"Is there anything I can do to help?"
He wasn't a doctor, he could prescribe her any sleep aids or even get them from the health office. At least he didn't have to sleep himself. With anyone else she would be stuck alone. What did people do to sleep? "I could get you tea. Or we could go for a walk. Or a swim."

"You are helping," Maia said, standing to hug him. "We could go on a walk. Or swimming." Both sounded nice. Hmm... "Both?" She asked. "Lets go, then!" Anything to get out of the room. She grabbed the bag with her pelt.

Well, they would need to walk to get to the pool, so she supposed that was a bit of doing both. He nodded and continued out the door, then motioned to Maia.
"Grab the key." She'd have to get used to doing that. Once she had, they continued down and out of the building. On the grounds, a coyote perked its head, but not at the invisible duo. It simply stood and listened as they passed it by and headed for the pool.

Maia spotted the coyote, watching him. He seemed to have heard something, but he didn't see them. So they were invisible even to the local animals? She spun her keyring on her finger as they walked.
"When's the soonest I can visit home?"

"That's a coyote," Dari said, unprompted. He stood and watched it for a short while, then continued on.
"We'll be watching the beach for signs of interest. We can't know yet, but we'll definitely tell you when it's safe. Probably no sooner than a couple of months."

A couple months at least? Maia swallowed, going slightly pale. She forced a smile, "Well! Isn't it good I'm not bound to one body of water?" She asked, shrugging. "Lets hurry and get to that pool huh?"

Oh, the poor thing. She was clearly bothered. He had noted the change in her coloration. He might have agreed, he might have told her that if she was bound to the same body of water it would have been so much worse, but nothing was going to help. He knew that much.
"Sure, it's down in a part of the building we haven't gone through before." He took a hard left when they got inside and let Maia down a hall that... looked a lot bigger when you were in it than when you were turning toward it. Huh.
The pools were always open, because the pools were for the residents and temporary clients, and they were video-monitored 24/7.
"Salt water?" He pulled open one door, just assuming. The other pool was chlorinated and a selkie wasn't made for chemicals.

Maia was fairly quiet while they went down the hall. It did seem a lot longer now that they were walking down it instead of towards it. "Salt water," she agreed. Freshwater was always alright, but the stuff humans used to treat their pool water tended to dry out her skin.
"You'll swim too?" she asked.

"Sure."
With anyone else, Maia would undoubtedly have been out of luck. Few people were able to be active at 3am and even fewer would be willing to get in any sort of water. He didn't mind, though. It didn't affect him. The water rolled off and he was good to go.
The pool was of decent size, although not quite so wide as a public pool, and smelled distinctly like the sea. Dari stepped aside to pull off his pants and jumped in without a second thought.

The smell of the pool alone was a delight, and as Maia put her pelt on, she dove into the water. It wasn't the ocean, full of wonders and fish, but it was close enough. And there were no dangers to worry about. No sharks to avoid, no whales.
She made her way through the water, swimming towards Dari. She made circles around him. The pool wasn't large, but it was nice. She pressed her nose to him in thanks. No one else would have come swimming so late with her; but Dari had, to make her feel more comfortable.

It was amazing to see someone make the transformation between forms so quickly. He personally didn't actually have 'forms' exactly, but full bodily alterations could take hours. Even Toby experienced great pain when it came time to change and once a month he had absolutely no say in the matter. Maia was able to just pull a sealskin over her back and call it done.
He saw her coming toward him and smiled, then watching her do circles before offering a little seal-boop. He placed his hand on her back as one might to a human friend's shoulder and then dipped under the water with her. He didn't feel the desire to morph his shape at all even if it made swimming slightly more difficult. He swam to the deep end and simply let himself sink feet-first, feeling them plant at the bottom of the pool.

Maia watched Dari sink to the bottom of the pool, and followed him down. She circled around him again. He wasn't going to morph, then? Could he swim in this form? She pressed against him, encouraging him to hold on. If he couldn't swim in humanoid form, she'd help him.
She'd offered to teach him to fish, after all. He couldn't drown, he'd assured her of that the night they'd met the kelpie; but it was certainly more fun to swim with a friend.

He could still swim, but by no means as fast as a seal. He took her sudden appearance as a transformed hug and returned it, but did not hold on. He was a dense creature and no easier to manage with his wobbly body. He might weigh less than the average man but he wasn't about to accidentally break their latest client. Instead he followed after her, moving with practices strokes and kicks.

Maia broke the surface, removing her coat. She seemed to have more trouble staying afloat in this form. She set her pelt on the side of the pool. "Here, now we can swim together." She paddled across the pool. "I bet you could race me," she said. Race and win.

Dari came back up to the surface and turned to Maia.
"You don't have to do that," he assured her. Besides, it was never comfortable to swim in clothes. She splashed down into the water rather than heeding him, though, so he swam up beside her. "I bet I could," he added with a little laugh. It was obvious that Maia hadn't swum in this form often.
"Really, you can put your pelt back on. You'll get cold."
