Torchic let out another fierce growl as Drowzee swung at her again, this time only managing to clip a bit of the fluffy feathers on her side. Each time Drowzee attempted to strike, Torchic growled, lowering his attack power further and further until he actually did land a hit, and the damage dealt was minimal.

"Now's your chance, Torchic! Scratch him!" Jaeshan cried. Torchic chirped loudly and spun around, catching her opponent off guard and leaving three deep gashes in his side - a critical hit! "Yes!" Jaeshan cheered. "Let him have it!" Sensing her trainer's excitement, and also a pending win, Torchic threw herself forward, bashing her head into the Drowzee's stomach. He let out a gasp and staggered backwards, landing on its rear. He stared at Torchic before he slumped over, and was promptly recalled by Lisa.

"She's going to make one awesome Blaziken someday," the blue haired girl grinned. "But now our game is on." With a graceful stride, the lovely girl sent out her Venomoth, a Pokemon Jaeshan had already met before. It flapped its wings and eyed Torchic, not pleased with the small challenger before him.

Kasiya swayed back and forth on her feet, wondering what to do next. She knew that using Rock Slide or Ancientpower would end it quickly, perhaps too quickly. Then, remembering what had happened in her father's gym yesterday, she got an idea. "Ada! Sandstorm!" she cried, instantly stepping back and preparing to shield her eyes. Ada growled loudly, and stomped her feet on the ground. A chill wind was picked up, followed by a blast of stinging sand. It swirled around Ada's body harmlessly.

The Venonat cried out, not having the same resistances that the Larvitar did. It was buffeted by the Sandstorm, and it stumbled back, trying to focus. "Come on Venonat! It's just a bit of sand!" Jimmie called over the howling winds, holding his arm up to cover his face. "Try a Confusion attack!" The insect moved its antennae around, a greenish aura flooding the area. For a moment, none of the piercing sands touched it, and it stood on tiptoe as it directed the psychic attack towards Adamantine.

"Uh oh," Kasiya grimaced as Ada was picked up like a rag doll and swung around a few times before she was thrown to the ground rather harshly. Growling, the Larvitar got to her feet, far from ready to give in.

The already weakened Haunter fell easily, and even at the sight of Kilik's 'powerhouse' Morty's cheerful demeanor never let up. "Nobody had to say anything about underestimating," he said calmly as he recalled the fallen ghost. "It was written on your face." The leader continued to smile even as Haunter's imaged faded out, and he sent out his final Pokemon. It was rather sinister in appearance, laughing through tightly clenched teeth and staring openly at Kilik and Scizor with blood-red eyes. It was bipedal, and was a blackish-purple colour. Sharp ridges rose out of its back and from out of its head, and as it methodically swayed back and forth, it seemed to phase in and out of existence. Gengar's photo appeared beneath Haunter's on the scoreboard - round two would begin now. "Start with your Night Shade," Morty said softly, watching as Gengar readied itself to attack. Its fingertips danced through the air dauntingly, and a bolt of energy, black as the midnight sky streaked forth at an alarming rate towards Scizor.

Kadabra took the hit, the attack dealing more damage than Joey would have liked. "Well then, let's put a stop to that, Disable!" The Pokemon bent his spoon, causing a greenish aura to envelop Beacon's head. Unable to resist, he temporarily forgot the move Thunderbolt.

Dammit!
Mike cursed under his breath. Without Thunderbolt, Beacon's move list was severely limited. Thankfully it wasn't permanent, so he just had to stall for time and abuse every status affecting move he had. "Cotton Spore!" After a second or two of blank staring, Beacon shook his tail, a waft of fluffy dander floating over and clinging to the Kadabra's legs, severely limiting its movements. "Good, keep it up!" He cheered, clapping along with his Pokemon.

Joey was beginning to think the older boy was a little off his Horsea. "Kadabra, Psychic that oddball." Mike noted the strength in his voice as his Pokemon did as he was commanded. He's going to be a killer trainer when he's older. He thought, snapping back into the fight.

"Alright, Thunderpunch!" He shouted, a little distraught at Beacon's slow response time. His fears would not be settled as the Electric Pokemon put too much force behind his swing and threw himself off balance, missing by a hair. "Grr, Beacon!" He chastised, guilt written all over the Pokemon's face as he waddled back to his position. "No! Don't turn your back on him either!" Beacon whined, turning around and walking backwards. He tripped, falling on his butt, a rather amusing image.

"Ok, that settles it," Joey groaned. "They're both nuts."

Scizor took the attack head on to her stomach. The insect shivered slightly, then regained her composure rather quickly. She wasn't going to fall to a single attack. No way, no how.

Something was really bothering Kilik about the way Morty was acting. It was as if the calm Gym Leader was mocking him, without the use of words. Calm in the midst of a serious battle? No. The boy was forgetting what Koga had taught him those months ago. He had to be one with his Pokemon, no matter what it took, even if it meant to drop all meaning of the word 'calm'. In order to win, he had to be like the Pokemon he had out before him. And right now, that was Scizor. She was cold, ruthless and unforgiving, right? Then that's how I'll be for now! he thought.

