"I want to go for a walk," Dari said, snuffling slightly. "Can we?" He looked to Toby.
"Of course we can," the werewolf replied. Lori pulled out his phone and said: "Wait, wait, let me take a picture!"
Dari smiled with no effort and Lori snapped the picture, then sent it to Luca. Of course it wouldn't go through now, but his phone would retain the message until it came back into the service area.

Maia took Toby's hand then. A walk? They'd probably end up outside the forest, they hadn't warned the council they'd be coming. "C'mon Seamus, you might get to see more of the forest," she beckoned the cat sidhe.

Toby stood tall and called into the forest: "AGENTS AIKLEY, CNIDARIA, AND YRAUDHEN COME FOR, UH. A WALK. IF ANYONE NEEDS ANYTHING, FEEL FREE TO APPROACH. Also... also Seamus."
"Heard!" a female voice inside echoed.
"There. All bases covered," Toby said with a little laugh. He hadn't been expecting anyone to respond. "They have to let us in anyway, we just wouldn't be able to fin the council area without a guide."
Dari was already off walking, touching and smelling everything he could. His range of vision was very hampered, but it didn't matter. He didn't have to see behind him when there were so many beautiful things just in front of him!

Maia shook her head at Toby. At least now they had permission to walk through. "It really is beautiful," she said, admiring the plant life happily.
Further in, a wisp appeared. Maybe the same one? They were identical, Maia couldn't tell. It zoomed around Dari, and then paused when it reached Seamus. It circled the cat sidhe and zoomed off.

Seamus watched the bright light shimmer by, and ten it zoomed away. He was gong to get it! He began to chase after the wisp.
"Seamus, no!" Lori called. He didn't want the cat sidhe getting lost or worse. It'd kill him if they lost Seamus to more malicious Unseelies. Along the same thought line Lori didn't want to destroy Dari's first experience as a human. Lori ran off after Seamus and then Toby after Lori.
"You'll both get lost!" Toby yelped, "Seamus, stop it."
But shiny, though!

The wisp stopped in front of Seamus, and flickered out. No sound, just gone.
Maia stayed with Dari, watching the two guys go after Seamus. She sighed, and went to Dari's side. "Well," she said, "That was unexpected."

Hey! Shiny! Shiny, where did you go?!
Lori sighed with relief. Maybe the wisp had just been saying 'hi' to a fellow mischievous spirit, then. "No chasing lights, Seamus," Lori said, picking the heavy cat sidhe up, "They'll get you lost and we'll never find you again, and then no more cake."
No more cake?! Seamus meowed an apology at Lori.
Toby stopped mid-stride and shook his head. Stupid cat.
Dari just looked to Maia, smiling. "I've seen stranger." For example, had she seen his hands? They had nails on them!

Maia took Dari's hand and smiled. "I'm glad it worked, Dari," she said. "I'm looking forward to baking with you." And now, maybe, he could taste things. Experience taste, instead of just texture. "Do you want to go out for dinner tonight?" she asked. "We could go somewhere nice, I don't think Toby would say no."

Dari continued walking while holding Maia's hand. He was once again the leader of the group.
"Sure. I think I can taste," he said, then smacked his mouth a couple of times, "At least I think that's what that is. I want to try everything." Toby jogged to catch up and Lori put Seamus back on the ground with another admonition.
Dari kept on, touching, feeling, seeing, smelling. He was overjoyed, and it showed in his eyes even though he only smiled softly.

"Wisp causing trouble?" Maia asked, when Toby caught up. She didn't release Dari's hand, but she did reach for Toby's with her free hand. "I was just telling Dari we could go out to dinner to celebrate," She said, smiling at the werewolf.

"Yeah, for sure!" Toby nodded, taking Maia's hand. He did have a snack for Dari out in the car, though, as long as Lori remembered it.
The group walked for a while, mostly in silence, and then Dari began to backtrack toward the car. His pace had picked up. It was hitting him finally. He was human. He felt and looked human. He'd be able to go out in public and not have to worry. He let go of the other two and threw his arms around Lori.
"Thank you," he said into the man's neck. Ah, he could smell him. Lori had a scent, and he could detect it. "Thank you so much."
"It was worth it," Lori rumbled back happily, having caught the young man, "You're welcome."
"Can we go back? I want to walk through the lobby."
Lori nodded and put Dari down. "Should we run back?"
"Yes," Dari said, nodding happily, "As far as I can. I've never sprinted before." He just couldn't. "We'll see if I can."
Toby nodded and then turned to Maia. "Want to join in?"

Running? She wasn't fast. After a moment of thought, though, she smiled. "Sure," she agreed. Dari had never been able to, never been able to play dance dance revolution, or to do any number of things. She didn't let go of Toby's hand. "Lori will win," she said, grinning at him. He ran regularly!

"You think so?" Toby asked, and then they were off. Toby kept pace with his lover and Dari, laughing, stumbled here and there just from the oddity of having leg bones and impact. Lori didn't sprint. He had no reason to show off. He just moved alongside Dari, and when they reached the car Dari threw his arms around him again and swung off the ground. Lori laughed and kissed his cheek.
"Okay, you. We have some presents for you," Lori said.
"Presents?" Dari asked.
"You remembered?" Toby asked.
"Of course."
Dari released Lori and waited while Lori pulled a little of artisan marshmallows and a hand mirror from the car. Reasonably, Dari took the mirror first. A look of shock crossed his face. Then the tears began again. This was him. This was him! He touched his features, soft, squishy, pink; he looked at himself from different angles and just stood there. God, he looked like Toby. He looked to the werewolf, laughed, gave a little sob, and threw his arms around Toby.

Maia scooped up Seamus when they reached the car, hugging the cat sidhe to her. She watched the three guys. "We get to go home soon, kitty," she said, scratching at the sidhe's ears. "I'll make you a board at the motel and we can do riddles, if you like." After going out to dinner. That'd be special for Dari, she was looking forward to that.
Hoping Dari would be one day able to experience taste had been the goal she'd set while learning to read. He'd said he'd wished he could, and it'd lit a fire beneath her.

A-ha! Of course the victorious runner got the pretty girl! Seamus allowed Maia to pick him up and bumped his face against hers. He was glad he had been able to come with them and, luckily, the rolled-up board had already come with them, which saved them some time of making one.
"Alright, alright, everybody in!" Lori said, pulling open the rear doors, "We have a lobby to walk through, a restaurant to crash..."
Dari let go of Toby after one nudge to the head similar to what Seamus had done to Maia and then grabbed the artisan marshmallows and crawled into the back seat. Toby took up shotgun.
