Eh, I'm kind of in the same boat where it's like, if this doesn't pan out I've got contracting stuff I can do, renovating or building furniture or whatever.
For them, though, it's a shitty situation. It's their full-time job, at a place they've worked for years, and all of a sudden corporate is just like, "Get wrecked, scrub!"
Yeah that sucks. I feel more bad for the manager staying. They'll have a s**t job with the extra work. The person who leaves at least has a chance at finding something better.

And I think a lot of the good entry-level people will lose morale and leave, too, once they're gone. I might stay for a little while, but that's because my department is so segregated from the rest that I'll probably experience very little change in what I'm supposed to do. Ultimately, though, it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth, so I'll probably wind up going to a competitor within the year, if the pay is competitive and the team seems half-decent.

Yeah, it's just sad. It's all over improving profit margin by just a tiny bit. But they're going to be losing people who are experienced and skilled, and piling crippling amounts of work onto people who could receive better benefits elsewhere.