"Scizor! Don't let Gengar get away with that!" he annouced, "Show him what took out his predecessor! Use Pursuit again!"

The Bug-type clamped her claws shut tightly then ran forward with them extended. Should the opposing Pokemon move, she would follow. Opening her claws wide, Scizor brought the weapons over her head and then down, hard, to her foe.

Keegan was now practically grinding his teeth together in frustration, no trainer liked dealing with a sleeping Pokemon. Growling, the trainer stomped his foot in anger, ready to call back Themis.

The Electrike's eyes fluttered open, and he uttered a confused moan as he pulled himself to his feet, looking around in bewilderment. Had he really just fallen asleep on the battlefield? He cast a worried glance over his shoulder at Keegan, who stood with his arms crossed, his Poke Ball in hand.

"Have a nice nap?" the boy asked, tapping his foot. Whimpering a little, the Electrike looked back at his opponent. "It's nice to have you back with us. Now get back in there and fight!" Without hesitation, the speedy quadruped bolted back into action, quite literally firing a Thunderbolt at close range. The electric attack hit home, and the Wind Chime Pokemon faltered in the air and nearly collapsed. It managed to regain its composure, however, and floated back up, loosing a curious wave of strange energy at Themis.

Torchic looked up at the 'thing' floating above her with distaste; apparently she wasn't pleased with the sight of the great purple moth either. Something clicked in her mind, and she suddenly remembered something very important. Clicking her beak, the Torchic looked up and opened her beak wide, expelling a brilliant stream of flames at her opponent.

The surprise attack lived up to its name - it definitely was a surprise hit, that's for sure. The Venomoth let out an indignant screech, fluttering its wings and glaring down at the nervy chick below. Even though the attack was super effective, it hadn't done much. Without waiting for a command from Lisa, Venomoth decided to teach the youngster a little lesson in manners, and dive-bombed the baby, slamming into her with a powerful tackle attack. Both Jaeshan and Lisa shook their heads at their Pokemon's behavior, and Jaeshan recalled Torchic without incident. He flexed his fingers, hearing most of them crack as he reached for Bagon's Pokeball, and soon the powerful little dragon was looking up at Venomoth with the same sort of look Torchic had. "Warm up with Dragon Dance!" Jaeshan said, and Bagon complied, spinning and twirling with grace and agility to power up her stats.

"We can still win this, use Brick Break!" Even though it had a type disadvantage, and Mike was hopelessly throwing moves out, he had yet to realize one thing about the Abra line: its abysmal Defense.

Beacon hopped forward as fast as his little legs could carry him, his tail bobbing up and down rather cutely. Even his own trainer had difficulty taking him seriously sometimes. Rearing his flipper back, the Ampharos scored three strikes on Kadabra's stomach, causing the Psychic Pokemon to tumble backwards.

"Wow!" Mike exclaimed, not expecting that move to do as well as it did. Joey on the other hand, grit his teeth at the attack, commanding his Pokemon to use Recover. Now was the chance, Kadabra had to remain still while recharging. "Beacon, hit him with another Brick Bre-" He stopped as a blast of psychic energy came from out of no where, blasting Beacon where he stood. The Pokemon tumbled back, taking a decent hit. "C'mon Beacon, No one bosses you around!"

A glint of light shown in the Electric Pokemon's eyes as he began to hop towards the Kadabra. As he ran, his body started to crackle with electricity, sparks making rather loud popping noises each step. His speed began to pick up, as Beacon went into an all out run, tackling the healing Psychic type. Instead of his Brick Break, he let loose his recently relearned Thunderbolt. The proximity of the attack combined with Kadabra's already weakened state was just too much strain for the Psychic cat, and he passed out, still clung to by Beacon, who had somehow turned it into a hug.

"I-I don't believe it! I refuse!" Joey stood there, mouth wide open.

"Yeah, not many people get him either," Mike scratched his head. "I don't think I do either most of the time." Joey stomped his feet, about ready to have a tantrum as he recalled Kadabra, Mike recalling Beacon as well.

After a while, the tiny girl paused to catch her breath, climbing down from her bike to sit atop a rock and rest. She sat cross-legged, surveying the greenery around her and sighing. "Union Cave is just ahead," Miharu said aloud, even though nobody was around. She leaned back and looked up at the sky, dappled with white puffy clouds. If she hurried, she could be back in Violet City by dinnertime, have herself an early night then head out bright and early in search of a Mareep. "Okay!" Feeling rested, the girl hopped up, and continued her ride towards the upcoming cavern.

It loomed over her like a miniature mountain, but the girl remained calm and fearless as she entered. As predicted, it was dark and gloomy, but the problem was soon solved as she released Starrie, and from its central core it released a bright light, providing more than enough illumination to guide them through the cave. After some adjustments, the Staryu perched on Miharu's bike in front of her like a great headlight, and the girl was in good spirits as the duo made their way into Union Cave.

