Lin's head whipped around at the sound, it was loud and someone was there.

"Hurry," she told Nina.

"I heard it, I heard it!" Nina cried out rushing down from where she heard the sound.

It was then Lin became aware how loud Nina's hooves were.

Earendil turned a corner into a darkened hall, where several of the torches had gone out, and plastered himself against the wall. He waited with bated breath to see if they had heard where he had gone.

Apparently they were closer than he had realized, he mused silently. The kirin's steps were incredibly loud ...

Then again, he reasoned, she might have just sped up at hearing the noise he had made. That would make her steps louder, though not necessarily closer.

"Slow down Nina, otherwise we'll become lost," Lin told the kirin as she reached up to light the way.

This is where the sound was coming from, but where was he? Did he leave a mark by accident or not? it was hard to tell how his magic worked after all. Though if he wasn't around here then they would have to start again.

She tapped Nina on the head and pointed down one way.

To one side of the doorway the two had just passed through was a softly glowing blue handprint- easily visible, even against the white of the walls.

Earendil took a deep breath to calm himself, then used his magic to cloak himself once more in invisibility. He could hear them coming closer now, very close ...

Using his magic, he made the sound of footsteps coming towards the two, but from the opposite direction. If he did it right, it would make it sound as if they had passed him by somewhere ...

Lin looked up seeing the handprint, so he had been here, probably didn't mean to make that one she mused as she listened. She could hear the footsteps, she turned her head a bit. Had they just missed him?

"That way," Lin murmured to Nina deciding to take the sound path.

The sounds ended abruptly after only a few minutes, and Earendil remained where he was, silent, motionless, hidden in the darkness.

In Lin's hand, the flower's glow started to fade.

"Huh..." Lin looked at the flower, it couldn't be time up yet, an hour was a long time, though time was known to fly, "Stop for a minute," she told Nina.

She looked at it and thought about it, perhaps there was another reason why it was fading.

"Go back the way we came... I think... we're going the wrong way..."

As the two stopped, the flower's glow stabalized, though for the moment it didn't grow any brighter.

"Let's go back," Lin murmured.

Nina turned around and went the other way, looking around trying to help out the best she could.

"Hmm... where oh where...."

Once the two had turned around, the flower's grow grew brighter once again - though it didn't return to its original brightness.

Earendil let his breath out slowly, listening to the kirin's voice. She was rather noisy, he thought. If she were quieter, it was entirely possible that they might have been able to sneak up on him and get close enough that he dared not move for fear of giving his position away.

As it was, he was alerted to their approach, and masked himself in magic once more and moved off a bit further.

The sound of the hooves were deafing to the little girl where there was no other sound.

"Stop for a minute," she finally said, "Okay, uhm...." she couldn't leave Nina there, the silly Kirin would get lost.

Finally Lin went rummaging around in her bag for something anything. Her stuffed plushie? No..... her other stuffed plushie? Most certainly not.... wait.. what was Helen's thread doing in there... oh yea... in case her plushies needed first aid. Lin took that out and tied it around Nina's leg.

"Stay here," she told Nina as she put the spool in her pocket, "I'll be back."

And with that she ran in the direction to where she thought Earendil might be.. the direction she was originally going before she heard the foot steps. While she still made a bit of sound, it wasn't as loud as clanging hooves. Besides, she was running to catch up.

All sound suddenly faded, and Earendil stopped in his tracks, wondering if perhaps he had gotten too far ahead of the child and the kirin. What if he had gotten so far ahead that he wouldn't even be able to find them if the time ran out?

He started to grow worried, though for the moment he stayed where he was, wondering if maybe - just maybe - they had stopped to listen for him.

Lin finally slowed down, pushing herself against the wall as she held the flower out and edged along it to peek around a corner. She wondered if she should have suggested to Nina to walk the other way, but it was kind of late for that. She watched the flower carefully as if she expected it to do something special, waving it around to look for any sign of her new playmate.

The flower remained just as it was, for the most part, but took on a purplish hue. Down the corridor where Lin was looking, to the right, a faint half-fingerprint appeared, barely visible in the brightly lit halls.

"I wonder what that means," Lin thought quietly to herself as she spotted the gimmer of a glow. Checking the hallway just in case she finally walked down the corridor her bare feet padding softy.

She figured she might as well go that way, though she wondered where he could be. As she walked down she tried to look for more clues.
