Maia climbed into the back, flashing Dari a smile. She still held Seamus, but her grip on the cat sidhe had loosened now that they were in the car. "I'll bring you something," she promised. Cats, be they fae or not, were never welcome in restaurants.

Dari smiled to Maia and then settled in to open the bag of square, hand-made marshmallows. He grinned broadly at the crinkling sound and then turned to Maia.
"Did you help with these?" They had been bought, obviously, but he'd bet Maia had something to do with it. "Do you want to try one?" He opened the bag and closed his eyes at the sudden rush of smells. Was that was "sweet" smelled like? Would he get to know what it tasted like too?

Hm? Maia looked to Dari, then the marshmallows. "Yeah," She said. "I picked those out," she gestured to the bag he was opening. "See, I told you we'd get you marshmallows every time we go shopping." But these were fancy. Red velvet flavored. "They're different than the ones you're used to, but I brought some of those." She'd give them to him at the hotel later. When he offered her one, she shook her head. "They're for you!"

"Well that doesn't mean I can't share," Dari said, and took a bite. His first flavor ever to taste was red velvet, and it shocked his virgin palate. He made a series of faces, some concerned or even disgusted, but ended up with a broad smile. A sense of taste was interesting! He smiled to Maia and too another bite of the same square, relishing the crackly-bubbly sound it made. "Here! Eat one with me." He wanted to share!

Maia was about to refuse, and seemed to rethink. She took a marshmallow. "Together, then?" She asked.

Dari nodded and took out a new marshmallow for Maia, and then one for himself. He handed one over and opened his mouth, waited for Maia to do the same, and then popped it in just at the same moment she did. He put the bag in his lap and turned somewhat, taking Maia's hands. He chewed and swallowed, and then bounced her hands.
"Thank you for not giving up. And for these. For everything." His expression was soft and honest. She had been his first friend outside of the Bureau.

Maia gave Dari a bright smile. "You've earned this," She said. "All the good things you've done for everyone. Teaching me, helping me." She gave his hands a squeeze. It'd been about time someone did something for him.
"What kind of cake do you want to make?" she asked. "We could do a variety of flavors, if we did cupcakes."

"I don't know," Dari admitted, "I don't know what anything tastes like. Like this. What's this?" He looked back down at the bag. 'Red Velvet'. Well that was obviously a metaphor because he was in no way eating fabric. It told him nothing.

"Red velvet is a type of cake," Maia supplied, smiling at Dari. "That's why I suggested the cupcakes," she said. "Then you can try others, too. " She gave his hand a squeeze. "We can go shopping, and we'll buy everything you want to try."

Dari slumped and laughed.
"I know it's a kind of cake. What flavor is it?" he asked, still grinning.
"Chocolate," Toby chimed back.
"Ohhh..."
"But like dry chocolate."
"Hm." Dari looked at another and then popped it in his mouth. Chewing was weird. Swallowing was weird. Eating, as a whole, was weird.

"There's blue velvet too," Maia said. "I don't know what flavor that is," probably not chocolate, seeing as the cake itself was blue. "Oh, we can introduce you to chocolate cake! That's my favorite."

"That's the same cake, just blue," Toby said, turning over his shoulder to smile at Maia.
"Chocolate. Sure. I think I like chocolate." He thought so. Couldn't be sure. Everything was so new.

Huh. So in this case, color didn't mean a different flavor.
"Chocolate's my favorite," she confessed. "Do you have any other things you want to try right away?" she asked.

"Everything," Dari said, and with total seriousness. "I want to try everything I can whenever I can. I want to meet people. I want to do everything."
"Not everything, trust me," Lori teased, "We can help you there."
"Okay. Most things, then."

Maia knew that feeling. At least, the feeling of being entirely new and wanting to do everything. It hadn't been that long ago, really. "We can do anything you like," She smiled at him. He'd taught her to use a computer! She wasn't about to refuse. "We could go dancing, even."
