-The man covered in the dragon scales finally made to the edge of the village were few people were still packing and leaving. he tried not to seem to obvious a he walked around trying to figure out what's exactly going but even more so what dragons were these.-

"seems they created quite a scare."

-few recognized the man in the armored dragon scales and knew not to get in his way but were more shocked to see him back still wearing the scales.-

Traitor? But he wasn't a traitor was he? Risen lay there bleeding much like the knight who had embedded the blade into his back was. His mind couldn't quiet wrap around the idea that he had somehow betrayed his kind by following the blessed path. Lierce said that Avalene would not be touched now and that had been his goal...but to be called a traitor? The dragon's eyes moved to the fallen knight who lay on the field of battle with him. Then his eyes traveled to the bound pair that lay dead nearby. Dead because of him. Maybe he was a traitor...

Those were his last thoughts as he blacked out from pain and blood loss.

Quote:
Recap of Dooooom III

Dragonside:
-- Aaliyah, Astaldar/Blade, Vastina/Rue, Grishmak/Thara, Viscal visit the Fallen’s caverns, running into two abrasive, adolescent dragons who were investigating the area. Words were exchanged between the two groups, upsetting many before the adolescents left (such as a death threat to Viscal for his spur should they ever meet outside Genyiel).

-- While suspicious of Grishmak/Thara's (and less so Viscal's) reason for ending up in the cave, Aaliyah is side tracked by a hatchling named Crevan finds his way into the room and gets underfoot as he tries to get everyone to play tag before getting hungry and wandering off again.

-- The group searches the cave and find no clues while in the meantime,
Master Lierce is accompanied by 10 Knights, battle ready, heading into the Boundary on Tarketh's information (though it's only half trusted) to search for something. Shadine has reservations about Tarketh's info, but can't talk Lierce out of going.

-- Vastina asks a few spirits to follow the adolescents from earlier. The spirits come back saying that the two are meeting up with a group of Fallen on their way to make a Border raid. The group decides to go report the raid to the Knights. Grishmak/Thara (being a Tainted) and Viscal (having a spur of Tarketh's) are slightly weary when they reach the Knights' HQ… and reasonably so as the guard recognizes one as a Tainted and reacts unfavorably.

-- After requesting for Lierce, they find out he and many Knights are away on a mission, but are led to Lady Shadine who listens to their words. Admitting the raid cannot be outright stopped at this point, she says they can try and warn the town before the raid hits.

-- For those who were willing to warn the town, she draws a rune on the ground that the youngest dragons can use as a teleport to the village. The older dragons, too big for the teleport, would have to fly if they wished to help.
- Who teleports: Vastina/Rue, Astalder/(and reluctantly)Blade
- Who flies: none currently
- Who stays behind: Viscal, Grishmak/Thara

-- Teleport leads to the center of a good sized town, the arrival of the young dragons causing the villagers to panic. Their warning goes unheeded until a bitter man familiar with dragons approaches them, ordering the archers down. They tell him of the raid and that the Knights won't make it to the village on time to protect it. The man then orders an evacuation of the village and tells the dragons to they cannot follow them to their sanctuary as he doesn't want any dragon to know where it is located.

-- As the villagers evacuate, Astalder/Blade and Vastina are trying to decide what to do next. Blade suggests getting out of there as fighting off the Fallen is unlikely for them.

Humanside - Group 1:
-- Risen swaps clothes with a bandit he tied up in the woods and begins to follow Avalene, close enough to help but too far to be seen. Avalene can unhappily sense his presence, however.

-- Jay returns to see Avalene and Alter far down the road and finds the 3 tied up bandits while looking for Risen. Pressed for time, Jay coup de graces the last live bandit before catching up to Avalene and asking where Risen is. Avalene says he's around but adds that Risen isn't human, also telling the ranger to go inland to avoid upcoming danger.

-- Avalene lets the ranger take Alter home while agreeing to avoid the town and meet Jay on the south side. When Avalene reaches her destination, she calls Risen out of hiding and realizes he is similar to her. She pleads for him to explain her powers and why she has them, but he has no answer. He introduces himself as "Wanderer".

-- Risen, Jay, and Avalene all see a flight of incoming dragons and think they could be trouble/Fallen. After returning Alter and getting supplies, Jay collects Avalene and the two riders speed down the road and into the woods as Risen stays behind to buy them time.

-- Risen changes to dragon form, and the Knights arrive. Master Lierce demands an explanation for Risen's challenge and irregular wings. Risen replies that he is duty-bound to a mission and can't let them pass, using his powers to block the path behind Jay and Avalene as well as send rocks flying at the Knights who quickly surround him.

