The soft call of gulls, the soft, subtle sound of water coming ashore, and the dull roar of short breakers coming in off of the sea of Latent. That greenish blue water, oceanic and in itself powerful, yet calm.

On the horizon, off the coast, a ship came into view, a view seen by the birds and maybe a crab or two.

Large Triangular white sails pulled taught by the sharp oceanic winds, the ship was full keel, running high in the water, it was a corsair ship, not as in filled with pirates, but it was a shallow hull, blade of a ship. It had a main mast, and 2 other masts in front and in back, with starboard and port sails, and a guide sail back on the stern. It was only using The main sail, the others furled tightly, barring the wind from giving the ship more momentum, they were searching.

Upon Closer Inspection

A young lithe man stood on the bow, with another at his side. The lithe man had silver hair, long, and pulled back with a white leather cord, the wind pulling his hair around, but it remained out of his face. He wore a white sleevless shirt, presumably silk because of the sheen it had in the sun, it was nearly skin tight, accenting his lithe form. His pants were the same color, and presumably the same fabric, looser, and alot more comfortable. He was barefoot at the moment, a better way to keep a grip on the wet deck. He had a white sheathed sword at his hip, curved ever so slightly, with a hilt wrapped in white leather. A white strap was tucked into his sash, holding a white mask.

His face was bared, eyes squinted slightly in the wind and spray, but his clear golden eyes shown in the sun.

The other standing with him wore much the same, a white sleevless top, skin tight, and a pair of white trousers, both made of silk, but he wore a pair of white boots with an exterior steel plate on both the top of the toe, and the back of the heel. He had no visible weapon, but wore a white band across his eyes, the light tracery of scars marring his lightly tanned face, which was otherwise unmarked by the years. His dark hair was short, and allowed to flow in the wind. He also wore a pair of white gloves, with a steel backing to them. He spoke to the youth.

You are pushing your luck. He isn't here anymore, he hasn't been seen for months, why are you so insistent on his appearance here?

His voice was deep, both literally and figuratively, he had the soft tones of wisdom, and the deep vocals of a man in his prime.

The youth spoke

He said brothers, that we were brothers, I haven't seen him in over 3 years, it's like losing my closest family. He wasn't my brother, but we took care of each other, and I want to find him, I have to find him.

His voice was opposed to the older mans, soft, quiet, and if you could perceive a persons experiences from their voice, naive.

I can tell you this now, if Ho Shin is alive at all, he wouldn't be caught dead in the damnable plains, he isn't stupid, and he isn't one to settle down so easily, but who says he is alive at all? This is gaia, people die every day

It wasn't words said in spite, they were words said out of wisdom, he had lost his share of friends, and as much as he didn't want to see hit protege hurt, he couldn't let the boy waste countless lifetimes searching for Shin.

The ship continued to slice through the water, on closer inspection it was made of a reddish wood, with white sails, and on the side, printed in white paint was the word "Liberabit"

Nothing more was said for a short time, Tenma was thinking, and Mamoru was doing the same. They would have plenty of time to think.

His appearance into the world of Gaia wasn't accompanied by fanfare, no explosions of power, no Trumpets or interstellar light shows.

That would be too much.

No, Kern's appearance into the world was simple, a soft flash of light high in the clear blue sky as if a star was winking upon the world. He floated down, carried on a gentle breeze like a milkweed pod, spinning as he fell to the earth far below.

And there he would settle, a seed pod roughly the size of a baseball, shaped like a birds feather, the tip of it buried into the ground to keep it upright. And there he would set, for 3 days he settled there, roots of magic and of natural means peircing the soft earth to provide a base for the little divine seedling.

Nutrients poured up from the ground and into the seed, and thus it was that Kern gained 'its' sentience and began to learn about the world he had fallen into. A plethora of information rushed into his otherwise nonexistant brain, blinding his inner eyes to everything. From this, the seedling form would be complete, and the sappling form would commence.

Soft cracking as the hard outer shell broke, the seed looking alittle like a tumor on the ground, the plants all dead around it. For you see, there could be no life without death. And up from that death would sprout the tree form of Kern in full glory, his single leaf spinning in the wind at the tip of his slender trunk, one bare branch sticking out from the trunk to the east.