There's something odd about this boy, Morty thought, as both he and Gengar braced themselves for impact. Something cold. Something... dark. The leader frowned, but not at the situation, more from his understanding of Kilik's demeanor. "While its close, Gengar! Confuse Ray!"

Gengar's crimson eyes opened wide and a peculiar ray was released as it hissed through its teeth at Scizor. Morty knew now he was just stalling, and it would be a matter of time before Gengar fell. However, he wasn't about to go down that easily.

Maybe now we should get serious, Kasiya thought as the Sandstorm continued to howl and whirl, sending stinging blasts of grit into the vulnerable Venonat. Adamantine remained unphased, scuffing the ground with her feet as she awaited another command. "Try an Ancientpower!" Kasiya cried, hoping the Larvitar could hear her over the raging Sandstorm. Adamantine crouched low, then jumped up, with her momentum bringing up a row of round boulders, the last in line striking Venonat from below it. A silver radiance encompassed Larvitar for a split second, and the small rocky Pokemon suddenly felt rather powerful. As her opponent landed in a heap, Ada charged forward, gnashing her jaws together as she came in for a Bite attack.

This proved to be too much for the Venonat, and it fainted, leaving a pumped Ada still raring to go. She growled loudly, snapping her jaws at the air, quite obviously ready for more. Jimmie called back his Venonat, a pained look on his face. It seemed like he really didn't want to send out his next Pokemon. He did, however, and a two-headed bird stared at Kasiya and Adamantine with two sets of eyes, each one set on a different figure. Instantly they swapped targets, and Kasiya shivered - that Doduo was creepy!

"Well, time to use Xanthos yet again." He smiled, hoping that the constant battling was bridging the gap between them. The Dark Pokemon was a hard a**, no doubt about it, but little by little he felt like he had been warming up to him. That would make things go so much smoother. He pined, mentally crossing fingers as he released him. Joey tilted his head, uncertain as what the crustacean standing before him was.

"No matter, Poliwhirl will be the victor this time!" The confident (almost to a fault) boy tossed his second Pokeball out, the tadpole Pokemon whirling its arms around hypnotically.

It looks so...plain. Mike said, contorting his face in displeasure. So...boring. At least he wouldn't have any problems crushing it.

Xanthos looked his foe up and down. To a point, he really saw no need to take the fellow Water Pokemon seriously. It looked weak, no outstanding muscles or anything. He grunted, turning away from the Poliwhirl.

Now who was being overconfident?

Seeing the attack miss Dante sighed and ran a hand through his hair. When he saw the Slam attack hit he winced slightly, that wince turned into a groan when he saw the electricity paralize Bahamut. "Luck really isn't on my side today. Fine no more misses, Bahamut lets use Faint Attack!" Dante ordered his silly pokemon. The paralisus didn't seem to affect the dragon this turn as she disappeared and then reappeared hitting the Raichu head on before disappearing again back to the place that she had started from. Unfortunatly the paralisus struck right then not allowing the small dragon to move. What ever Surge decided to do next would probably hit unless the Raichu suddenly had onset blindness.

Kilik smirked. Getting a Gym Leader tense was almost as good as getting the Gym badge itself. It must've just hit him, he thought. He watched Scizor wobble slighty after striking her target. The Confuse Ray had taken a direct hit and the boy knew it wasn't a good sign.

The Pokemon placed a claw on the side of her head, as if trying to brace herself. However, it was to no avail. She was moving about like some drunkard. "Hit it hard! Wing Attack!" Kilik ordered, and with that command, Scizor ran forward to strike her target with her fluttering wings. Halfway there, suddenly, she fell flat on her face to the Gym's floor, hurting herself in the process. Scizor stood up slowly, grimacing. That had to have been the most embarassing moment in the warrior's life. She took note of Kilik's disposition towards her trip, and it did not bode well. Then she eyed the Gengar, pointing a claw at him. Another slight stumble.

The strange attack drifted forward and struck Themis, only the attack didn't seem overly weak or powerful. The lean Electrike shook it off, his fur bristling with static electricity. "Take it out, Themis!" Keegan called. "Spark attack!"

Themis let out a howl, and his body became writhe with electricity. He dashed forward, using his speed and momentum to carry his weight into the Chimecho, and they crashed to the ground, rolling along in a crackling heap of yellow, green, white and red. When they came to a stop, Themis jumped up, snorting at his opponent as he trotted back over to Keegan's heels, and sat down, looking over his shoulder at the girl. "Good job," the redhead smiled, bending down to pat the Electrike, who scooted away in awkwardness. He didn't want to be babied, not in the middle of a battle! He barked impatiently, wanting to continue fighting.

The girl frowned as her Chimecho was recalled, and she sighed, smiling a little as she sent out her next Pokemon. She as a pretty smile, Keegan thought as a rather prissy-looking cat Pokemon appeared before them. Its long tail ended in a puff of purple fur, and it carried itself with utmost elegance. Themis licked his lips hungrily, eager to dish out some hurt onto their new opponent. The rather prim and proper Delcatty batted her eyelashes; she too was ready to begin.