-- The Knights attempt to subdue Risen, beginning a battle with damage traded between both sides. During the fight, the Knights receive Shadine's message that Fallen are moving in for a raid to the north. A clawed and sword-slashed Risen puts up a fight using his powers, keeping most of the force at bay while:
- wounding Lierce with rock shards and claws
- knocking a bound Knight right out of the saddle
- killing another dragon after Sain's mental command
- and rolling over Lierce's bound Hammand, crushing a number of his bones

-- Rolling on top of Hammand has possibly jammed sword that was between Risen's shoulders deeper into his back. After getting up, then Lierce rams his horns into Risen's neck and attempts to rip it open while roaring about how Risen has succeeded in protecting the prophetess because the Knights must now leave to deal with a dragon raid. Risen is left behind unconscious (dying?) on the road.

-- While escaping, Avalene realizes Risen was a "hound" and senses she will not see him again alive. Minutes later, she passes out and falls off Dulcimer. Jay dismounts to check on her but an albino "mage" appears from nowhere, ordering her to leave Avalene and the area. When Jay pulls a weapon and demands information, he refuses to answer with anything but info about Jay he shouldn't know.

-- The stranger (using a power far greater than any mage) scrys the ranger in entirety before giving her a vague comment about her future being unclear. Looking more composed after the scry, the stranger gives his name as "Sain". Confused and angry, the ranger leaves rations for the still unconscious Avalene before hopping astride Dulcimer and preparing to leave.

Humanside - Group 2:
-- Tired of looking for food, Crevan takes a nap before traveling north to see if he runs into dragons there. A few days later he realizes he is being followed and climbs up a tree to try and knock a branch on his follower.

-- The man on horseback following the Crevan tries to capture him in a chain net, but only manages to do so after the hatchling fatally wounds the horse to the point the man must put it down. Struggling under the net, Crevan is then put into a metal cage where he is fed pieces of the horse. Though he cries and makes a fuss, no help seems to come for him.

-- The full cage is then hauled by the man for a couple days through the Eastern Forest. During a break, the man tells the hatchling that they are heading to his hay farm to the west in the Human Lands. Also after Crevan is older, they'll head farther west to the ocean. Crevan's spirit is pretty much broken at this point and he's trying understand why the man is trying to talk to him like they're friends.

-- A young traveling priestess who has been tailing them comes out into the open to stir up trouble, telling the man he should free the dragonet. The man politely says that the hatchling is his own business and releasing him is not in everyone's best interests. He asks what a girl is doing out in the Borderlands, and she replies that she is heading to a dragon gathering as she has ties with a dragon.

-- The man lets Crevan out of the cage, but the girl randomly leaves before it happens. Crevan follows the man as he starts walking away and they arrive at the farm. He is introduced to the man's 7 yr old daughter, Ashlynn, who is to help take care of Crevan. When Ashlynn mentions a panic occuring about some dragons at the nearby village, her father goes to check it out while she takes a motherly role in finding Crevan food and a place to sleep.

Humanside - Group 3:
-- Damon wakes up, grabs an ale and heads outside to whistle for his dog-minded-dragon Bloodshed. He leaves the area of Lady Yvette's Keep and heads to Gorknik. Once arriving, he looks for place with a cooked meal and a resting spot.

Humanside - Group 4:
-- Bri'get stops at an Borderlands inn and orders some water, ignoring the usual stares she gets for her darker skin.

As Lynx and Midori traveled northward down the road, they became aware of the scent of blood hanging in the air around them. Worried, the young woman and the verdant dragonet slowed their pace, becoming more cautious as they approached. A large dragon, its scales purple and red, lay bleeding, a sword embedded in its back between a pair of strange, wispy-looking wings. "Hurry, Midori," Lynx said as she rushed forward to the dragon's side, with Midori close beside her. The young woman knelt, carefully examining the wound. It looked severe, and she wasn't sure either she or her dragonet could help, but she decided to try. Carefully and slowly, Lynx pulled the sword from the wound, and Midori stepped forward. Closing her eyes, the youngling focused on healing, urging the damaged blood vessels to heal, the broken tissue to knit back together. Meanwhile, Lynx hurried into the forest, to gather a poultice of healing herbs to place on the wound. She returned a short while later, and carefully applied it to the dragon's wound. It wasn't nearly fully healed, but at least it wasn't bleeding as much as before. The two stayed by the dragon's side, sadly knowing there wasn't anything they could do for the dying human who lay a short distance from the dragon, and all they could do for the dragon now was to hope for the best.

Vastina nodded as Rue looked at the older man. "Let's go then before its too late." The little boy said even as he started to move through the empty village. The purple Ascended looked around before looking back to Astalder and Blade. "Once we are out of the village we can figure out where to go from there."
PostPosted: Wed Oct 17, 2007 6:32 am

Watching Rue momentarily, Astalder nodded before walking after the two. Blade lingered for a few seconds longer, just to glance around the village and the sky to make sure that they wouldn't need to be running for their lives or taking cover right now, before also turning to follow the rest of the group.

