The growling grew louder as Chase leaned his massive head further towards Malachi. His main eyes flicked over to the six-legged one, glinting with smug pleasure.

Discarding the slimy packaging, Lenore wiped her hands on the grass in disgust.

"Yeah, I know... just wish he didn't like it so much. Mum thinks I'm the one eating it all the time." she said, making another face.

Julian just smiled, simply enjoying holding her in his arms again. It had been too long...

Plucking at the grass in thought, Ethan started to nod, then changed to a shake. He looked quite uncertain.

"I'm not sure," he confessed. "We talk often, and she...ah," he blushed and grinned yet again. "She hugs me. I think that's a good sign."

Pleased with the six-legged one's response, Chase deliberately purred a bit louder, absently stretching out a foreleg and knocking Malachi's legs out from under him, and in a fluid motion pulled the boy next to him.

Heh heh.

Len winced apologetically at Malachi.

"Oooh, I forgot about that. He does that sometimes. It's a good thing, though - means he likes you," she said quickly, giving Chase a dirty look that was casually returned with four sly glinting eyes.

"He's way smarter than he lets on. He'll play dumb to get you to do what he wants." she added tartly.

Julian's eyes widened a little in surprise, then hooded in sly understanding.

"Sure," he said, lacing his fingers through hers and holding her hand comfortably close.

Ethan, still looking pensive, nodded absently.

"She looks good in a uniform, too," he said quickly, blushing fiercely as the words spilled out. "Ah... a lot of people think my accent's funny." he added, looking a little sulky. There were telepathic people in school, for heaven's sake - what was so funny about his accent?

"I'll try," Len said. "Not fair you don't get to fly."

That settled that, then. Flying on her own was terribly dull after a while - she'd have to figure out a way to get him airborne.

Ethan shook his head, looking amused.

"Not a blessed thing. The days are bleeding into one another - no action to break routine," he said cheerfully. "Not that I mind, really."

Getting bored with sitting still and letting himself be used as a couch, Chase got up abruptly and yawned, showing every tooth in his head. Stepping over Malachi carelessly, he attacked the food bag for a few minutes before moving on to the two extra.

It was a rather disgusting display, and the bone crunching sound effects didn't help things.

Content, Chase yawned again and shook himself, tossing Lenore off his back gracelessly. He flicked his ears lazily at Malachi and snorted derisively at Shivali, heading towards the edge of the forest and looking once over his shoulder as expecting them to follow.

Looking nervous, Lenore shook her head hard, eyes flicking from tree to tree again as though expecting to see someone there.

Indifferent, Chase snorted once more and disappeared into the brush, pulling off creeping into forest rather well despite his great size.

"Hmph. You're welcome, ya great hairy git." Len said, throwing herself onto the ground beside Malachi. "Jeez. I go out of my way to feed him and he acts just like a freakin' cat. Jerk."

Len bit back a laugh, flaring her own tail out and flexing spindly fingers and toes in amusement. Not sure what to say, she just stuck her tongue out at the direction Chase had gone and then turned on her side, rolling around a bit in the wet grass as she tried to get comfortable.

Looking amused, then slightly disconcerted as he thought on how real the threat of actual zombie hordes was, Ethan shook his head.

"...Nah, you know.... routine isn't so bad, once I think about it." he said warily. "I wouldn't mind missing out on the zombies."

Laying on the grass quiet and still for a while, Len fiddled with the wet grass and flicked the water off her fingertips. It was calm, quiet... And when the sharp cracking sound of a stick trodden on came from the woods, she bolted upright and rolled accidentally on top of Malachi. Getting up off him, she grinned sheepishly.

"Ah, heh... sorry," she said, brushing off his shirt and then yanking her hands back, straightening her own clothes. A roll of distant thunder roared low in the air, and Len sighed as the heavy rains began over the lake, making a steady path forward.

"Great. Gonna get stuck inside again," she muttered to herself, frowning. Getting up and brushing herself off mechanically, Len glanced over at Malachi and smiled. "Unless you don't mind stayin' out in the rain. Someitmes I rust a bit, is all," she added with a curiously pleased expression.
