The only reason they didn't get a fighter is because the waiting list was exhausted. If the waiting pool was distributed in a random and fair way then I don't see how it's unfair, it's all luck. It happens in real tournaments all the time, hell, most real world tournaments wouldn't even bother with a waiting list.

You can't blame them if there weren't 5 more people who wanted to participate in the thing. There's nothing else you could have done, because disqualifying them for something that is out of their control would actually be unfair.

The only way that it might had been better handled is by having the judges play a random character to lose with so that the persons getting the bye would still suffer some of the same consequences as those who didn't, but then again, who's to say they would have suffered injuries in the first place? Byes are just a part of tournaments, I've never seen anybody complain about them on Gaia or in real life until this GTB lol.

No one is blaming them.

Further more. LAST year in both the DT and the GTB if the people didn't have to fight -someone- then they got, guess what? DQ'D!

In fact in LAST years GTB, Vin made NPC's for them to fight. This has not even been a topic this year.

Rather than -waste- my breath arguing with you, I'm going to pick my Mother up from the airport.

Oh boy...

And man, why is it that I always see Kamiha's name connected to half of the arguments that pass through this thread? Jeeze...

    I was about to make a comment about someone needing to watch more good movies, but I was beaten to it. D;

I'm abstaining from making any further remarks on this bye-week thing.. obviously it's more complicated than I can grasp.

There are very few people in the world whose opinions I will disregard before I even read them, lollipop, but since you apparently make the decisions like, in the past, telling a guy like Tenkai Matsumoto to "******** off" I can pretty much precede anything you say by noting that you must be messed up in some part of your brain. Because I've never in my life met a person who has the right to tell that guy anything other than "thank you".

Unfortunately, however, people may read your post and think it has some merit. This would be a sad thing, as it really doesn't.

The waiting list was "exhausted" in so far as we judges were too idiotic to go "Hum, people need fights, and there are fighters who want in, but we won't let them jump aboard because we're bad at our jobs". So while the waiting list was empty, we were the idiots who decided to not open it back up to the public.

And your "only way to handle it better" is actually really not the only. The real way for an gesture like that to have any significance is to have the entrant GRADED. What we could have done, say, is to have had one judge create a score that a participant would have to pass, say 15 total points, and other judges, unaware of what this score was, would then rate a competitor while he fought an NPC fighter. If the judges scores exceeded 15 each, then the guy would pass to the next round.

But in the end, it was tossed for the idea we currently have to spare the brackets from collapsing on themselves.

Really, however, Elli makes the best point. It's our fault as the judges for not seeing how RIDICULOUS it was for some people to be assigned fights after their opponents left while others get to waltz through to the next round. Random chance isn't fair, but tournaments are supposed to be.

We made a mistake, and now I would like to give the competitors a chance to allow us to fix it so that everyone has the same chance to win or lose.

Here is where I will write this. Because the judges asked for it to be a place for voting, not debate.

The Crossed Fox
I choose option 1, surprisingly enough.

I'm all for fairness, but in this situation, each scenario is fair. The characters in question showed up to their fight with an absolute willingness to make it a good one. The problem is that the characters they were paired up against were not as gracious or dedicated to the match at hand.

Because of this, like any tournament - both real and fake - the man/woman who showed up to their fight without being late or breaking any rules, is granted an automatic passing to the next round. This is also known as "Winning by Default".

Actually, I heavily agree with Fox on this one. If someone wins become their opponent forfeited their spot then it's a win. In past GTBs, people who didn't have an opponent or had one who didn't show up either advanced or got a bye, and getting a bye is basically like winning anyways.

What both of you are forgetting here is that there were LOTS of people who forfeited and except for 3 participants, everyone else got assigned another fight.

If we're going to call a forfeit a win, it should be across the board. It's actually quite unfair to turn around to everyone else who's opponent didn't bother to show up, when they did, and say "Oh well you guys get a different standard because we weren't paying close enough attention to how many fighters we needed to run fights for everyone."

It's about equality then. Everyone should earn their spot in Round 2. I understand that.

If that's the case though, and we're trying to be fair and equal, then these three new matches deserve a full ten day round and we should all wait.

There's really no point in arguing with someone who lacks any understanding of how tournaments work and most obviously has never participated in any kind of competitive event in their life.

I mean, you're crying over the first round of like a six round tournament.

Let's say hypothetically everybody had shown up for their fights until the third round of the tournament and then a few members on the waiting list got in and they won their matches. Would you be whining that it's unfair since they didn't have to participate in previous rounds to advance too? Or let's say that after the first round the people on the waiting list were just SOL and someone got a bye in the third, or even the fourth round. Would you really whine about how unfair a bit of luck is?

I don't remember anyone getting disqualified last year in the GTB for not having anyone to fight, and I really don't remember that being a problem in the DT since it was not only a small but a team based event.

Any of the staff who were posting in the OOC during the duration of the first round could have played a random fighter, none of them took the initiative for whatever reason they had. Hell, they didn't have to, so why b***h about that?

Roen complained for the whole week that his fighter wasn't posting, and I don't know, you're whining that he's getting some kind of free ticket when you'd probably be more willing to bend on the situation if it were you.

Generally speaking, if we could get these guys to really just sit down and power out a fight, ten posts in two days will actually end up being longer of a fight than 50% of the other fights we're grading now. Round one was really just full of short fights.

Oh yeah, now I know why Kamiha is at the butt of these arguments. She thinks she's always right...

Same problems occurred in HoH two years in a row, complaining to the judges and trying to get her way.

That's right, I'm trollin'. I'm tired of seeing it for two years.

And that's what I'm saying.

If almost two weeks is hardly enough for ten posts, then what kind of result could we hope from just two days.

Because allowing people in after the deadline, even on the waiting list, is unfair to the people who got their things in on the deadline. But we understand that deadlines are more flexible for some than others. But sometimes it's easy to overlook the other side of fairness, I understand.

And what happens if the person didn't pass? You put someone on the waiting list in to fill the spot for the second round? The person who advanced in the bracket simply gets subjected to a bye or the same kind of scoring, and if they somehow fail, it can continue on down the chain?

Tournaments are about random chance. Like I said, I've never seen anybody complain about a bye in any kind of tournament before. It's understood that it happens and why it happens and it's accepted by people who frequent tournaments.

And I never complained about the judges in HoH, I never had a reason to. The DT though, I had my complaints sure. But then again, when judges don't really respect the participants and say things like "He was too stupid to complain" then there is a pretty good reason to not like the whole get up.

This is what happens when I vanish for a day.

I'm tempted to ignore the guild for one more day, but I'm afraid more stupid s**t will happen.