"How much longer do you think we have to find a safe place?" asked the dark youngling while they moved. He wasn't quite sure how far this village was from Genyiel, but he figured that in any case, it wouldn't take the Fallen dragons a whole lot of time to fly here, especially since they had already left by the time this group warped.

"Probably not enough time to keep walking at this pace."

With that said, the older human broke off into a light run and quickly moving ahead of the others. Blinking for a moment, Astalder nodded before trotting off after him, glancing behind at the other two to make sure they were coming as well.

Sain took no more notice of the ranger. He merely sat down close to Avalene, cross-legged, and closed his eyes. An aura of power surrounded him and his hair seemed to float a bit, as if charged with static in the wintertime.

'This is where most fail,' a voice said in Risen's drifting consciousness, 'So far you have obeyed what I have said, albeit with some reluctance. But the Blessed Path does not require mindless slaves and this next part you must do alone. You are dying, Risen. Not only are you dying but you have failed yourself... I know your thoughts. You have killed your own and worse - the injuries you inflicted on that human will render him and his rider unable to fight the Fallen dragons. Perhaps one or both will die. I have not looked into their futures.'

There was a pause and searing pain lanced across Risen's back as the golden wings vanished and left only scars behind, open and bleeding.

'The humans ripped the dragon's wings from them,' Sain continued tonelessly, 'You now experience the same, for the Blessed Path is taking the gift it gave you back. You are dying, you have failed yourself, and you are no longer useful to me. This next part you must do alone. The only help I give you is that a Blessed must know all aspects of creation... it must know the circle of things, the emotions, and all joys and sufferings that living creatures go through. I bid you farewell, seeker of the ancient knowledge.'

And then the presence departed and Risen was left alone in his own mind.

((Sorry this is rather long. Jay is being thinky again.))

As Dulcimer was guided back to the road, the ranger's mind was heavy-set in thought.

What had she stumbled upon? Could the mages still be dumb enough to try and mess with the dragons a second time? But then why was Avalene wanted by the Baroness or that Sain guy for that matter? Avalene had also thought the earlier flight dragons had been coming for her as well.

After finding the road, while she was too far to see the town itself, the sky was clear enough for the rider to look above where the town would be. There was no smoke which meant the village was not burning, an unusual missing piece for a dragon raid.

Jay pushed Dulcimer to cross into the forest on the other side of the road before turning north, back to where she had left the stranger Avalene had been weary off, the one that Sain person had briefly referred to. Could it be that this Sain and the stranger were connected? a brother-in-arms maybe? Jayara shivered at the thought as memories of Sain's gaze struck a cord in her. She did not want to experience that again even if the stranger might know what happened to Avalene. With the man's track record for disappearing on her so far, however, the ranger did not hold high hopes for meeting him.

The ranger hadn't even reached the battle site when a faint, recognizable smell of copper reached her nostrils, the smell only growing to fill the air as Dulcimer trotted on. No draconic roars or large movements ahead meant that the flight of dragons had probably come and gone already.

After tying up Dulcimer just inside woods, Jay walked out into the clearing of the road heading toward the dragon and human bodies in the dirt ahead of her, unsheathing her short sword when she spotted a live human and a younger dragon in the area. Something about the live pair's demeanor hinted that the blade wouldn't be needed though. They looked as if they had chanced upon the site after the action had already passed.

The ranger was about to confront the two until the armor from one of the bodies on the ground caught her eye. Pausing to kneel down for a closer look, Jay's mouth dropped open as she recognized the insignias in the metal. Any Tarragon ranger worth their salt knew that design even with the bloodstains.

That was the mark of the Dragon Knights.

Jayara began to swear.

Due to their size, the dragons were out of her league to assist and so she made no attempt to check on them immediately. She checked the first human Knight's pulse and found the man to be long gone and more swearing followed.

"How long have you two been here?" the ranger shouted to Lynx before hurrying over to the next Knight to see if there was still breath in him. "Do you know what happened here?"

"No," Lynx replied. "Midori and I have only been here a short time, we were walking on the road and suddenly we came across this." She looked around, shuddering at the many dead and wounded around her. "We - tried to help, but Midori's magic isn't very strong yet, and...all I am is a former apprentice from an apothecary I left." The young woman's eyes wandered across the scene, wondering what had happened here.

