I apologize for any slights that I might have put through in my typing. I've got nothing against Ultramarines that would make me want to stop someone from playing them.

BHS, how are other chapters not tactical? Kavyaan Shrike led a small force of Marines behind the lines of enemy Orks for (what, three?) years before being evacuated again, suffering little to no casualties along the way. White Scars use advanced scouting parties to track enemy locations before screaming in on Bikes or armored transports, annihilating their objective, and sweeping away again. Sure, some chapters might come across a bit more hamfisted, but all of them have a tried and true combat doctrine with tactical leaders that have literally centuries of experience.

im not saying other chapters are not tactical, thats the farthest from what im trying to say. infact i play Ravenguard, and i use all scout armies... but no one seems to give the Ultra's enough credit for the tactical work they do...

No gives them credit because they are the poster-boys for GW and the SW.
They are good for getting people into the game because they have a nice look and, to me at least, seem a little Mary Sue-ish.
But in the fact that they are Mary Sue-ish they aren't and I'll shut up before confusing people.

It's all because of the Codex Astartes. Most captains follow it to the letter and as such, are wonderful tactical masterminds or whatever. Except for captain Uriel Ventris, he's the real genius for going his own way.

The Codex Astartes is the single most important document in Space Marine history... even 'non-codex' chapters recognize the significance of it and its teachings... Roboute Guilliman, even playing a very small role in the Heresy Era was the greatest tactical mind amongst the Emperor's Sons.

Guilliman was sent off by Horus and kept busy by the Word Bearers. but he was no better than the Lion or Dorn when it came down to petty squabbles.

what do you mean petty squabbles? im referring to his military tactics and strategies... other primarchs and the Emperor himself acknowledge Guiliman as one of the best tactical minds.

It depends, each Legion had its own niche to fulfill, Ultras are more of a jack of all trades.

to me, Guilliman was master of logistics, allowing his legion to grow exponentially without inducing geneseed flaws... and remember, amateurs discuss tactics, pros discuss logistics razz

that is a reason i push the ultras so much, there geneseed is flawless, and do to there systems vast resources they are never in danger of low numbers or equipment

But for some people, that's just too boring.
Hence why I call them Mary Sue-ish.

In the end, it's up to the players.

i just want to interject that the Crimson Fists are a devout Astartes chapter, there are little to no flaws in their geneseed, and they are bred to be siege masters, if they take after their founding chapter, though they are only back to about half their original strength and all. And they where the original poster boys in rogue trader magazine. i don't know how relevant that is but i just wanted to put out what i knew when it came to astartes following, yet colorfull, chapters.

*tries to calm down*

Yeah.. I may have just stumbled upon the new codex and well, I got a sneak peak at it and must say very proudly (Space Wolves were my first army and first 40K love if you will) that this is a codex well deserved!

To get it right out of the way, I can't wait to see how much hatred builds up towards how 'cheese' it will be because some of the stuff I've read I honestly can't believe is true while other stuff just makes me giddy like a school girl about to meet her favourite celebrity. lol

Needless to say without leaking spoilers and getting in trouble, I'm going to be anxiously awaiting release day so I can get my hands on all the new goodies. lol

My source...well, let's just say that there's a means by which they won't get in trouble.

Up to 4 HQs fieldable.

Ragnar Blackmane adds +d3 attacks to the unit that he joins, along with having fairly formidable stats on his own.

Bjorne the Fellhanded is back, and is some kinda badass. He's a 13/12/10 dreadnought who is WS/BS 6, A4, S7 with 1 Dread CC and a TL Autocannon that can be upgraded to a Plasma Cannon for free. He gets a 5+ Invul and when he dies, all SW become fearless and his remains count as an objective.

Grimnar can opt to either make his Frost Blade attacks one handed or two, making the difference between normal strength and power fist stats. His total number of attacks can also be split, meaning some normal attacks and some powerfist.

Rune Priests have a psychic ability where all non-vehicle enemy models in a 24" line in front of them take an initiative test or die. Bye bye, Necrons.

A ten man squad of Grey Hunters can buy one special weapon and get the other one for free.

Terminator Wolf Guard are in.

That's all that I've got for you guys for now.

-=Edit=-
Might be old news, but some folks haven't seen it yet.
