At the moment, I am too poor to afford such awesome outfits like you folks. That will hopefully change in the near future. I plan putting an outfit together similar to my avatar's.

just took a couple of new pictures of me trying on my new design; the Semi-Waistcoat. this is actually a full waistcoat, but only wearing one side, the belts aren't attached. this waistcoat was a gift from my sister, so im gonna buy another to cut up to actually make a semi-waistcoat. (these were taken in front of a dusty mirror... so you cant see some of the detail, like the pinstripes on the waistcoat) im working on a Steampunk outfit for conventions and such, with a theme of Halves. i will be wearing a Semi-Waistcoat, with a Semi-Longcoat (which goes the opposite way, so when the jacket is on, you cant tell theres only half a waistcoat underneath) and will be wearing a single glove (one of my armoured Paintballing Gloves probably, as they are AMAZING!) also, i bought some new gold-rimmed dress spectacles today for just £2 at the local fancy dress store. they look like these only with brown lenses: http://www.dargate.com/cat/244_auction/244_images/1206.jpg

Look what I found! Pictures of my very first steampunk outfit! It was for the Halloween before last. I didn't have much in the way of steampunk clothes until then. Got the shirt and the reversible vest at my local Goodwill. I liked those ski goggles, but I've lost them somewhere... Here's an alternate boyish outfit I was thinking of using. And here's a picture of me and my friend at a convention: I guess that's all I have in the way of pictures right now...

Is red ok to use in an outfit? I know earthen tones and such are generally preferred, but, hey, it's partly about making it your own.

i would personally not use a colour that bright, nor let it take over most of the outfit.
that said, ive seen a guy with a Royal Blue wasitcoat with Gold Trim. VERY steampunk, but without the sterotypical Brown in it.

You can't really tell but this shirt is naval blue even if in the same style, and it seems to work better, but I could hardly resist finally using this web-cam filter.

As requested here are the pictures of my MiG pilots helmet/headphones: to complete this project you will need: 1) Pilots helmet, preferably one which has existing headphones inside it. Soviet era MiG pilots helmets (such as my own) currently seem to have glutted the market and are reletively inexpensive. 2) Additional wiring: the wiring inside the helmet itself is probably still usable, but if not you need to use your own. 3) Soddering gun 4) New pair of headphones. 5) Glue. Good glue, prefereably suitable for leather. 6) a modern headphone connection (the sticky part of your headphones you plug into the music player to hear delicious tunes) You will need to rip out the existing head phones inside the helmet (you can not do this and use them, but they are shitty 70's-80's soviet made crap, so presuming you want things like "quality" in your music, I suggest you bite the bullet and buy some new ones you can harvest the speakers from). In order to do this you will need to peel back the foam (foam?) ear cushion and do ripping. Now sodder your new headphones in. That plug in the back looks wierd so gut it out, sodder the new wiring on, and put the new outlet sticky part on the end. Put into into your mp3 or cd player and you should have amazing sound quality, or silence. If the later go back and retrace your steps: either the wiring in the helmet is old and faulty or you have'nt soddered something correctly. THIS IS POSSIBLE: TRUST ME! This has been brought to you by Sidnay: DIY Steampunk is the best Steampunk biggrin