Midori also looked around, fretting. She wanted to do more to help these people and dragons, but her powers weren't developed enough to allow her to do more than she already had. Sighing, she stood near Lynx, also trying to figure out what had caused this.
PostPosted: Fri Oct 19, 2007 2:30 am

Hardly a cagey glance was given by the ranger in the little dragon's direction when the twiggy woman spoke of Midori. Seeing as the dragonet was already bound, Jay grudgingly decided to put up with the thing's presence as she put away her sword.

Nearly lying down on the ground to check the next Knight, just by looking at the dented armor and the blood, the ranger had already given him up for dead. At first she heard and felt nothing from the man on the ground. Just as she was about to pull away though, she heard a faint rasp of breath in her ear. Quickly, she returned to listen, hovering over the man's face just to make sure she wasn't imagining things. When the next quiet, strained breath came, it had seemed an eternity to wait for.

"By the gales..." Jay said aloud in amazement before calling to the girl. "Hey! We got a live one here!" she said as she motioned for Lynx to hurry. "I need you to keep an eye on this guy while I go get my horse and my supplies. It'll only take me a few blinks, but you said you had some experience in an apothecary, right?" the ranger asked in a rush. "If you've got any sort of herbs or concoction with you that dulls pain, stuff it under his tongue, have him sniff it, lay it on his head... I don't care but give him as much as you can without moving anything but his jaw. He's going to need it."

The ranger stood back up as she thought out what she had with her and how much she could do. At best, about the only thing she could do was stabilize the Knight; keep whatever was broken from moving too much and stop up the wounds but her own survival skills nor the new girl's talents weren't going to save this guy in the end. Even before given the Knight a serious look, the ranger already knew they were going to have to get an expert healer for this guy - maybe even a magical one at that.

"So, can you do that?" the ranger inquired again of Lynx and her supplies.

"Yes," Lynx replied, already fumbling in her pack. She took out a packet of dried leaves from a pain-killing herb, and gingerly opening the knight's mouth, she placed the leaves under his tongue, before just as gently closing his mouth again.

Glancing up, she inquired sadly, "There's not much else I can do. Do you think there's any chance this man will survive?" She knew that a pain-dulling herb wasn't going to be enough, and that there was nothing else she could really do. "Is there anything else you can do, or are there any more skillful healers you have access to, that could help him?" the young, caring woman continued.
PostPosted: Fri Oct 19, 2007 5:56 pm

"He'll kick it unless we get him to town," the ranger said before abruptly cutting off and leaving for the woods, returning with a bark brown horse behind her. "How long he's got is the question. If you could hold onto the reigns?" Jay asked the young lady, picking up where she left off and holding the leather straps out for Lynx.

The ranger then grabbed a few medium-sized pouches from the saddle bags and dropped them on the ground next to the knight. Jay, then kneeling, went to work at removing any damaged pieces of armor that were mitigating any injuries, namely the semi-crushed chest piece that looked like it might be constricting the man's breathing. After tearing away the orange tabard and fiddling around with the straps on the chest piece, frustrated, Jay took out her knife and sliced through the leather. The front piece was carefully removed and then tossed to the side.

"I can stall the injuries, but it will take someone else's hands to fix this," Jay said, lightly feeling over the knight's soaked clothes on his chest. "Unfortunately, this town just north of us only has the basics. The nearest skilled healer is a magic user two towns West, at least half a day out." After finding a few broken ribs, the ranger moved on to check the other limbs for broken bones.

"You mentioned your dragon's name, but do you have a name yourself?" the ranger asked as she checked.

The young woman took the horse's reigns from the ranger. "My name is Lynx," she said, watching the woman checking over the knight. She wondered aloud, concernedly, if the knight would live long enough for the healer to arrive from the next town.
PostPosted: Fri Oct 19, 2007 6:58 pm

"Lynx, huh," the ranger repeated to herself half paying attention. She didn't say much else for the next few moments, moving from the man's arms and head back to checking legs, taking off almost all the armor except the few pieces she used to brace broken bones and other questionable areas with wraps of cloth and twine she pulled from one of the bags. The open wounds were more tricky to deal with, compounded by the various broken bones. From a small pouch, the ranger took pinches of a tan powdery substance, lavishly sprinkling it on the wounds before binding them tightly in attempts to slow or stop the bleeding. The stitches and whatever else could be saved for later.

"As much as I hate to try and move him, we're going to have to get him on a makeshift litter," Jay said, finally standing up, pieces of armor scattered all around her. "It will be a bumpy ride, Lynx, if just Dulcimer here drags it behind him. Is it possible to for you to talk your dragon into being hooked up to the back of a stretcher?" the ranger asked as she scouted around the forest edge for two sturdy long branches to make the said stretcher with.

"I'm sure she'd be willing to," Lynx replied, looking to Midori, who nodded her agreement. Lynx continued holding the horse's reigns, while the dragonet attempted to help the ranger find suitable branches for the stretcher.
