Mokutan watched his master with Mild curiosity now, wondering what it was that his master sought in this clearly forsaken place. Then again, perhaps he did have some idea. He knew his boss well, and despite the difference in their personalities, generally had a good notion of what the boy was thinking. After that whole fiasco at the training fields, he knew that his boss was looking for something, something that would give him yet another edge to arsenal, something that would make him powerful enough to maintain his calm in the future. He knew his boss hated to lose his temper like that, hated acting on pure emotion rather than undiluted will and logic.
Yes the bird was fairly sure that if it was some long hidden dark power his master sought, this place would certainly seem the right place to look. He suspected he could talk here and no one would be about to hear them, but he decided to leave his master to it a bit longer.

Xenon's hand reached up as he removed his glasses, setting aside the decorative facial ornament. He didn't need them to see, his eyes were sharper then most, but as he'd had to explain on many an occasion, he wore them for another reason, an ironic, and slightly humorous reason, but one none the less. Setting them beside him as he continued to skim the many long forgotten texts, Xenon was starting to find himself shutting books the instant certain passages came into view. Some of these were dark, he had to admit, he was not a person with a weak tolerance of harsh reality, that had to be admitted, but at the same time their were some things that appalled even him, and most of them were likely within the pages that surrounded him.

Xenon ran a hand through his hair, though his expression was still passive. He didn't seem at all perturbed by his lack of tangible progress thus far. The only thing that might have gotten to him eventually was the material in these texts. Many were, as previously stated, unreadable, but some that weren't made even his blood run with a little extra chill. It seemed like the Devil's definition of Immorality wasn't even enough for the first Otokage, his very presence seemed to almost linger on certain texts, and in many cases Xen found himself wondering if the legendary scientist had wrote them personally...he supposed it might not have been entirely out of the question, though one would think that many of these would have been locked up in a vault somewhere.

Orochimaru was always somewhat of a hush hush topic around Oto. Not including the recent run in with the Cults, it was actually rare for him to even hear his name spoken aloud without some kind of curse attached. Even centuries after his death, the man's legacy still lingered on. Xenon found it slightly poetic really, here that fool got himself killed seeking immortality, a twist of irony in itself, but even after failing, he'd succeeded in some small way. His complete disregard for Morals of any kind, any personal scruples he might have had washed away by the unflattering texts of history, and his various wicked, albeit ingenious deeds, winning him an immortality of a different sort then the one he'd been seeking. He was not able to escape death, but in the end he would not be forgotten.

Search for a Dark Secret... DC:25 Formula: 1d20+Int Train: 0/10 Roll:5+15 ( xd Oh come on.)
He'd really been shocked when he'd realized the Cults that hid under the passages of Oto actually worshiped the ways of the first as though he was some kind of god, but then he supposed in the end he wasn't surprised. People could be made to believe in anything, and power was always an effective way to make this happen. Power was something that Orochimaru had had, he supposed that was his draw. That was what separated him from the garden variety of other psycho's and heartless genocidists that dotted histories background. His Power was what earned him his fame, his village, and all the rewards each brought to him before his eventual, and inevitable demise.
Xenon always found it Ironic that one of the man's powers was said to have been stretching out his neck. It was amusing in the sense that was why he died. The devilish man had stuck his neck out too far, tried to stretch himself to thin, and that was what had gotten him killed. He'd been completely without remourse, and so none was shown to him, he was without loyalty, so in the end he was alone, he was without morals, so in the end the world called him evil.
Xenon adjusted his glasses as he shoved another text aside, only to recall he'd taken them off, he gave a small chuckle.

Xenon's eyes seemed to flash slightly, a hint of interest catching them. A mere hint, a brief mention, a vague reference, but it was something. It seemed that a documenter of Oto's more "Morally corrupt" treasures, had been deeply disturbed by something missing from their collection. This book was ancient as it was, if it had been missing then...perhaps it was still undiscovered? But what WAS this treasure that man kept hinting too? The author seemed to not want to put it's name to ink, but he mentioned how dangerous it would be were it to fall into the wrong hands, and, how arduously he had already sought it. He was beginning to fear it had either been long tucked away in a place that few knew of, or perhaps, even worse, stolen. He mentioned that he would be further documenting this in his records in the years to come. He did not intend to let this drop. Xenon's interest was peaked. He'd caught the scent...now the hunt was on.

Mokutan seemed to take Xenon's improvement in mood as a good sign, and finally spoke. "So, boss..." he didn't even need to finish his reply before Xenon gave him a small sly smirk.
"You needn't worry, I'm not overly troubled, I'm merely looking for something."
Mokutan seemed pleased with this reply, half not having been expecting to even get one. "What for Chief? I mean, that new Genjutsu you used looked pretty darn effective to me, if you'd used that right from the get go, heck, ya might have been able to take him on by yourself. I get that you kinda had a bit of a revelation back there, but what's that got to do with getting stronger that ya need to rethink yer method like this?"
Xenon smiled, he always liked how easy it was to converse with his avian friend, the bird would literally have followed him regardless of decision, so he never really needed to sugar-coat anything for him. "Two reasons actually," the silver haired teen explained. "First of all because I've realized how crippling having your opponent expecting Genjutsu from you can be," he looked at that texts as he spoke, his search continuing. "It's really quite a difficult handicap, and when my Senbon fail as well, I don't think even an effective Taijutsu form would be able to fully close the gap."
Mokutan was nodding "I gotcha...so your gonna find something that can huh? something that'll blow'em outta the water if they break your Genjutsu."
"Exactly."

