Hmmmm . . . I might have to give that a go. I am often awake late at night with nothing really to do. A new weekly video might be nice.

Sorry for the radio silence. I was out really late Saturday, and Sunday was a busy day for me as well.

Yeah, if you like people like Yahtzee and MovieBob, I'm sure you'll like Doug. Do note that his style of reviewing has changed through the years. His older reviews are a standard of him commenting on clips of the movie. His newer reviews are longer productions where he really dives into the parody or a movie w/ skits. I can't guarantee you'll like both styles, but you should like at least 1.

Not a problem. Our daily comments are enjoyed, but I know better than most that life gets in the way. For instance, I am kinda bummed from job searching denials today. crying

I know that feeling; I've gotten a few myself. I'm sure I'd do fine if I could find a job whose requirements matched my skill set better.

So . . . evidently I am still unhirable unless I am licensed. Psychology won't license me unless I have a doctorate, and the counseling side considers my current level. For licensure, I need to have done both internship for 600 hours, and practicum for 100. Additionally, if one's highest degree is a Master's (like me), he/she is eligable for license when one has accrued three years of experience (3,600 hours). Such must be done between 30 and 40 hours a week in the same setting for at least a three month period, and can include various sites. I have two to six years to create the 3,600 hour minimum.

So, I didn't take practicum in school, so I am screwed. I cannot get a job without the license, and can't get the license without years of experience. So I'm screwed. FML right now. I just want a better job than delivering pizzas! I worked hard for years upon years and have the grades to prove not only do I know what I am doing, but I am stellar at it!!! Instead, I'm stuck doing less-than-minimum wage jobs because I can't get anything better

*hugs* Oh my, I'm so sorry about all of that. Did your school not provide an adviser to warn you of such things in advance? I'm going to keep up hope that there is still a way for you to get a better job and/or get a doctorate.

I was warned that licensure might require me to take the practicum, but I couldn't afford it. I couldn't afford to go ~somewhere~ for six months or so and abandon my family without my portion of financial support. I thought I was clever, but now I wonder. Getting my doctorate is already in motion- I start on September 8th. It's getting a better job than delivering pizzas that is proving difficult.

It's s shame they're inflexible like that. Medical school is more accommodating, honestly.

Oh, I'm glad it's not barring your ability to get your doctorate. If worst comes to worst, you could try your hand at teaching the subject, at least temporarily. I know teaching it isn't the same as experience in the field itself, but it might count for something. Once you have a doctorate, you should be qualified to teach at any university for any level of psych degree.

That is actually something my wife is pushing for. I don't know if I will ever have my own practice . . . but all I really want to do is help people. As a counselor, a teacher, something. I don't care. I just wanna be a healer.

Oh, if you're actually open to the idea of teaching, I think that could be the best route you have available to you right now given your circumstances.

I've considered working as a counselor or a teacher in a school . . . but teaching requires a degree in Educational Psychology, I think. I'm going for something a bit broader. I'd be happy working as an admissions counselor or career counselor. Perhaps they'd let me teach with a human behavior degree, but time will tell.

Those are all good avenues, to be sure. So, are you looking toward one of those jobs in the near future or is that a little ways off for you?

Given my choice, I would have my foot in the door now. I have a massive GPA and a Master's degree . . . and I will be delivering pizzas for the forseeable future. crying
