My mother today told me she wants an Apple laptop and an iPhone. Mostly because she does "need" a smartphone (though she showed interest in the Droid too) and seems to think that Apples are virus-proof. I can understand the former, but she's never actually gotten a virus on her current PC laptop (or any of her other past-computers), so I don't see her reasoning. Well, other than the fact that Apple likes to willingly participate in a campaign of disinformation.

Ugh.

Mac runs a strong propaganda campaign, they've managed to convince people that installing things on a PC is hard and that PCs get viruses all the time. It's never taken more than a few minutes to put anything onto my computer with the exception of replacing internal hardware. That's like, ten minutes.

Dead moment in the studio, decide to pick up back books with Catwoman in them, just to see what's going on.

Why is Maggie alive now? Why is she a psycho crazy nun trying to kill Selina? What the hell is going on here? It is a s**t awful time to be a Catwoman fan, and Gotham City Sirens is still just a downright bad book, regardless of stupid premiss. Why is R.E.B.E.L.S. so much fun and yet this book is so ******** bad? First Paul Dini, now this, is this book the kiss of death to good writing?
Tony Bedard, I am very disappointed in you. scream

I don't know what's so hard about writing three popular female comic book characters, but Gotham City Sirens is like where good ideas go to die.

Mac laptops are great, you can't go wrong with them. The new Intel ones have native support for a Windows partition. I don't dislike PCs per say, but Vista and Windows 7 are terrible ******** operating systems. I was a PC user for well over a year before I got my Mac and I'd never go back.

As for the iPhone, you probably already heard what I have to say about that in CD. The best hardware running the Android system is probably the HTC Incredible.

A sequel to Clash of the Titans has been green lit. Oh the humanity!

Vista had a lot of serious problems, but Windows 7 is a very good system. I'd take it over the mac OS any day, which has serious integration problems with scanners and printers. Snow Leopard has just been a nightmare. It loves to glitch the shut down if you have anything running at all, especially anything related to the scanner. It also loves to crash Photoshop when I'm pushing the memory. For a system popular amongst artists, once you're topping 20 layers and making big files, you have to worry about crashes. It's also takes its sweet a** time opening those files.

It's not a good OS to use if you have the intention of using outside brand hardware.

The only flaw with Windows 7 is that I can't jump upgrade, I'm going to have to get a cheap Vista disk, then upgrade from that. Or do a clean install, which I'm just not into doing.

This week has been a ********. Not only am I still going through the process of miscarrying, but my 14 year old sister shows up on my doorstep today without shoes and carrying the dog, saying something about cops coming to the house for mom. Then she calls me and tells me she's being arrested. She got fired from her non profit job about a month ago for "account error in 2006" (yeah, fishy since they get audited every year by LAW and she's worked there 4 years after the fact..). Ran around like crazy trying to calm Alicia, get this woman mom knows to loan her the 5,000 cash. Laywers might have been able to reduce the bond, but that would be Monday at the earliest and mom said she wouldn't have survived in there. She said "you'd be saving for a funeral, not bail" which is really disturbing coming from your own mother. confused She said the jail was overcrowded and they told her she'd have to sleep on the floor. We didn't eat supper until 830pm. Waited over at the county jail for HOURS while the woman with the bail money argued with the jail people. She finally handed over the cash, lectured Brian and I. Then we got to wait almost another 45 minutes before mom came out.

Got home and Alicia wasn't where she was supposed to be. She was walking up the middle of the street with a friend. I yelled at her and Alicia caused a giant scene. She was cursing and running her mouth to the neighbor about me "screaming at her" and "being mean". This friend of hers told her stepdad and mom that Brian and I were abusing her, so when Brian went to get Alicia, the stepdad came out and gave Brian "20 questions" and then before we left mom's house, they showed up trying to get Alicia to come to their house and spend the night.

Poor mom looks so depressed, understandably but.. ugh.. this situation is ridiculous. She keeps mentioning having to move in with us. We currently live in a small 2 bedroom duplex.

*sigh*

this week.. I swear

That sounds positively horrific. gonk I hope it all gets sorted out. Good luck to you.

Thanks 3nodding
She swears she doesn't know what she could have possibly done. My mom is not that kind of person and she lives a very simple lifestyle. She goes to court on July 12th. Right now, her lawyer is out of the country.. on vacation.. but their office is supposed to call her on Monday. Like I said, the situation seems very fishy to me.

Fishy in that the charges sound ridiculous or that you don't believe that's why she was arrested?
PostPosted: Fri Jun 25, 2010 8:07 pm

I saw the papers. They're accusing her of stealing 21,600 dollars. It's fishy because they only started this nonsense when her lawyer tried to get them to pay the vacation pay they owed her (about 11,000 ). Also fishy, is the fact that they dug back to 2006 to find this supposed error. It took them a week to even tell her WHY she was fired and she only found out the amount today at the jail. When she was fired, they went right to closed meeting, made her wait outside and didn't even tell her the reason or let her defend herself, talk or anything and the reason came in a letter in the mail. They violated a lot of statutes of the Sunshine law during the process, all of which mom has notated. The lawyer should find all this very interesting

Massive storm last night that I actually got caught in on the way home. Hard little slivers of rain, but at least I beat the hail. You couldn't even see across the street at its peak. Wake up this morning to find that:
- Storm has knocked 35W out of commission for repairs and cleanup. Possibly draining.
- Lyndale in the heart of Uptown? Flash flood.
- All the trains are down, repairs are being made.
- In order to repair the trains, they've closed off the bike trails.

So, if at any point in Minneapolis you wanted to get from Point A to Point B...good luck with that.

They had already planned on closing down 35W for repairs on some of the on-ramps, but I haven't heard if they can even do that now that it's been flooded out.

They'll probably be draining it. I don't know what they did for Lyndale, I think they drained that. It's been so hot I'm sure they've managed to get all the water back into the air, floating around where it belongs during a miserable, hateful summer.