"So what's the second reason?" but the stopped as Xenon suddenly held up a finger, his calm expression focusing slightly as he concentrated on the book before him.
"Hold on, I've found something..." his Crow nodded encouragingly as the young Maboroshi read on. Here it was again. The mysterious Documenters next entry, well, rather yet another entry of his. It seemed that this record had been specially confiscated for this very reason, it wasn't clear how many records he made in between this and the first, but his report was plain. He still hadn't found what he was seeking, and he'd apparently spent a few months on the process. Checking up leads that went nowhere and bribing mouths only to have them speak old news. It was all essentially nothing new to report, but to Xenon it was substantially more. Just from the methods the man was using to find this item in question, the people he listed as spoken too, the places he'd gone, it was clear that this Item was extremely valuable, an item of interest to the rich and rare collectors, but also, and more importantly, it was a scroll of some kind.
Xenon had to be pleased with the man's persistence as he made another declaration not to give up.

Xenon nodded again and looked up "Go on."
Mokutan nodded, apparently not having been at all bothered by the wait. He was essentially just making idle conversation after all, curious about the details of the bosses plan, it wasn't anything worth ruffling his feathers over. "Right, I was gonna ask what the second thing was."
Xenon slipped his coat off, hanging it over the back of the chair as he got up to go search the shelves for other texts. "Simply put, I've realized that I'm still not strong enough, and that bothers me." he sounded quite casual about it, as though they were discussing a slight rash he had developed on his arm. "If you really want to think of it this way, I'm just trying to scratch that itch."
Makutan seemed to understand completely "Yeah, yeah, I gotcha, I figured it was something like that."

Xenon was still looking about with his calm expression, but something of spark had now lit a wire inside his mind. He was seeking about for what this treasure could possibly be. From the what the man was saying about, not just anyone could use it, but at the same time, it would not necessarily take a master either. Regardless of this though, it was sure to be a Jutsu of some kind, a Jutsu that was apparently particular powerful and dangerous, the man seemed to speak even as though this Jutsu was famous somehow. Xenon could cast his mind about Oto's history to think of a few of their lost arts, but then when one had a history so shrouded, there might even be things that he himself had never heard of. He'd just have to wait and see he supposed. He was certain the other records would hold the secret he was looking for... he was certain.

As Mokutan settled down for a long wait, Xenon set back down with yet another stack of scrolls, not even flinching now as he came across the grizzly details of an forbidden experiment or the particularly macabre notes on an execution long omitted from the regular records. The dark stain of Oto's past was strong here, but now Xen didn't even seem to notice it. Driven as he was by his knew found interest, all else was unimportant, and mere static to the forefront of his mind. He could have come across seven conspiracies in his search and still never bat an eye to them, nor would he recall them later, This was not a normal study session, this was a hunt. A hunt where he still didn't have his prey in clear sights...

Another Record, another story, and another set of hints to his elusive new goal. The Documenter had appearnetly become driven even harder to find the scroll by recent events. apparently some sort of war was threatening, and the scroll appearing on the other side could spell their doom. Xenon tried to control the smile he got from this. A scroll which could tip the scales in a war? This was getting more and more promising. He went on about the scrolls potential, and the fears he had concerning it's misuse, but one line stuck out to Xenon above all the others. Near the very end of the record, the Documenter said, in no uncertain terms. "The last thing we need, is another Orochimaru."
Xenon's heart was beating slightly faster. He supposed he shouldn't have been surprised.

His mouth was a slightly dry as he continued his search now, and it was all the more focused. The Scroll had belonged to Orochimaru then, the man had said as much, at the very least it was a Justu the man himself had utilized or created. What was more, this use had placed a stigma upon the Jutsu in question, that certainly narrowed down the list of what it could be.
When one mentioned the Devil of Oto and his powers, there were always several key powers that were remembered even now. His ability to use Impure World Resurrection, his strange Snake like abilities, and of course, his ability to switch bodies.
The Body switching he could rule out almost once. From the clues the man had been dropping, it didn't seem to fit. How could one Utilize the body switching Jutsu to turn the tide of a war? Xenon could figure out a way or two if pressed certain, but it was not immediately apparent, and the man had made it sound like only a fool would not see how it could turn the tide against them. But then...

The Snake Qualities were also slightly indoubt. It was true they seemed to have been rather formidable in combat, but they did not sound as though they would have been much more then a useful Jutsu... the most likely culprit then was probably... Xenon's hunt was slowed for a moment before it continued full thrust. The Impure World Resurrection. The Ability to call forth the dead, resurrecting Histories greatest warriors to fight beside you as immortal weapons of destruction. Turn the tide? One could win a war by one's own power with such a technique. It was certainly a possibility. But then... what did it mean for his own uses? The Technique would probably be incredibly difficult to master, the Chakra theory involved alone far above his normal level. Still...if he were to obtain such a thing. It would be many years before he could ever use it...but...
He decided not to count his chickens before they hatched, and kept on searching.

Another record. Xenon's eyes skimmed it several times, absorbing each word into his memory and trying his best to sponge the slightest hint of a hidden meaning. The man had yet to name the object, but it was now becoming more and more clear that it wasn't the Impure world Resurrection. The Author seemed quite sure that a reasonably skilled ninja would be able to use it effectively, and the average Jounin would be able to use it to turn armies. This didn't fit with the impure world resurrection. It was well known that the technique was only performable by a master, a Genius, even if Xenon hadn't had an earlier chance to peruse Orochimaru's personal research notes that had been in the possession of the unfortunate victim of his second mission, he would have known that not just anyone could preform it, even an especially strong Jounin. So then...did that leave the Snake like abilities? Or was there some concealed devilry of Orochimaru that History had let fade for fear of it? Some other dark secret hidden by his village... Xen continued his search...
