Lets face it, snowman. Shows aimed at kids have two purposes: entertain them for a half hour at a time, and sell merchandise. GL:A was highly entertaining, and had some superb writing. On that, nobody is doubting an iota. It was great for kids, it was great for adults, it was a really really good show. The problem is not anything even to do with the show. It has to do with the Green Lantern movie.

You see, the movie was so abysmal, so horrendous, that it is regarded as the worst kind of flop. Worse yet, the toys that accompanied the film were the ultimate shelfwarmers. Nobody bought them. Thus, when cartoon network went to stores and said "we have a new Green Lantern line, and want you to sell the toys in your stores," the companies chided how they couldn't move the GL stuff they've had for years. So, because they couldn't make money off the show, CN cancelled it after a single season, and that is a damned shame.

A very good point; execs don't care about the quality, just the ratings and/or sales.

Ah, I see now. Yeah, the GL movie seemed like it would be pretty awful (never saw it, myself), and, to no surprise, it flopped.

the GL movie is infamously horrid. That is sad, because the property presents the most versatility and the greatest challenge. When the power is only limited by your imagination . . . what do you do?

First Flight is an animated film of GL that is truly superb. I strongly suggest that to get a great feel for what GL should be.

True, there are so many applications for "hard light." That problem seems similar to the problem of authors trying to write a character more intelligent than themselves.

Sure, I'll check it out. While I am generally not a fan of comic books for a great many reasons, certain IPs do still interest me; GL is one of them.

Many of the animated GL representations lately have even had the comic icon Nathan Fillian doing the voice. He is quite good for that role. mrgreen

Ah, always nice when they can get consistent interpretations.

Indeed. Still, comics have lately been a crapshoot . . . some good, some bad, and no way to tell until it is too late.

This is true. That's why I stick with anime. They're often based on manga, so it is usually known how good the IP is before the anime begins.

I just can't seem to deviate from Sekirei . . . a heavily fanservice/ecchi show with a surprisingly good plotline.

*looks it up* Aside from the ecchi aspect, it seems like a decent "fight for me" tournament manga/anime. I will say, using a harem as a whole squad of battle partners is a pretty unique idea.

I feel like such an otaku . . . I've looked up the sekirei manga since I hear that season three won't happen on the anime, and yet cannot seem to find the time for a go at Game of Thrones. sweatdrop

I know I may be biased, but I find the great anime to be far more worthwhile than the greatest American shows, whether animated or real life. I also find this pattern hold on those that are nor the highest of each group. I have watched an enjoyed a good number o American shows, but it seems Anime understands better what it is trying to say and says it more clearly and profoundly.

I just feel that anime is more free to tackle complex subjects as both anime and manga are not limited to children's faire. The grandest special effects were not cheap and CGI was not really affordable until recently, so non-live production was not taken seriously despite the fact that it could do impossible things without danger or permits. In Japanese culture, the drawn medium was far more respected for a far broader audience. They have experience in the matter, making their animation far more refined.

This is true; anime does allow for more varied settings due to it being drawn yet possibly applicable to any age/gender.

I can assure that Humble Bundle is legitimate; I have bought their game bundles on many an occasion.
