High end play on MMOs is way more engaging than any other genre besides like bemani, no joke.
If you go watch some of the Territory Wars in Perfect World, or just go listen to the vents when it's happening, you'd understand why I'd say that.

...Huh?
The only way that's possible is via PvP, which doesn't really count because that's player-generated content and not game-generated content. You'll see spikes of activity regarding PvE bosses... but depending on the game, its pretty generic. Like... with WoW every single boss in the game has a set strategy to kill it, which is dispersed by various websites, which makes it stupidly easy with people who have a basic grasp of the game and good equipment.
As for PVP, like I said, it's really only as good as other people make it.

Either way, I won't be playing anything until I get rid of this disgusting netbook and get a nice desktop. Maybe I'll head out and cannibalize one someday; but I'm lazy.

You can't discredit a certain aspect of the game because it's different from the rest of the game. In most MMOs, high end play revolves around its PVP.
But even in games like FFXI, the highest end of play for PvE is very engaging for all people involved because them not being engaged guarantees a wipe.

You know what I can't stand about your avatar? I keep thinking you're jello, and that your opinion is valid. Annoying.
That being said, yes, a desktop is a wise investment if you're out to play games. Better performance, considerably cheaper, more reliable internet connections... the benefits go on and on.

Uhm, they actually have an add-on for WoW, now. It's called DBM, and it made raiding even easier. Each boss, has a strategy, yes. With DBM, it will basically tell you what you need to do, and what you're doing wrong. If you stand in a AoE attack, for example, it will tell you to get the hell out of it. It has each and every single one of their CDs on a list, and it will tell you how long before they can use it again. Made raiding a whole lot easier.

That's what I don't like about WoW, it's stupidly easy. I don't use addons because... I don't want everything about the game ruined for me. I like to do s**t my own way.
As for MMO interactivity... PvP doesn't count. If its something driven entirely by the players then it isn't a merit of the game.

PvE is entirely driven by players too, which is why in some games PvP end game can mean more than the PvE end game. I honestly don't see the point you're trying to make because development and strategies for both come from the player base.

Being good at PvP is far different then being good at PvE. Raiding and such is cake. If you know exactly what you're doing, and you're not carrying anyone through it. Well, it's common sense, and will fly by. Although, PvE can be rather difficult if you're doing new content, and have no clue what each boss is capable of. I hate doing new content, simply because I will have a huge repair bill afterward. And I don't like spending my gold.

Now... Being good at PvP on the other hand, is far different, and a lot more challenging. Tedious is the word I was looking for. Depending on what class you are, and of course the class you're fighting. I'm really basing all of this off of World of Warcraft, because that's basically the only MMO I have experience with. Haven't tried anything else, because it seemed like a even bigger waste of money.

They take two different mindsets and skills on the player, but it's pretty much the same for every MMO.
The best PVP player might not be the best PvE player, but in FFXI I generally found that the best PvP players were also among the best PvE players because it required a much deeper understanding of game mechanics.
Of course maybe I'm a little biased since I was one of the pioneers in the FFXI PvP community.
Neither is more difficult than the other though. Being able to grind mad efficiently and make mad bank in an MMO takes a tremendous amount of skill. I'd argue the economics part of it takes more skill than PvP.
In FFXI the equiv of raids might be a bit easier now than they were 5 years ago because the game's almost like 10 years old, but it does take just as much skill to be a mix-maxer, or I guess the WoW equiv would be something like a twink.
And then there's the whole political/social aspects to these games that people ignore when talking about skill. Perfect World is a really good game for those liking that part because of Territory Wars.

D: This is exactly what happened... Hael made many homosexual references toward Fiend, and Fiend responded with his classic catch phrase, that apparently is only used against Hael. "Not Funny!"
