"You said that the metal is unknown, how could that be possible? I am fairly certain that he is not an alien, even if he isn't human..." Grace frowned again as her eyes tried to trace all the little metallic lines that ran through the chest cavity. "Trying to replicate the prosthesis on a human would result in certain death.. and even on a Meta-Human or one of the elder races I am not sure they would survive... what makes it run... I bet it isn't nuclear.."
***
'Andi turned her head to the side slightly, half listening to the murmur of the radiologist and Grace but more interested in what John was mumbling as she dropped him down another power level once more. "Grace... turn on the overheads, and get me another blanket.. I do not want him slipping into a coma from shock."
He was afraid of the dark... she had lived in darkness for a very long time. Darkness and light no longer had any real meaning to her beyond the slight hum of the electricity or the warmth of the sun or flames on her skin. "It is not dark where you are, no shadow is left untended for long lest it hide some speck of dust or a germ molecule... besides, I think the reaper would much rather take my head than yours.. I'm the one who just can't pretend to be mortal anymore.. and as Grace tells me, I have a horrible habit of meddling. I just have a vision of the future in my head, and I refuse to let it all slip away."
***
Grace glanced up from the lab results at the sound of Andi's voice, before she looked back to the charts and the film. "The blood alcohol could easily be a false positive with how low his glucose level is, it happens with diabetics all the ti... damn, Unknown blood type? That is just down right aggravating. The sodium levels.. that is how he is so damn conductive. I wonder how much he managed to drink before we got there.. I saw him down a couple of shots, but it should not have been enough to call for this reading."
She turned and rummaged through a supply cabinet for a saline bag as she muttered to herself, gesturing to the lab tech to hit the lights on her way out and sending a glare to the radiologist that clearly indicated he needed to find a blanket right away.. even if he had to run upstairs and steal one off a bed.
"I want to try flushing his system, see if it helps any to get him closer to human levels.. I wish I had a proper patient history for him, flying blind is not my style." She told Andi and she bustled into the room and started to hook up the new bag next to the morphine drip that Tomorrow was already on.
"Really? I never have any problems with it.. but then again, I don't fly too often these days." Verandi grinned impishly towards Grace as she kept a firm grip on John's hand and a steady pull at his power, never taking too much, but just bleeding off what his system was building up.

Dr. Sarona "I wish I had a proper patient history for him, flying blind is not my style." "Well, thats why they pay you the big bucks..." The radiologist said, his voice a bit piqued as he handed her a blanket. He was a bit irritated that the woman thought she could come into his department and boss him around. "Well....her at least." He muttered beneath his breath, shooting a look to Verandi for a second before walking out of the room to get back to his charts. "If i may..." The nurse said, approaching from the doorway. "His arm fell off on the way here...but there's no way it seems to connect to it. No rod or slot like a typical prosthesis. He's an electrical elemental...maybe its connected like an electro magnet?"She nodded to him as she helped Dr. Sarno fix the saline bag. "Maybe when he's drained of power it...shuts down?"On the bed, John stirred suddenly, opening his eyes slightly, the bloodied eyes scanning the ceiling, his vision blurry and pained. He was unable to see properly, due to the damage to his eyes, plus the floods were blinding him...this made him relax again, and his eyes closed again.

"I can tell you a lot of his history, although I am not a hematologist... that sort of thing requires keen eyes." She smiled a bit sadly but didn't linger on what she had given up so very long ago. "The arm was lost quite a few years back, and before that he was a fighter of sorts." Andi set John's hand back on his chest as he relaxed.
"A giant electromagnet? Plausible... quite plausible with his elemental connection. And it would have to be keyed to a metal that is not common, or he would go around picking up loose nails, screws and other such things all the time!" Grace gently peeled one of John's eyes open again frowning at it's bloodshot state as she applied a tiny bit of healing power to sooth them, careful not to affect anything but his eyes. She then turned and made a thin bandage, wetting it down and covering over his eyes and forehead, not enough to shut out the light only enough to keep him from damaging his sight if he should open his eyes again. "I need him to wake up Vera, I can remove the bullet and heal the damage done to the brain, but not without his consent!"
"Yes, he definitely needs to wake up soon. Bring him back upstairs, I will meet you in your office... I need you to read me the reports, or get someone to reprint them in braille for me." She unhooked her little machine and tucked it back in her pocket before taking her cane and tapping her way back out past the disgruntled radiologist, smiling sweetly at him. "Actually, I get paid the 'big bucks' because I blackmailed the owner of the hospital and kidnapped his only daughter. Elves are real easy to blackmail when you have just the right dirt on them!"

Several hours passed.
John lay motionless, cords coming out of his arms, his body covered with a sheet up to his waist. He was sleeping peacefully, his face expressionless as he lay under the comforting lights beaming down on him, his face still covered with the cloth, now dry.
A nurse came into the room, peering around the door before walking in.
Quietly she changed the bandage on his hand, changed the saline bag and morphine drip, before remoisting the cloth for his eyes, laying it onto his face gently. She quickly checked his vitals before leaving the room, turning off the light and pulling the door shut as she did.
John lay motionless in the dark.
His face was covered by the cloth when his eyes opened slowly...to see darkness.
Immediantly his eyes flew open, his chest heaving as he drew in a painful breath. His hand reached out, ripping the cloth from his face as he tried to sit up - before he fell back, gripping his forehead.
Where was he? He wasn't protected!
"Help..." he croaked. His throat felt like someone had poured sand down it. "Help..."

