((gameplay-wise, Kimahri was basically a 'whatever you want him to be' character. While all the other characters had unique sections of the sphere grid, Kimahri had a small section that gave no abilities and uniform stat growth, after which, if you wanted to continue leveling him, you needed to start following someone else's sphere grid. Because there was such a focus on monster weaknesses -x is only effectively hit with magic, y can only be harmed with piercing ability - it makes him redundant. His role in the story was very small as well. He took Yuna to Besaid -which could've been avoided by, say, having her father take her before starting his pilgramige -, he acts concerned about Yuna and takes efforts to protect/rescue her -could've been replaced with any of her other guardians acting like that-, and there's the whole Mt Gagazette thing, which wasn't really important and could've been done without him))

((I agree that Kimahri is the odd man out in FFX - but that's the reason Vaan is even more useless. He's the protaganist, yet brings absolutely nothing to the story - gameplay wise & storyline wise, he is just not needed [or wanted] in any way. He's just some random gay kid who wants to ride an airship. Big Whoop. They could have made him an NPC.))

((Gameplay, I think Vaan was pretty redundant - but since the characters are basically all the same with minor stat differences, it's not really an issue, and what really makes a character useful in XII is how much you like them. As for the story, he's not the hero, to be sure, but if it wasn't for him, the story wouldn't have happened))

((Nah, the writers could have written him out easily and made either Balthier, Ashe, or Basch the main character from the start with only a slight change in how all the characters came together. He's completely unnecessary IMO.))

[There is a topic about Vaan already, but even when I have some dislike to him, he isn't useless to storyline. He is the mirror for other characters. Their morality, justifications to their actions are all echoed through Vaan. Oddly enough, Vaan is the character that makes others think twice what they do and why. (I hope that sounded as half as smart as I think it was... biggrin )]