SEIZA

Fox, out in the beautiful Gaian plains, was taking a kneeling position, with both fists placed on the hips. His chest was inflated and his back was broad from holding his breath in, his muscles showing.

Exhale.

''...''

His eyes opened, giving a sharp look at the horizon. His mind was empty, his body relaxed. He took another deep breath.

-Exhale- ''...''

For some reason, Fox hasn't been saying much lately. He's been rather quiet, unlike the rambling at HoH '08. Bad mouthing and whatnot. But what could Fox be doing out here, wearing nothing but short spandex in the middle of God-knows-where? So far away...

Of course, he was training.

" I always show up early." He did too, always way earlier than he needed to. Damion had been out here for a day already, setting up everything he and Stephen were gonna need for their teaching lesson. He had cleared out a 30 foot in diameter circle of earth, having flattened out the earth so they wouldn't be tripping over s**t. The tall grass created walls around the brown earth, showing their boundaries and such for all to see.

" Least everyone else could do would be the same." He finished, sitting in the middle of the dirt circle, munching on a sammich he had brought with him, a ham one at that. " mmmm....s'good ham though....honey cured." One track mind this one.

Stephen and his daughter Karin walked up casually towards the well prepared Damion. They had brought a sack of stuff in case it took more time than expected, but the two were... well, surprised at the intricacy of what the man was doing.

Had to give him credit though. He didn't half a** things.

Stephen looked at the sky, then looked at the set up, then paused.

"...You've been here for more than an hour or twenty-four." he said, presuming that the man was more than a little overzealous about this. But he didn't mind, and was rather amused.

" Wha' thith? NAh, IT'd take me an hoor to do alth thith." Damion said louder than he intended, spinning around on his butt to face them and speaking with his mouth full, bread crumbs going everywhere. This was a man who had no manners, for the most part, and didn't care in the slightest. A quick gulp and he was good though, " Besides, I found it's best if you can see what you're doing and it's easiest to see the difference on a flat plane."

That sounded like the ultimate blasphemy coming from Damion, all that formality. " Besides, I got bored." And out the window with that. " So, take ya'll long?" The earth user asked, pushing his way onto his feet and dusting off the black pants he was wearing, his upper body bare to the sun. He was also filthy from his work, dirt coloring his skin a darker brown.
" So, want me to show you some stuff first?"

"Easy there, give us a second to drop our stuff and recover from our trip." he said with a laugh. He dropped his bag and Karin plopped down on the ground with a small *whew*. The man pulled out a couple of bottles of water, which the little girl guzzled at happily while the man took a few drinks of his own in a relaxed manner. After a few moments, he sat the bottle down and walked over to Damion.

"So... you said you wanted to teach me some stuff first then." he said with a smile, taking up the man's offer. He took a moment to stretch as if he were about to fight, but not because he was afraid of getting punched or of getting hurt by his actions... he wanted to make sure that if he accidentally sent an earth spike or something heading his way, he could get out of the way and not pull a muscle while doing so.

" Yup, and you start with this." While Stephen went and stretched, Damion had begun digging through his own duffel bag, turning around and holding out a small ball of tightly condensed soil, almost black with how rich the soil was. " Here ya go. Mold it." Damion said, as if it were the easiest thing in the world.

Then again....for him it probably was." Just focus on it exclusive to everything else." There, that was better. Damion himself would grab another such ball and toss it from hand to hand, passing it around behind his back, between his legs, even hitting it like a hacky sack off his feet, the ball acting just like a little bean bag, collapsing and coming back into the air easily.

Stephen took the ball of energy and focused on it intently. He tried his best to not naturally go for the energy in his body as he was used to do, but some of it seemed to be used in the process anyway, so it all worked out in the end. He was fairly familiar with earthen energies, since he liked to sense the energies of rocks and trees and what not for fun.

At any rate, he focused on the small orb of earth, and closed his eyes. He wanted to start simple... from a sphere to a cube. It'd be a smaller cube, but it'd still be a changed. The dirt shifted a bit, coalescing and mixing like energy or water, very simple, melding and twisting.

The final result... well, it wasn't the best cube ever. Rather awkward shaped, really. But the idea was there, and it was a start.

