It was great to be celebrating a birthday like this, and Miyuki actually half wondered if that meant River and Jess would get married soon. Though she figured that maybe Jess would want to have his family there when they did. Then again, she thought Jess wasn't old enough yet, but probably wouldn't be by the time they left? Time tended to blur after a while.

On the other hand, she was 99 percent sure her parents didn't even have a wedding.

Then there was Aranxia, it was neat that she was also turning sixteen, and on a day that already had a lot of celebrations to begin with. Overall, Miyuki was just happy for the both of them. It was a good day for a birthday.

So that no one would be left out, and because they were the only ones present in the dining room, the staff had arranged the tables into a heptagon. Servers were constantly coming and going, taking empty plates and bringing more food.

"So River," Wren grinned, "any word now on a date for your wedding?"

"Aw, come on," River giggled. "You know it's going to be a while before Jess hits sixteen. Besides, now that Aranxia's of age, shouldn't you be asking her?"

Naida grinned cattily at Aranxia, "That's a good point!"

Even Lin had to chuckle at that, but that was probably because there was something amusing about the fact Aranxia found the love of her life without even trying. After all, that wasn't the point of her coming, but still a happy occasion.

Though she had to admit, the Aldrich family was becoming more and more interesting as the years went on.

"What do you say, Aranxia?" Wren winked at her roommate. "Thoughts on a date?"

Aranxia blushed hotly, and Aennan pretended to be interested in his food - though he was really listening for her response with as much interest as anyone else.

"Um ... well ..." Her face was bright red, and she looked awkwardly at Aennan. "We ... um ..."

Under the table, Aennan squeezed her hand; and then he smiled at her and looked at Wren to answer for Aranxia.

"I have not yet met Aranxia's parents," he said quietly, "and until then, I do not believe it would be prudent to hold such discussions."

"Fair enough," Lin replied with a smile heading off any more potential teasing, "That's always a big step, meeting or asking the parents."

She glanced at Earendil, since Earendil had to go to a different world to talk to her father.

"But I'm sure it'll enjoyable trip, I know Aranxia's grandmother will be, overjoyed."

She was going to add squeal to that, and still mentally did.

"You will have to cover your ears when you meet Grandmother," Aranxia told Aennan seriously, agreeing with Lin. "If you'd like to retain your ability to hear, that is. When she found out that Uncle Earendil and Uncle Daeron were married, we could hear her all through the palace!"

Aennan was amused by the fact. "So you did not inherit your timidity from her?"

Aranxia giggled. "No, not at all. Actually, I don't think anyone in my near family is quiet. Not boisterous, certainly, but not quiet."

"To be fair to your grandmother," Lin told her, "She had been waiting for a very, very long time for your uncles to marry."

Especially Dareon, Lin had know Dareon growing up, he had always been older than her from a stage standpoint. So it seemed like after a while that he would always be single.

"I beg to differ," Lily put in with a smile. "My understanding is that neither one of you, Daeron and Earendil, are yet one hundred years old. Am I correct?"

"Yes," Earendil affirmed. "We are ninety-four and ninety-one."

Lily's smile widened slightly, and she nodded. "A very short time, then," she murmured. "Far less than the millennium that I have been waiting." She winked at Luk, who chuckled softly, his cheeks flushing a faint shade of red.

"Well, in that respect, perhaps Mother didn't have all that long a wait," Daeron chuckled. "I think maybe her desperation made it feel all that much longer to her."

"I can sympathize with that," River agreed, her eyes flickering towards Jess.

Lin chuckled at this, she also sort of figured to herself it was also because it seemed like the two were never interested in marrying. Though that was a completely different kettle of fish, for both brothers.

"Just a bit longer," Lin told River, "By the time you two head back...."

It was a pity, they were probably going to miss that wedding, and no doubt Aranxia's as well.

"Yeah, I know," River laughed. "I know. I'm just impatient."

"Well, if it's a wedding you're all waiting for," Luk spoke up, grinning widely, "then you're in luck. Next month, if all goes well, Lily and I hope to wed, and I think it's obvious, but we'd like all of you to attend."

Now that brought grins to faces, it seemed like after so long the two would finally marry.

"That's wonderful! Of course we'll be there," Miyuki laughed, "It'll be great."

"A toast," Lancaeriel beamed, picking up her wine glass and holding it up. "Congratulations to Luk and Lily. May the favour of the Valar be upon you."

The others around the table raised their glasses. "To Luk and Lily," it echoed around the tables.

Lin looked at the girls, "And to River and Aranxia, may you both have a long and wonderful adulthood ahead of you."

This was their birthday after all, and their coming of age.

Glasses were raised again as the new toast was repeated around the tables as well.

"You know," Kaito mused, looking around at everyone, "I think this is the first time we've all been together since we got here. I know it's the first time I've seen some of you since arriving. What's everyone been up to? It's been a full month already."

Shiro opened his mouth to reply, but Kaito cut him off with a way of his hand. "We all know you've been living in the library and copying every book you can read. I want to hear the interesting stuff."

He grinned cattily at Lin. "How about you? What have you all been doing?"

"Spending a lot of time with Earendil learning about more about Caras Galadhon and the people here," Lin admitted with a bit of shrug, "Sometimes we go to the library, other times we've wandered around the city and often we just end up talking to different people..."

Especially since the city seemed to be a city of immigrants, so it was interesting (though sometimes a bit disconcerting) to hear from these people what their birthhomes were like.

"In truth, since we've been here, Miyuki and Andarien have been doing a lot of their own thing," she added looking to her children.

That was the other thing, they hadn't spent a lot of time together. Sure, they had dinner together and sometimes had trips to the city, but the two seemed to be caught up in whatever project they were working on if they weren't training.

It was the most strange experience, and wondered if this what her father felt like whenever she went off to learn.
