As the pain increased, Amuriel growled lightly and shook her head. She didn't like this, and it was too obvious for her to try saying she wasn't near having the pups.
"I hurt..." she whined, stretching her head out to her mate.

Now even more worried, Maelthra nuzzled her gently while letting out a soft whine. Shifting a bit, he looked around before watching her with concern.
"Is it time...?" he asked, unsure what he needed to do at this point. Though if it was time, then he needed to go fetch help as soon as he can. And hopefully he won't take too long as to come back with help too late.
His tail swished apprehensively and his wings twitched lightly as he awaited her response.

Amuriel nodded, whimpering, and leaned back onto the bed with a groan. It wasn't too bad now, but she wondered how much longer it would be before it got worse. How much longer would it be before the pups arrived...? What should she do? Would it come naturally? And would Maelthra help her...? All she knew for certain now is that there was pain, and she closed her eyes, whimpering softly.

Maelthra's dark red eyes widened as Amuriel nodded. Though normally calm, he almost felt himself on the verge of panicking at this moment. But he took in a few deep breaths and shook his head vigorously to try and keep himself as calm as possible about this. But it was hard to keep away the nervousness as he was going to be a father within the next who knows how many hours.
As he nuzzled her, his mind frantically began to think about who he could go to. He needed to find someone that has been around enough to know what the birthing process is like. Cayliant? No... that elder probably didn't know much more than he did. Mornandum? As if Maelthra would let him try and handle the pups.
...Beriothien!! He's been around for ages! He has to know a thing or two about this...
"I... I'll go get Ber. He should be able to help us... Will you be alright? I'll try to be a quick as possible..." he said while licking her face.

"I'll be alright," Amuriel responded, opening her eyes and watching him as she tried to keep herself relaxed and calm. "Just hurry, okay?"
She didn't want him to be gone for very long. She didn't know what she would do if she had to birth the pups alone, or even if she could survive it alone. Still, if she had a birth much like a human, she knew it would take some time from the start till the actual time when the babies would come.
Stretching her neck out, Amuriel managed to lick the tip of Maelthra's nose, and she managed a smile. "It'll be alright love... be safe... I love you," she said before lowering her head back to the bed, hoping the pain would stop soon.

"You too love... And I love you too..."
Nuzzling her gently, he smiled softly to her in return before hurrying out of the cave. Once he was in the clear, he spread his wings and took flight to head straight for Beriothien's tree house. It should be fairly easy to spot from the air, and he knew the general area it was located, so it shouldn't take him too long to find the place.
And sure enough, a little later, the black winged elder spotted the place from above where he promptly began to descend and shift forms so that he can land onto the platform of the treehouse without breaking anything.
With a light thud he landed and rushed in, calling for Beriothien, who to his surprise was with Drachus at the moment. Still despite this, he explained the situation and its urgency, hoping to be flying back to his cave with Ber as soon as possible.

While Maelthra was gone, Amuriel tried to keep herself as relaxed as possible. She felt her body's natural responses begin to grow as she proceeded toward the time when their children would arrive. There was no way of stopping it (though she wished almost that she could), but she could try to bear it. Maelthra would be back soon, she knew it... As a particularly strong pain passed over her, she groaned again, wishing he was with her now.

Maelthra couldn't help but feel slightly uncomfortable and that he got somewhat on Drachus's bad side back there, but it didn't matter so much right now as he was flying back with Beriothien. Before long, he landed outside of his home, letting the ruler of the forest down before hurrying in.
"Amuriel! I'm back! And I have Ber to help!"
For now he had to stay with Amuriel to give her comfort as the elf should be able to take care of everything else concerning the birth he thought.

Hearing Maelthra return, Amuriel lifted her head, relieved to see him again. It wasn't long before Ber had entered as well, and for the next several hours, the elf, and her own mate, helped her through labor and the birthing.
For a short while, she was somewhat embarrassed to have the Keeper of the Forest helping her in such a way, but the knowledge and skill he brought kept her more comfortable and the birthing easier. After a while, she became too concentrated on the birthing to feel any humiliation. Still...even with Ber's help... it was painful and impossibly tiring.
When all the stages of labor had finished, she lay back on the bed again, exhausted and panting. She quickly fell unconscious, her body too worn to remain awake. She had had five pups, and it had nearly been too much for her.

