Hmm, the only veteran characters that haven't been seen yet are Ness, Luigi, Jigglypuff, and Captain Falcon. Coincidentally(?), they were the four unlockable characters in the original SSB.
While it's pretty cool to see Lucas, his appearance also seems to have raised several more issues:
Is Ness still going to be included?
If so, are they going to have seperate movesets? The screenshots look like Lucas uses the same PK attacks that Ness featured in the previous games.
If Lucas is a 'clone' of Ness (or vice-versa?), will other clone characters make a comeback? I'd love to play as Dr. Mario again, but other characters, like Ganondorf specifically, deserve to be unique fighters.

Konime CherubiMaster Konime If they brought back the Ice Climbers I'm positive Ness is still going to be in the game. It's just that Lucas looks so much like Ness's clone and there aren't gonna be clones so. I know, but the no one ever used the Ice Climbers and I was sure they weren't going to be in it and just because Sakurai said that there wouldn't be clones doesn't mean there won't be. He also said that there wouldn't be Japanese only characters and know we have Lucas. Actually, he said he's questioning Japan only characters in Brawl, but after the success of Marth and Roy, he's not sure where he stands on them. Obviously, that has been answered.

I now believe they will be separate characters, not clones or alternate costumes of each other. Look at these screens:  It appears to be a PK Thunder, but he's using his hand instead of the crouching motion Ness does. Note also only one eye is closed, as if he's aiming for a straight shot, not a homing PK missle ala Ness' PK Thunder. In this shot, he's jumping. Obviously. Look close though. He doesn't have Ness' usual jump aura.

I thought I read/heard somewhere that everyone from the original Smash Bros. was going to be in Brawl. Though I'm not entirely sure. It was a while ago and I'm not sure where I heard it exactly.

I just now saw the Dojo.
And holy crap, it's Lucas! He's so badass.
I love Mother/Earthbound. I'm trying to import Mother 3.
It looks like he's not a Ness clone. He looks awesome too. Brawl really made me realize that they can step up the graphics.

It covers most of his body from the front.
The second one could be a footstool jump, or just his second jump. I did notice the lightning, but usually it's a bit more than that. That is, unless it's the end of his jump.

It could just be redesigned. Otherwise, I wouldn't know what it is.
Also, I just noticed that it looks kinda like lucas is floating in that first one. O.O
