Sasuke still intends on vengeance and creating peace his way by wanting to destroy the current Kage and captured the tailed beasts within rocks. Naruto intends on stopping Sasuke from fulfilling his goals.

Sasuke is trying to become someone in total darkness, to be completely alone, but Naruto is trying to prevent Sasuke from doing that.

The fight ends when both Sasuke and Naruto stunned each other so badly that they take a trip to heaven momentarily before realizing that if they move too much they really will die. So, they lie there by the broken statues and Sasuke acknowledges Naruto at last.

Sasuke has to spend some time in jail for his crimes, but is released early because of Naruto and Kakashi and the fact that Sasuke did help in saving the world. Now Sasuke is on a journey to atone for his sins.

As Sasuke travels on his journeys, two villages, one of them being the leaf were attacked by exploding humans who were corrupted by someone. Sasuke cures some of the zombies in the other village as he was summoned to return to the leaf for questioning with some knowledge of who is behind it all.

Shikamaru has been suspected that something was on his mind, but the thing is he cannot speak of it with just anybody. When Kakashi finds out what was on Shikamaru's mind, he creates a mission out of it where Shikamaru and two of the Anbu are going to set out in the early morning to the land of Silence to see what is going on. Shikamaru runs into Naruto on the morning of his departure only to find out that Naruto had been at Ichiraku's again having ramen in the morning. Shikamaru doesn't want Naruto to change because everybody likes Naruto now.
