"How shall we...move him?" the queen asked.
"Oh, he can move himself," Toby reassured her without really thinking, and then added "Your Majesty." The queen smiled.
"If you deliver the crystal to Eron. Find Halvar and have him lead you to your quarters for the night. He will keep me informed on your progress," she said, and then stood. Lori stood with her and bowed deeply. He thanked her in Old Fae. Toby stood and bowed as well. Dari blew a couple of bubble that just remained within him a few moments before bursting.

It was some time later when the group sat in their bunk. It was fair enough size for three of them, but a rather large blob on the floor made things difficult. Toby decided to not try and move Dari for the sake of his embarrassment, knowing he wouldn't be able to heft the dead weight, and simply sat as he ate the bread and stew provided.
Dari was currently working on creating lungs and vocal chords, not to mention teeth, a tongue, and a mouth. His teeth and eyes had liquefied but he had been able to reabsorb them at least.
"What'll you do if you turn out to be a lady, hm?" Toby teased. He imagined Dari shrugging. Why would he care? He smiled as he saw a tooth begin to form. "Ah, this brings be back. You were much smaller then." Really it was easier now to remember that every body part was the same for Dari. "You can feel me up if you need."
Lori was just laying on one of the pallets, staring at the ceiling. He felt so drained. It was worth it if it had worked, of course, but magic transfer was a b***h. He was starting to drift off.

Maia wasn't touching the meal provided, she was still worried for Dari. She watched the blob on the floor silently. "He's really okay?" She asked, looking at Toby. He'd be the same as ever, wouldn't he?
She moved from her spot, and put a blanket over Lori. "You should get some rest," she said. "Luca'll have all our heads if you don't."

Toby nodded. "Yup. This is how he started at HQ. See that?" He bent down and pointed to the sprouting tooth. "He's working on his voice first, so we can talk. I mean, we could probably do 'yes' and 'nos' now. Two means yes, remember."
Lori groaned and rolled onto his side. "Wake me up if you need me," he said, and fell asleep shortly thinking of Luca.
"Do you feel any different?" Toby asked. Two bubbles formed at once and rose to the surface, lingered, then burst. "See? He's good."

"How long will it take before he's back to normal?" Maia asked, still concerned. "You had me worried, Dari." When he was fully formed, she was going to hug him. "Do you need anything to eat?" she remembered Dari saying he'd needed to eat a lot to become fully formed--was it true now, too?

Dari blew one bubble at Maia.
"I'm not completely sure," Toby admitted. "It could be a few hours. It could be a few days. It'll be easier for him to tell you in a bit." Did Dari ever fatigue from forming? "You had us worried there for a second, Dari. More than a second."

A few days? That was concerning. They wouldn't know if it'd worked for that long? Maia sat back next to Toby. "We thought you were dead," she added, looking back to the blob. "Try to avoid doing that again."

There came two bubbles halfway through the second statement. Toby wasn't sure if that meant 'yes' or 'sorry.' Maybe both? He turned and brushed Maia's hair behind her ear.
"I thought we'd bring him to Breyer to try it out? When it's done." The ring, of course.

"We should," Maia agreed. "And when it works, we'll do something extra special," she said, looking to the Dari-blob. They'd almost lost their best friend. "We'll make that cake you wanted to do." They'd do all sorts of things, whatever Dari wanted to do.

Dari, probably bored and frustrated in forming, blew a line of bubbles down the back arch of his top-end and let them pop one by one in the order they had appeared.
"I think that means he's happy."
Dari blew a spiral of bubbles.

"I think that means he'd rather be playing Skyrim," Maia said, grinning at Toby. She watched the bubbles. "Do you think Seamus will be alright back at the hotel?" she asked.

"Oh, yeah. He might even raid the pantry if we're gone too long," Toby said, shaking his head. Besides, cat sidhe didn't really need to eat anything at all. He was sure Seamus would put up some sort of protest, though.
Bubbled roiled in Dari's bottom for a while, and then rose in the shape of a simplified cat head.
"Hah! Nice one!" They used to only be able to communicate like this.

"He probably will," Maia shook her head. The cat loved food, especially people food. "He'll miss us," she said.
She looked over to Dari in time to see the cat head. "We can explain when we get back," she said. "I bet he'll be excited to see us."

"We should take him to Breyer," Toby suggested. He wouldn't even need a leash in there.
After a while longer, the couple slept, Maia wrapped in Toby's arms. When Toby opened his eyes he saw a partial Dari sitting on the floor. He had a head and mouth, arms and basic fingers, legs and a bum and basic toes. His bones had gone back into place.
"Hey," Toby said sleepily, "Hey, I see you."
Dari smiled. "I need you for the rest of my features."
"Been too long, eh?"
Dari nodded. By features he meant the useless accompaniment like ears and a nose and finger and toe nails. He had no use for them but they made him look more presentable to humanity.
"How are you feeling?" Toby asked, then nudged Maia, "Wake up, love." He couldn't move until she did.
"Fine now," Dari replied.
Lori was gone from the room.

"Mmm?" Maia opened an eye. "Morning," she mumbled, and sat up. "Dari, good morning," she said, brightening. "How are you feeling?" He looked so much better now. She scooted off the bunk and onto the floor so she could hug Dari.
"I thought we'd lost you," she said.