"Sooo... something like that?" he said, showing his rather pathetic little structure. Karin giggled from a distance as the man smiled sheepishly. He was more impressed that it wasn't falling to pieces as he held it, a fact that proved that while it was imperfect externally, the object was solid. Not too shabby. He hoped.
PostPosted: Tue Jul 15, 2008 11:25 pm

" Huh whu?" Obviously someone was not paying attention. Damion caught his own ball as it fell from the air, looking over at Stephen's ball and blinking. " It's all lumpy....but not bad. Guess folks on the mainland have an easier time with this....oh well. Now try something more complicated like.....say, a 16 sided 3 demensional object." He said, holding out his hand. The ball in his right hand actually spread out alittle, expanding to accomodate the sharp planes and angles that would be required.

now Damion was getting into his work, and he didn't let it end there. The ball seemed to fold in on itself near the top, farthest away from his hand, sinking into the hollow inside as the tips of the planes made petal like shapes, the entire structure spreading out again to form a lotus of earth, the center actually changing to a lovely purplish color as Damion drained some of the nutrients from it, the soil around it going alittle darker.

From the look on his face, it was clear Damion was no longer with them, his eyes focused on the flower in his hands. Finally he seemed to snap out of it, looking up at them and blinking. " Whoops...sorry....I'like flowers...." And his cheeks darkened in a blush before he turned his back on them, obviously intent on his work again.

Stephen laughed in a way that might seem odd at first, but it was the sign of an epiphany. "Of course, why didn't I think of it that way. Rather than focus on making a metaphysical object like a cube... focus on making something like..." he paused and focused on the energies, smoothing out the lumps and making...

"... a Die!" he said with a smile as a six sided die was formed in his hands. "Gotta work a bit on the cube so it doesn't have the little holes in it..." he said, looking over the object - accurately set with the normal numbers one through six of a regular die - "...but its a start." he said with a laugh.

He smiled and tried to work with it a bit more to make the sixteen sided 3D object. Just a d20 with -4 sides. Or a d12 with +4. Simple, right?

Damion eventually returned, nodding alittle as he watched Stephen go through the changes." It helps when you make things into things you like." He said after aminute or two," You a gambler?" He had to ask, the dice was confusing him to no end. His own stone had become a bird, perched upon his shoulder and actually moving around, stiffly but then again most birds moved stiffly when on the ground.

" Cause you seem like a gambler."

"What on earth gave you that idea?" he said sarcastically and with a smirk as he shifted through the different dice shapes. "Don't get me wrong, I'm not obsessive or anything. But it's a simple place to start. I mean, starting with creating birds and pillars is hardly the most effective use of energy. No no... start small and go bigger..." he said, content with his shifting.

"And besides. I like to gamble a bit. I also like to drink a bit. Not to mention I like to fight quite a bit more. There's nothing wrong with that, is there?" he asked rhetorically. "As long as I take responsible care of Karin and all that jazz, little things like that shouldn't be such a big deal, no?" he said.

At this point, he'd gone through the basic set of dice a few times, largest being a 20 sider and the smallest a 4 sider. He then tried to reform the dirt back into its basic sphere shape. He did so, but it didn't work quite as well as he had hoped. "Hmm... maybe a ball..." he muttered to himself before he started working on it again.

" Well then you are a gambler. Fightings a gamble mate." Damion said with a small grin before moving back infront of Stephen properly. " Now we'll try something larger."

His hands were the only parts of him to move, palms pushing down for amoment before scooping upwards, like a Music Director calling the symphony to attention. And the effect was just like that, the ground infront of him bucking upwards to create a simple egg shape, the ground about 20 feet to their left, away from Karin, sinking in to an appreciable size.

The egg was about as tall as Damion, and twice as wide, the edges smooth. " Here, form this."

Stephen paused for a moment. He thought about the Egg, the shape, the form, and looked at the ground. He attempted to mimic Damion's actions, like an apprentice learning his craft from the master blacksmith or conductor. The earth shifted, the rocks and dirt coming up into the shape of an egg. Not quite as well formed as Damion's, but it was undoubtedly an egg.

Karin from a distance was jumping up and down in that cute, childish "Yay Daddy!" way. She did think that Damion's was better, but she still was very supportive of her Daddy's attempt no matter what.

Unconditional love. It's a beautiful thing.

Stephen smiled back at Karin and flashed a confident thumbs up at the girl, then turned back to Damion and muttered beneath his breath "That's not even remotely close, is it?" he said with a quiet sigh.
