I'm game for grammar not having point violations at all unless it's significantly impacting the fight, but I want them pointed out and a bunch, every time.

And I dunno, it's probably a personal thing, I don't feel like anything I do is that exceptional. It's "alright." Tolerable. So I expect others to perform on my level or they're not "really" trying. But in this case, I feel a little justified because again, a majority of those making little mistakes aren't suffering from Dyslexia, didn't originate from another non-English speaking country, etc.

They had equal, no probably better access to educational facilities as I did given all the years I got ******** out of due to constant home drama and moving, and then tell me they're trying their best when they can't do the online equivalent of dotting their i's because they're lazy ********. It takes no more effort.

That I don't like. And that's why I'm pro-it being pointed out. I can acknowledge that it shouldn't be the sole factor in winning or losing however, but note that it does encourage people checking their posts.

Usually, people don't write too much here per post. I don't focus on length, but some people write a couple paragraphs, sometimes six or seven? That isn't hard to proof read before you hit the Submit button. It just isn't.

And with nearly every browser having built-in Spell Check now, it's really not too difficult. Most s**t can be caught in one read through, and I re-read my posts 27x because I'm obsessive.

I think we'll just have to wait and see until someone loses a fight by a grammar call before we can really say much about it though.

That totally isn't funny, Hael.

Bear is your nickname?

*wrinkles nose cutely* There are only two reasons that folks around here call a man 'bear'. One is because he is just that big, and second is because he is very hairy.

Mr. Fist: It isn't performing at your level though when you pass judgement like that... it's demanding conformity to your expectations at the expense of their personal style of writing, and ignoring the moves that they make.

In the end, this is a fight. A punch is still a punch, and a weapon used still has to be countered. Doubt anyone would say... "Mmm, you didn't just slice my finger off because you forgot to describe how pretty your eyes were in relationship to the sun, and the cosmic goings on in my head about whoever I want to sleep with when this is all over.. and oh yeah, what about that sword?"

Flutter: My nickname is Bear. Its because I have an epic beard and HAD dreadlocks.

And I'm short with big shoulders, so I look sort of bear like I guess.

Ask my friends. XD

With all due respect, nonsense. I never ignore someone's moves based on their writing unless I literally cannot decipher what the hell they're saying (and then I ask them), and if someone's style was defined by spelling errors, I'd be very confused and damn near disturbed how.

I don't know which "Bear" you were talking about. But, the only reason that is my nickname, is because my girlfriend decided on it. I'm not "big", or extremely "hairy".

Maybe you're just weird. Ever think of that one, hunh!?

Mr. Fist: Then why not focus on making suggestions on the moves, or how to improve their chances of winning next time... instead of focusing on grammar? I'm not understanding your passion for this point in this discussion.

It doesn't help that person in anyway other than becoming aesthetically pleasing for you personally. Which is kinda selfish, no?

Kahu: Yeah, I know I'm weird. I was talking to Fiendish though.

Fiendish: I would like to see a picture of you with your dreads, if you care to share. Did you do your beard up in them too?
PostPosted: Fri Jun 25, 2010 4:19 pm

Flutter: Sadly you cannot, for I have no pictures of myself at all. The last picture I took was when I was fifteen, when I just got the idea to grow them.

I have a giant purple mo hawk and beard now.

And no, I did not dread my beard. It was more like the beard Leonidas from 300 had then a long a** one.

I tend to. For example, when Austin drowned his ogre, I told him "Hey, don't do that." He didn't take my advice and proceeded to die two years farther. You can't teach some people.. [Sighs.]

But I'm saying I don't feel proper grammar and spelling is of aesthetic value to me as much as a measure of effort for most people. And not much of one at that.

Grading grammar and giving people advice on the really obvious mistakes is about more than aesthetics. It helps strengthen their control over the language and puts them at a great advantage on and offline against the competition.

I mean, think of it like this. If you were reading an application and you had a guy who wrote

"i went threw you're backyard than i the funnest time. i hope you like my back round check."

Would you really be willing to give them a shot?

I really don't get how people can place so little value on writing in a place where writing is the only means of communication.

I don't feel inspired to put an effort into something, and someone who isn't willing to meet me at least halfway. *shrugs* Which is probably why I like to read some fights, but I know I would make a lousy fighting partner, since if I'm not into it.. then I can't get into it, since I can find other things to entertain myself with that are more rewarding for the time I actually have to spend.

God, you sound like my dad Mr. Fist. A person who chooses to listen to your advice, but does something else isn't actually ignoring you. They are making their own choices. Do you give up on them because of it? No, you wait until they are READY to take the advice you have to offer. Then it's a better investment of your time and energy.

And less frustrating all around.

Fiendish: You know, I think that Griff might be able to give you a run for your money in the whole massive beard department.

The teams of people that I work with consist of all sorts of individuals at different skill sets.

So my response would be... who the ******** cares how they write, as long as they can get their point across... because they are on your team no matter what, and you have to make the best out of what you are given.

You are all playing the same game. Everyone here is in the same tournament. Albeit for different reasons.

I admire your noble aspirations though. I don't have the dedication or patience for it, but it's nice to know that there are people in Gaia who do.

Kudos.

I think it should be pointed out. That helps with the whole improvement thing. I just don't think someone should be penalized unless the mistakes are actually detrimental to the fight itself. Otherwise those mistakes are just trivial.

But yeah, we'll just have to wait until the results come out to see how much grammar/spelling played a part in any given loss/win.

Though, it definitely doesn't help when a judge enters the OOC just to make a post about how they're gonna make last minute grammar checks for any mistakes they missed the first time.

Flutter: He could, I've seen his.

He could never match my back length blonde dreads though.

I will probably grow them back one day.

My beard is blonde, though. So I instant win.
