.

"If there is nothing anyone can think of that they've forgotten, we should be set. The sooner we get started, the faster the next few days will pass," Asmyrra replied, her voice sounding quieter, more strained, than when she'd first introduced herself. She didn't want to send herself into another spasm of coughing so quickly, after all... not until she'd gotten a chance to work more of her healing magics to stabilize her damaged lungs, at least.

. o O (( Just to help make things a bit easier, and get the story moving, Imma just kinda describe the stuff you folks see as you go gallivanting about towards the Dale-lands. ^.^; )) O o .

Departing the forest where the Iron Fist's army had made camp was a matter of a day's travel, keeping in a generally north-westerly direction. Other than the occasional tangle with dense underbrush and small streams, that part of the journey was relatively uneventful. Night was marked by a small fire being made, rations and whatever small additions that were readily at hand from foraging being cooked, and the night's watch established. One hour per person, as marked by a single turn of a small hourglass with very faintly glowing sand that Asmyrra produced from her pouches. Asmyrra claimed the last watch, so that she would have time for her "studies" after she'd gotten a chance to rest.

After the group was rousted at dawn, foodstuffs were once again prepped before the horses were mounted once more, and the ride continued. Forest eventually gave way to grasslands, sporadically pock-marked by small clumps of trees, occasional rocky protrusions, and a steadily increasing number of rolling hills, leading quite clearly towards a magnificently soaring range of mountains not terribly far off. As the foothills themselves continued to increase, the grasslands eventually began giving way to the increasingly dense clustering of trees that often surround mountain ranges, leaving the group back in a forested surrounding by the end of the third day of riding. Fortunately, the group was not slowed too terribly by this change, for also during the third day, the main trade road heading into the mountains, and the heart of the Dale-lands, had been located.

The fourth day of travel along the Trader's Path was marked by occasional small communities carved from within the foliage, or an occasional valley transformed into agricultural area by the farmers living there. Each community was deftly skirted, after brief consultation with Talise, as to avoid stirring up the notoriously suspicious Dale-landers with the presence of uninvited strangers. The Trader's Path itself was a well-worn, well-established road, with small wood and masonry bridges over streams that increased steadily in size and rarity as the land grew more steep and mountainous.

By the middle of the fifth day of travel, a grand river had been located, and, once more after conference with Talise for direction, the group's path was directed along it. Eventually, the sounds of a fair-sized community began overcoming the vigorous burbling of the river, overshadowed by a low, distant rumbling roar, the sound of some grand waterfall that often bathed the lands in a dense, fog-like mist...

User Image Never mistake tears for sadness...
Eva stretched as unobtrusively as she could, shifting in her saddle slightly to try and get a little more comfortable. As of late, riding had become slightly easier on her body but if they asked anything more than a light trot, she would probably fall off. She grimaced at that thought, rubbing the sore spot on the back of her head where she had hit it after having a disagreement with the ground. As she drew her hand away, her fingers brushed the fletching of her arrows and instantly her mind recalled exactly which arrows they were. Some years back, she had taken to modifying the arrangement of the fletching to improve the flight distance of her arrows. Eva had seen enough improvement regardless of the numerous frustrations to continue tinkering.

It had gotten to the point where she could tell exactly what was at the end of the shaft just by touching the fletching. A rather handy skill when in the heat of battle she barely had time to draw arrows much less search for specific ones. Taking a moment to count them once more, she turned her mount to the left slightly and away from the lush grass the horse had been eyeing again. Every few minutes or so Eva had to turn him back to the path but it wasn't so much of a bother. She understood how the gelding felt. It was hard not to wander off the road you were taking when your belly was empty and food was so close. Then she noticed something was missing.

A small frown began to form for a moment as she counted her arrows again and was about to remove her quiver when she remembered the small bundle tied to the saddle just in front of her. She had removed the six remaining arrows and the remains of the seventh from her quiver as a sort of precaution which she still wasn't sure was necessary. Johannes was probably the only one to get a good look at the arrowhead if he even gave it a second glance and didn't even have it in his possession anymore. Still, the less suspicion she aroused, the better, and for now caution would win out. Nudging her horse away from the grass, again, she directed him futher to the left towards Tali.