Though he wasn't in any pain, just the anxiety of the birthing process was enough to make Maelthra feel extremely worn by the time it was all done. Smiling at Amuriel, he nuzzled her gently while peering over at her side to see five puppies; two boys and three girls.
"We have five.. Five!" he said in surprise.
It certainly explained why Amuriel had gotten so big during her pregnancy though. And while he was elated to see them all, he was also still a bit worried as he didn't know if he needed to do anything else at this point. The fact that Amuriel had passed out from exhaustion was worrysome too, but he was reassured that she simply needed rest from the stressful experience.
Once everything was all settled and when Amuriel would awake, he could go ahead and bring Ber back to his home.
This is it... I'm a father now! he thought, wishing his mate was awake at the moment so that he could pour his love onto her. But for now he had to make do with nuzzling her gently and watching the five puppies which were all so tiny at the moment.

After a while, Amuriel awoke again, blinking slowly and twisting her head around to try to see the pups at her side. One.. two.. three.. four..
"Five?!" she exclaimed softly. Five. No wonder she had felt so bloated for the past few months! They were so incredibly small.
Where was Maelthra? Spotting him next to her, she grinning and nuzzled him, "I love you.." While she still felt tired, she was also excited. Their puppies had arrived. All five!
She looked back to her puppies again and was about to push herself up before Ber said something about needing nourishment and gently nudged the pups to her stomach. A few seconds later, she felt an odd sensation and realized they had begun nursing on her. Keeping her head turned toward them, she watched them until her neck began to tingle from the awkward position, and she laid her head back on the ground.
Five... she couldn't tell yet, since they were still somewhat dirty from the birth, but it looked like there was a white one, two blue ones, a green one, and a black one. She hadn't been able to see their genders at all. But.. most of all, they looked healthy. Hungry.. but healthy.
She smiled and flicked her tail lightly, watching her mate happily now instead.

While waiting for his mate to recover, Maelthra watched over the pups with curiosity. It was an odd thought for something so small to be able to grow as big as an elder, or even an adult dragonfly! He just hoped that he wouldn't accidentally hurt them while handling them, though it would probably better to do that in his alternate form.
Just from staring at them all from above like that, he couldn't really tell their genders too easily, but Ber had told him which were which.
When Amuriel came about, he couldn't help but smile at her with a gentle nuzzle. From the sounds of things, she was just as surprised as he was about the size of their litter. Not just about their actual physical size, but the number of them as well.
"I love you too... " he said softly before glancing down to see the five hungry newborns feeding, "They're beautiful... just like their mother..."

"Mmm. I don't think you could call me beautiful right now," Amuriel chuckled, suddenly wondering what she did look like. She could imagine... a mess. When she had watched the pups, she had barely taken in herself, yet from what she had seen, she had barely been able to recognize. She hoped that Maelthra would help her bathe herself and the pups sometime later.
Feeling the pups finish feeding, she twisted her head around again to make sure before finally carefully pushing herself upright somewhat and curling her tail and legs around their pups protectively. She nosed at them gently, curious.
Did she and Maelthra really make these furry little ones? Did they really live and grow in her for many months? She found it amazing to believe, yet here they were. A couple looked like Maelthra while a couple others looked like her, and between all of them they had aspects of both their mother and father. She discovered there were three girls and two boys.
Looking back up at Maelthra, she grinned, "They look like us."

"You're always beautiful my love..."
Chuckling softly, Maelthra licked the side of her face before staring down at the pups. Before, he was apprehensive about how well he would be around them, but now that they had arrived, he couldn't help but feel proud. He just hoped that he would be able to help raise them well.
Though, looking over the rest of his family, he mentally noted to help give everyone a bath soon. Ber had helped with the clean up somewhat but some work still needed to be done.
"Oh yes.. I should be taking Ber back to his home now. Will you be alright while I fly out? Start thinking up of names..."
Smiling, he nuzzled her gently before doing the same with each of the five children gently.

Amuriel thought for a moment and nodded, "I will be alright while you're gone, and I'll try to think up some names."
Knowing that Ber needed to get back first, she had put off her own body's callings. She could wait just a little while before she carried them out. First off, she wanted water, and then a long, true rest. Not only was she extremely tired, but she was also extremely thirsty. Her body itself also still ached from the childbirth. Ber had attempted to give her a few pain killing herbs, but they had had little effect on her, considering she was an elder. Lastly, she felt a great urgency for some sort of bath for herself and her pups and for a replacement of their bed or at least a washing.
For now, though, she smiled down at her pups and nudged the blue boy gently, trying to think of possible names.
