Yeah, in a ten minute scenario. How long did that post actually take me to write and post?

INCLUDING the time it took me to read it, by comparing the post before its timestamp to mine? Not including the ones separated by hours or me just not seeing them in time, I'm pretty sure all of my posts come within 20-25 minutes regardless of content.

Like I said, it's easy. Anyone can do it.

If someone misplaces a comma because they aren't aware of a Grammar rule, then they'll misplace it again, and again, and again. That isn't something you penalize, not if you want to be a good judge anyways. It's superficial. The misuse doesn't take away from the post. It doesn't make it any less clear.

You can't expect everyone to have scholar-level English in here. It's not going to happen ever.

Of course, if someone forgets the existence of punctuation and you're staring at a 3-paragraph run-on. Then, please, be my guest. But if someone doesn't know a particular grammar rule. It doesn't matter if they proof-read their post a thousand times. They won't correct the mistake because they don't know they've made one.

There's a plethora of more important things a judge should be looking for in someone's posts. But no. When some judges enter the OOC, they usually exclusively talk about the points they deducted or the points they plan on deducting for grammar/spelling mistakes.

It's like they're hunting for these irrelevant mistakes that mean d**k to the actual fight. Obviously, I won't know to what degree they're deducting points on grammar until the results come out, but that's how I feel from the posts I've been reading.

XD And playing for fun is fun for all of us. I like that better...

This is usually just something that I've learned is impossible for some of us to ever reconcile. The only reason some of us here is because it is a competitive event. If it weren't, we'd just stay with our cliques and play for fun with out the headaches. I mean, I can understand how having someone who might be a bit more competitive about this and getting a drive from pushing as hard as they possibly can to win might not seem fun for you, but yeah, that isn't why we're here.

We're queer, we're here, so deal with it.

I agree with you which is why I suggest that for a point deduction on the basis of grammar a comment should come with it explaining the specific grammar rule in question.

If they didn't know then they should know for the future. I don't think judges should simply write out you guys suck, and I've only had a few judges ever do that. And for hunting for mistakes, that's pretty dumb too. Like I said already for myself, I didn't get the difference between worse and worst until I got a lower grade for doing it over and over and finally had it explained to me. Stuck with me ever since. I think the good point of a grammar judging section is because it allows a chance for writers to get advice on structure that could help them here and in the real world. If it's going to be used like that? We'll see.

The problem with leaving it out is that even though a judge can still comment on grammar with out it being in the grading rubric and offer general advice, the likelihood of that happening might be lower. Judges already complain about their work loads in nearly every event I've been in that's required judges, so the chances of them putting forth the extra effort might be pretty slim.

There are a lot of women here that could beat you into a virtual bloody pulp before you'd realize that you'd been owned.

No offense intended, they are just that good because they have to be a bit better than the men in order to be able to compete.

Different expectations and all that nonsense.

There's also the chance that the fighter in question is also learning the language.

Not my problem. The fighter in question better learn the Language. [Superior glare.]

Quote:
Or that the fighter in question is younger and isn't on the same writing level as other people.

Bullshit. I wrote better than not just a few 19 year olds I see here today when I was 13. Not a valid excuse.

Or if they've got dyslexia.

Can be overcame. A friend of mine has it, and he writes far better than I do. Not an excuse.

Quote:
They can be a decent RP fighter, but because they misuse a comma a few times or they use the incorrect form of "there" they're ostracized.

Pay attention. Not an excuse!

Quote:
I'm pretty sure that people are getting deducted .1s for spelling errors and grammar rules that they may or may not know. And if anyone ever seen how point-base judgements go. Someone can definitely lose by a .1.

And why?

We want people to spend more than 2 minutes writing their posts when they get around to it?

I'm sorry, complaining over how well formed writing is in a competition solely created in writing is silly. Don't want to lose by .1 over spelling? Stop misspelling things.

WEEWOOWEE.

Neither you or your friend are relevent to the difficulties of, and I want this to be clear between the two of us, OTHER people.

I'm not even saying that we should ignore whether someone writes well or not, but rather that people shouldn't be penalized for the dumbest s**t. The grammar/spelling card should only come in once the post is deemed illegible because of the mistakes. Not because someone used your instead of you're.

Naota: Seems to be a bit of a cop out to penalize for grammar, while not giving credit to the moves or counters that are made, yeah? This is a fighting tournament, as long as it can be read and understood, then the post is legitimate.

Judging can't be easy though, so really this is just my two cents that aren't really worth anything.

It's not really fun unless you win
False.

That means you're in it for the wrong reasons. If you don't have fun just roleplaying your own created character against a decent writer and their created character, then you're obviously on the wrong website.

You should enjoy yourself regardless of winning or losing; that's kind of what the base of roleplaying is.

What? No.

You're and your are fine things to criticize someone on. Those types of things are very basic and people should know them if they're in or have passed highschool. Just like you learn don't means do not when you're a kid, you're means you are. This is very simple.

What I'd be objecting against is criticism regarding grammar itself. Proper sentence structure is something that eludes many people, including celebrated authors. Many authors write in their own "style" which is why they are praised. I, myself, typically write the way I talk... so when I write an OOC post like this one there are many grammatical errors if you look closely enough.

That being said, none of the Judges in this tournament write well enough that they should be nitpicking over those sorts of things. If you end up taking a book off the shelf in order to pull apart posts then you should be dismissed from judging. Judge only within the confines of your personal ability - don't hold people to higher standards than you can match.

I mean, I prefer to capitalize the beginning of things even when they shouldn't be. ( Although we should capitalize names unless the person is inferior and not worth it. ) So when I write a post, I'll write something like,

"Hey." He said.

Instead of like,

"Hey," he said.

Or whatever is actually "correct". Why? Because I don't care. I'm not paid enough to write this s**t any better than I do, and I don't have a paid editor to fix it for me. D<

Why so serious?
I just don't give a s**t so long as the respect is mutual, sexism is for idiots who are so weak that they have to pick on the other fricken gender to feel confident..

And why not? I'm not claiming I or he are magical exceptions, I'm claiming we both have made our respective efforts to not falter in those areas.

What makes this impossible for others? I'm curious.

The grammar card should come in at all times, but it should be worth a significantly small portion of the grading. For reasons already given.

You know what really makes me facepalm?

When grammar nazis are proud of themselves and refer to themselves as such for calling someone on spelling.

SPELLING AND GRAMMAR ARE NOT THE SAME THING. SPELLING IS SPELLING. THAT'S WHY IT'S CALLED SPELLING & GRAMMAR NOT SPELLING AND SPELLING.

...posers.