Verandi fumbled for the light switch, cursing every ill will god she could think of that they hadn't installed clappers in the damn place. "Calm Thor.. please be calm!"
She managed to find the light switch, the hum of the halogens letting her know she found the right switch before she stumbled her way across the room, glad that he had a private room... so he could only fry the electronics and not some poor fool who happened to be there by circumstance.

As soon as the light came on, John squinted but fell back into the bed. He felt exhausted, drained even...but he was safe.
Safe from the dark at least. He peered around the room, trying to take in his surroundings. A hospital...
"Where am I?" he rasped, lowering his head back to the pillow. His vision was blurry to the light, but they didn't hurt...it was like his eyeballs were learning to see all over again...

'Andi banged her knee on a rolling table and cursed the imp of misfortune seven times over in her head for forgetting her damn cane at the nurses station, although she did relax a bit as John kept from trying to electrocute the block, she would have to chew out the nurses for turning off the damn lights when she had left specific orders to leave them on. "You are at a hospital in the town of Latent.. you collapsed at a bar last night Mr. Tomorrow."
"Could you perchance tell me what you last remember?" At last she touched the bed and relaxed enough to dig through her pocket for her PDA, punching in the speed dial code for Grace's pager.

At last she touched the bed and relaxed enough to dig through her pocket for her PDA, punching in the speed dial code for Grace's pager. John watched the blind lady approach slowly with interest, his eye sight beginning to clear. She was a pretty women, and he felt a mite of pity for her. She was clearly a doctor, and as she reached the bed he answered. "I'd started having dinner with friends...we had a disagreement and they left...i think I had a panic attack after that...dont know much else after that..."He rubbed his throat with his hand. His voice was raspy as he tried to sit up, woozily shifting his legs over the side of the bed, almost yanking his IV clear over the bed as he did. "Excuse me...i need water..."He tried to stand, but his legs felt like wet noodles, and he flopped back onto the bed, the blanket strewn around his waist as he gasped on the bed like a beached whale. Where had his strength gone?

Tomorrow He rubbed his throat with his hand. Verandi frowned and gently pushed him back in the bed. " Sit still! I will get you a glass of water. " She would have rolled her eyes if that would have done her any good, instead she turned and carefully paced her way across the small room to the little bathroom, showing that even though she was blind she was capable of getting around.. at least when she wasn't worried over a meta-human melt-down xp " A panic attack? Is that a regular occurrence, or something new for you?" She turned on the tap, easily finding the nice paper cup holder stuck to the wall and filling it two thirds of the way before she turned and counted her steps back across the room to hold out the water towards the big man.

"I...I've just come back from being abroad. Did some things I'm...well...i guess you could call it PTSD if you wanted, but..." He paused as she came back with the water, accepting it gratefully, but limiting himself to sipping it, trying to moiston his parched throat. "...I'm not going to get into it with a stranger, doctor or no..."
His head felt about two sizes too big, but it was a numb feeling. He didn't know whether he wanted to vomit or pass out.

"Alright, we can postpone that conversation for now if you like. "Her smile had that slightly condescending hint to it again, the touch of a smirk that promised it would not be too long before they got around to talking that all out!
"Do you remember my companion? Tall, frizzy red hair, pointy ears... rather bossy disposition?" She lightly sat on the side of the bed as she described Grace in the least flattering terms she could think up. "Well she is outside of the room at the moment, and I didn't want you to get jumpy when she came barreling in and starts to get all bossy again!"
"She needs to ask you a bunch of annoying medical questions, and suggest some rather dangerous procedures to get you up and walking again... without the worry of another meltdown like the one that killed your friends."
There was a tap at the door, and it was only a moment before it was pushed open to admit the taller, motherly looking woman.

"Tell me who you are and what I'm doing here or I'll tear this god-damn place down."He was bluffing damn hard. He couldnt pass wind without passing out at the moment...

"I am Verandi.. I am Fate!" She raised both her empty hands, smiling sweetly, nonthreatening and yet ever so dreadful if he understood that simple statement.
Grace stood in the doorway her gray-green eyes wide, frozen for the moment as she waited for the giant of a man to try the vain, to fight Fate when she had been revealed to him...

Grace stood in the doorway her gray-green eyes wide, frozen for the moment as she waited for the giant of a man to try the vain, to fight Fate when she had been revealed to him... John looked at the woman like she had just announced she was the prince of space. He seriously didn't have the strength to deal with crazy people. "I guess you're...what? Serendipity? He asked Dr. Sarona dryly, lying back onto the bed with a heavy sigh. If they wanted something from him, they'd gotten it. If they wanted him to remember something, well...stiff s**t, Jim would say... He looked down at his hand, and the tubes coming out of his arm, rubbing his eyes to hide the tear which had suddenly appeared.

Grace crossed her arms over her chest and frowned at that last comment. "No, I am Dr. Grace Sarona..." If his sense of humor was coming back then she thought it was safe to get a little closer.
She briskly crossed the room to the bathroom and filled a jug full of water before she came back to the bed, moving the table that Andi had tripped on earlier and refilling the paper cup that John had been given, placing both within reach of his good hand, before she turned and started checking his vitals on the monitor. "Just ignore Andi if she starts to bother you, I always do.. she likes to make a collosal pain in the a** out of herself and her annoying ability to find the one thing you don't want to hear and start shoving it in your face! That is all "fate" really is... some horrible concept that people came up with for all the crap that happens in your life that you didn't ask for!"
Verandi frowned and crossed her arms over her chest, looking a bit put out. "I didn't come up with the idea... you don't have to make it sound like something gross stuck to your shoe! This is what comes of people born in the last decade, no belief in anything they can't see!"
