You don't need to be over zealous of the Emperor to be a Space Marine, just have strong enough faith in Him to not turn against the Emperor with mind tricks, or promises of wealth, power, etc.
Take Uriel Ventris, he isn't over fanatical, and Pasanius is neither, yet one is a Captain, and one is a Vet. Sergeant.

True, but I've only just read the first book of space marines anyhow. But I'm also wondering what would be a good space marine chapter for him to come from. I'd rather it be one that already existed to save me droning on about the chapter, seeing as I know myself for writing enormous lengths of explanations when it would save much time just using an pre-made one.

Attempt White Scars or Iron Hands.
You hear basically nothing of them Chapters...

Acutally, probably will just scrap the idea, can't think of a decent existing chapter to base him in and I can't really work make up my own chapter regardless how many there are. But thanks anyways, it was very decent enough help.

Walrus, I'm of the firm opinion that any writing or special work done should be done with a custom chapter. Base them closely off of an existing chapter if you will, but don't put them in one. Leave that to the pros that have GW on their back to "check for accuracy."

Heck that only makes me feel more uncomfortable about doing it gonk , really might as well scrap it in that case

Don´t most chapters brainwash marines into the service?
I have a faint recall of hearing such fluff before about them,
might be miss-accurate thou....

Using a own chapter to write a story might be the best course,
then you don´t have to worry much about "pending the fluff".

Going by what I remember, mainly the stuff in Angels of Darkness, they get most, if not all, their candidates offa deathworlds. So it could be one that is civilized, yes, but there could be a possibility, like in the book, where the people they take are backwards and their only true contact with the outside world are visits from Marines wanting to recruit them.
Even if it was a civilized deathworld, there's the possibility that the whole environment being one of life and death, coupled with the constant spewings of His Holy Propaganda would turn most people into believers anyway. But, there are always exceptions to the rule, so it's always possible that someone believe differently and keep it secret.
Hell, if Cain is a Commissar, then there has to be a Marine version of him somewhere.

Each chapter has their own unique way of recruiting.

The Blood Angels have one or two worlds they recruit from. The people there live as nomads without much technology really. They gather up all the Aspirants and they put them through trials. Then, they take them from there if any are deemed worthy to join the blood of Sanguinus.

The Ultramarines have one or two worlds aswell, one of them being Calth. From the age of 6 I believe they take the youths and put them through their own type's of schools ect and train them and constantly weed them out until they become capable of being Astartes.

Some chapters force the aspirants to become scouts first, some have scouts as a different option to be, as opposed to being a Space Marine, you can just be a scout forever instead. Not that I think the person has any choice in what they become though.

Every chapter has unique workings, of how they recruit, what the recruits must do, and how the process works. All from fluff I've read of course.

From what I understand, all Space Marines must go through a time as Scouts before being trusted with power armor.

I remember, either in the 3rd edition book or the 3rd edition codex, there was a rough schedule of a Space Marine's day, and several hours of it was in worship to the Emperor.

*cough* Blood Claws *cough*

They are Woof initiates who skip the scout phase and become instant marines. Instead Scouts are the old and wizened grey wolves who have learned patience and tactics.

And those are the oddball exception to the rule, no?

Blood Ravens seem to have an accelerated class where a marine can have company command in his early thirties and be trained to use all weapons, all tanks and fly Thunderhawks as novice scouts. Yeah.. the DoW 2 novelization is a real improvement over the s**t that Goto shovelled. rolleyes
