Most interesting . . . so are these digital copies, I assume? I might have to see if I can scrape up some sort of disposable income . . .

Yes, Humble Bundle is only digital distribution. The e-books are likely provided in a variety of formats for e-readers or your compy (most PDF readers can read e-reader files).

That doesn't really bother me, I just wanted to confirm. I used to enjoy using e-book versions of my textbooks since it made searching for a specific wording so much easier! xp Try slogging through dozens of chapters for that one paragraph to cite, and it gets really old quick.

Again, I do need to find some disposable income for that, but such is unlikely as I have two trips planned within the next three weeks. Heading to a ren faire for a "time travelers" weekend and then to my graduation a week after that. Needless to say penny-pinching is on full bore here.

Yeah, textbooks in digital format started becoming popular in my college the past few years. It's not a bad option, though not all vendors kept page numbers (and sometimes not even page sizes/content) consistent w/ the physical books. This proved troublesome when teachers sad to flip to specific pages, since physical is still the "official"/recommended option at my college.

Also, sometimes Humble Bundles come around again (often as a bonus addition to a later related bundle). Thus, if you miss this one but sign up for their newsletter, they may add the contents of this bundle to a later TF comic book bundle, perchance.

yeah, the whole standard/modern problem comes in all sorts of issues these days. Why should school be exempt? As for the link .. . yeah. Perhaps that will have to be a return to try and get later. I have several trips to worry about, and spending on comics is just not feasible for now.

Fair enough.

Ah, well. Still, a lot of interesting e-books come through, so it's something to potentially keep on your radar, just as I do w/ the games they offer.

certainly.

Saw Guardians of the Galaxy tonight, and it was rather good. Gotta say, I loved Rocket Raccoon, and of course . . . . I am Groot.

I've been hearing very good things about it, and a sequel has already been confirmed. Was Groot the tree guy?
PostPosted: Tue Aug 05, 2014 6:10 pm

Indeed he is. Groot is the arborial character, and it is described that as he developed, his vocabulary was all but ignored, so his ability to speak is limited to "I" and "am" and "Groot" in that exclusive order. The genetically engineered and bionically enhanced Rocket Raccoon seems to be the only one that completely understands him, but that does make him a great straight man. I feel that Groot was a bit of a cheat, since he would grow whatever was needed at the moment including a ladder, a badass, regrow limbs, firefly light-ish flowers that floated in air . . . but it was still fun.

I was actually quite happy to see the infinity stone actually look like an infinity stone. The tesseract was one, but was a big cube. I understand the Aether from Thor 2 was one, but was more like a reactionary liquid. This one was actually a small purple stone.

That's pretty funny, but it does make a good deal of sense for a serious character. Yeah, that he can conjure whatever he needs at the time isn't a huge surprise given how much I've heard about the film basically being "anything goes" (some reviewers use the term "irreverent") action.

So, infinity stones must be a pretty big deal if they're in multiple Marvel movies, huh?
PostPosted: Wed Aug 06, 2014 5:48 pm

I really didn't mind too much. Groot was a fun character that was not totally naive, but he had some really endearing moments. He actually saved the crew in the end by growing into a thick cage/ball of branches to shield them as the ship they were in crashed hard. The impact shattered him, and there was the whole "hero maybe dies" aspect. Rocket does pick up a single twig, and it appears that Groot will regenerate from that little bit. In the ending, that provided some quick laughs as mini-groot was dancing to music . . . but only when nobody was looking.

As for the infinity stones, they supposedly represent the ultimate control over a single aspect of existence. The point of them is that prior to the creation of this universe, these aspects existed, and now they are leftovers. These concentrated bits of material were made into more interesting forms. Holding one can destroy you with the sheer power of it. Mastering it makes you the unparalleled master of what the stone represents. For instance, in the Captain America movie and the Avengers movie the item was the Tesseract, a glowing white/blue cube. As it turns out, the cube is in fact the infinity stone of "Space." Mastering this cube will allow you to master the concept of where you and other things are in existence. All six can only safely be combined (as I understand it) in a large golden gauntlet. Having the gauntlet with all six gems makes the bearer omnipotent and able to literally do anything he or she even mildy imagines. Thus far three of the six gems have been revealed, and the gauntlet has been shown in Odin's treasure room.

Ah, so that's the part people have been hinting at but not spoiling.

I see, so shards of creation/reality, in a sense. Those things are terrifying. I know super heroes are special and all, but I'm amazed anybody can even know about them w/o ceasing to exist.

That, and normal people (not just humans but anybody it seems) cannot physically touch the stones without risking them destroying the person. In Guardians, it seems the stone is the stone of Power, and one girl grabbed it . . . only to catch on purple flames (the stone was purple) and literally explode like a bomb. The good guys do grab it, but three of them are touching each other to share the load for long enough to do any good. With half the gems/stones already revealed, buzz is forming about Avengers 3 . . . even though 2 doesn't come out till next year.

Not to say 2 doesn't look quite good thus far! Hulkbuster armor for Iron Man seems to be confirmed. That will be fun.

Oooh, I've seen them but not in color. Quite nice little things. Too bad I won't ever see them in person. sweatdrop

And I spent far too long on the comic book wiki... Ah well, now I know that Deadpool and Death are star-crossed lovers! xp

~

Wow, that's certainly one way to show how powerful an artifact is. So, are they going for an Infinity Gauntlet storyline (all the gems are united [I only know about this due to the wiki xd ])?

I assume Hulkbuster armor is good for fighting the Hulk?
