Supplemental codex books were a weak concept that I'm glad they got rid of. Why? Just look at how the Space Wolves are faring. They use parts of the marine codex but it isn't as attuned as it should be. Thankfully GW has already killed off the DA, BT, Salamanders and BA lists by either giving them proper support or a full-fledged codex.

Space Wolf is an exception; it´s not a codex chapter to begin with. And Salamanders are in the Codex Space Marine with a different rules if you take their special character, different doctorines in the older marine codex.
For DA´s and BA´s the supplement system works. Why? Think of it as if it´s a Rhino: You have the main chassie (Codex Space Marine) and then you have the different variants of the main chassis (the supplements).
The BA & DA would be Razorback, simply because about 10-20% is different, while the rest is the space marines. The BT would be the Vindicator now a days and SW would be the Predator. It just goes with common sence that wolfs are not space marines, they are something much greater then that.
For them and BT the self-contained codex is a good thing, because they benefit from it alot for being much greater then normal space marines.
But for DA and BA, it´s just pointless to make them a self-contained aswell, because you can just make a supplement codex with the lines: how to play this codex with codex:SM.

Do you even play this game? a Rhino is a Rhino is a Rhino its it used by almost every space marine chapter (some dont even have vehicles a razorback is a rhino modified to give up some transport capability to give it a weapons platform on top a predator is a tank built on the rhino chassis the more you look at how different Space Marine Chapters are the more they stay the same. They dont all have entire sets of special equipment this would have cause the great crusade to be an utter and complete failure. The key amounts other things is compatibility. The difference between a Space Wolves Rhino and a Iron Hands Rhino? one has a wolf painted on and one has a hand Space Wolves have the Canus Helix, Blood Angels the Black Rage but inside a Space Marine is the same. It is Character Experience and personal courage that separate Logan Grimnar from the short toothed blood claw

Guys, what Asmondai was saying is that, while all of the Marines share the same core (like the Rhino Chassis), each of them is different and handles its supplements in different ways in varying levels of separation and divergence.

and I acknowledge that fact but. If Marines are Rhino then the difference would be more like adding a dozer blade than being a razorback

reading over pedro....I'd say get him into the thick of melee, or within 12" of your melee squads. +1 attack seems pretty huge to me. so I'd say yes, use the rhino to get him into the thick of it to make full use of his min-banner, and keep him and the squad he is using the bonus on mobile. I like the sounds of an assault squad, an honour guard squad, pedro, and assault termies charging, with +2 attack on the charge... Of course, I may have read that wrong.

I keep him with the bulk of your forces, 2 attack tactical marines annoy enemies to no end... and for over the top launch him in crusader with lightning claws assault termies and attach chaplain for more rerolls... :3

Starting a new subject if you don't mind. I've been planning on writing a 40k novel amidst my short stories and other two novels I'm currently doing. Thing is though that I do plan to revolve it around a spacemarine only just risen from the rank of a scout and the thing special about him as the main character, is that he has weak faith.
Yes unnatural for a space marine and would have probably have failed all the tests before he could ascend that far, but it's the idea I have in mind. I'm just going with that he somehow did and that the librarians and other such wise high rank spacemarines chose to keep him because of his they think it is something to do with the Emperor.
Thing is though I don't know too much about the space marines and I'm wondering how much he could get away with before one of fanatical faithful spacemarines decided just to put a bolter in him?
I'm only thinking of the idea overall, haven't decided to stick with it. Just that I'd well enjoy achieving getting atleast published by the Black library some point in my life and I think one that revolves around the space marines would be a nice way to start.
