Nix the Carapace Armored Guardsmen. If you want Carapace armor in your Troops, you can just take Veteran squads.

Guardsmen really get amped with this new codex. Now we can actually have a chance at winning again!(lol, im not really a good player.... sweatdrop ) any tips on expanding my army?
1 command sqaud with vox and plasma guns
Carapace A
3 support squads-2 anti tank- 1 anti inf. lascannons and hvy bolters all have carapace and .sharp shooters.

2xplatoons
1 command squad 3 grenade L's,vox
3 squads, 1 Grenade L each, vox each
All have carapce and sharpshooters
1 chimera with douoble heavy bolters(my own crappy conversion)


this is about 1000-1200 points with current( i believe 3rd edition?)IG codex. not the new one coming out in (i beleive) may 2009. correct me if im wrong
Doctrines are out and gone. Heavy weapon support squads are no longer part of the HQ but must now be attached to infantry platoons instead.

Your current army, with upcoming codex revisions would weigh in at around 905 points, give or take. This is assuming your hq has two plasma guns.

As for expansion, tanks are good, there's a tank for every need soon, maybe an elites choice, again something for everybody in there or some Sentinels, always good to field some of those.

Platoon command: lieutenant with power fist, medic, platoon standard and meltagun

Squad 1 - flamer, missile launcher
Squad 2 - grenade launcher, missile launcher

Heavy weapons - 3x autocannon

Veterans squad - 2x grenade launcher, missile launcher

Sentinel - plasma cannon

How many points would this be?

GW has a battle force, Cadian infantry squad, Cadian command squad, Leman Russ and codex all together for £119.75.

You'd be better off at Maelstrom Games (in the UK!) where all things combined will cost you £103.19, saving you £16.56!

I'm back...

I have to say i liked the old battalion box sets better, while getting a command squad is nice the tank was by far better and a command squad is easy to make.

and a sentinel one really, come on GW give us like 3 if you take away the friggin leman russ.

But with the new box you can at least fill out your minimum army requirements if you feild the squads as veterans. It took my a damn long time to get my current command. And they were one of the last things I finished. Now you start with just enough.

This boxed set does have a better value, even with the increase in prices. At least this box will give me an instant troops and fast attack choice without the need to buy blisters or extra boxes of models. All I need now is an extra command box, a box of Cadians, Leman Russ kit plus a codex and I'm ready for a 750 points game. pirate