"I do believe my bones are protesting against this abuse. I don't understand how any of you wcan walk so freely after riding these beasts all day."

She patted the gelding fondly on the neck as she spoke, glad for not having to walk the distance even if muscles she didn't know existed would ache later that evening. The horse neighed softly, almost as if in response.
...that will only bring you grief.

Eva's mild grumbling is met with a humored smirk. "You think your bones are aching? Just imagine how the poor horse feels." She teases her half-elven companion, goodheartedly. Ever since they had cleared the great river, Talise had been mulling about in her own thoughts. Unfortunately, no matter how many times she practiced in her head the future conversation with the friend waiting for them in the town beyond, she still couldn't come up with a satisfactorily convincing speech. She knew she was in trouble. Sapphire eyes briefly scan over the small riding train. How was she ever going to get Domini to agree to this??

"We're getting very close now." The offhanded comment most likely directed towards Eva, but the next is spoken louder, her gaze moving to their new boss. "We will probably hit the village just before dark. Once we are there, it'd be best if everyone kept a low profile and followed my lead. My contact will be in the tavern towards the outskirts of town."

Ky stays on guard atop his mount. Thus far the journey had been uneventful, but he was determined not to become complacent. He glances in Azmyrra's direction every so often, watching her with concern. He was glad to see that whatever it was that was bothering her back at the camp was no longer as serious.

He wipes a bit of sweat off his brow with his right hand, then reaches back for his water bladder. Quickly taking a swig he swallows and addresses Tali. "What is this contact of yours like Talise." After hours of ridicule from his three female companions he started making it a point to not be so formal with them (though he still called Azmyrra Commander.)

"Erm... my contact?" A smile draws over her face as she considers how exactly to describe her long time friend to these unknowns. "She's spirited... adventurous... pays very close attention to detail. She's thorough, hard working... a bit reclusive, and anti-social with strangers..." In her mind, her inner monologue can't help but correct every word as it leaves her mouth.

Spirited feisty...
adventurous headstrong ...
pays very close attention to detail perfectionist...
thorough OCD...
hard working persnickety...
a bit reclusive total introvert...
anti-social with strangers paranoid...

Each echoing after-thought is met with fond recollection from the young gypsy. Memories flash through her mind of their many adventures... adventures of the Squee.

"She is really pretty great once you get to know her. She's a very loyal friend." Tali explains, affection slipping into her voice as she finishes off her original sentence.

User ImageA faint smile crossed Asmyrra's lips as she listened to the gypsy woman's description of the friend they were about to meet. The vague... obscurity... of some of the words gave clue to deeper meanings, however, especially such things as feisty and headstrong. Someone who'd earned such titles from the wild and fiercely independent Gypsies was simply bound to be interesting. Shaking her head softly, those angular eyes cast a mock-dubious look in Talise's direction.

"With such words, this person sounds like 'Trouble'... capitol 'T', lots of emphasis," she murmured, her thick accent approaching something of it's normal vibrant purr. The last few days had seen a great deal of resting, meditations, and careful redirection of her energies... Asmyrra had been more than simply pleasantly surprised by how quietly the journey had been. She could still feel the nagging weakness in her chest when she was too vigorous in her moving abouts, trying to contribute to camp duties, but at least she could speak with relative comfort... though she'd no intention of offering anything more than a normal volume. Ky could do any shouting needed.

"...though, with most friends worth keeping around, 'Trouble' seems to be part of the bargain, hmm?"

Ky allows himself to smile a bit at the short exchange between his superior officer and the young Gypsy. "Well I must say Talise, if this friend of yours is anything like you, she must be quite interesting indeed. I am both curious and excited to know what sort of transportation she has for us."

Ky looked in the direction of Evalin and smiled warmly. Though Azmryrra had told him to think and gather more evidence in regards to wither her or Tali being the would-be assassin, he still couldn't help but suspect the two of them. At this point he was leaning more toward Evalin, though he reminded himself not to be swayed by demeanor and appearance alone. Regardless, he had been keeping a close eye on her during this journey. He had seen nothing to suggest she was in any way dishonest, yet he just couldn't shake the feeling. On that same note, he had made no action to suggest he did not trust her.

"Fret not Evalin, with enough time on the saddle anyone can walk with ease."
