"Andarien what are you doing?"

Miyuki (unsurprisingly) was already up, but she hadn't headed to meditation yet for the day. She stood with Ai in the hallway, and was about to leave to do just that when she saw her little brother come out while carrying what looked to be a bald horse.

Andarien grinned at Miyuki. "I'm gonna take my Ponyta to show Nana and Ada!" he beamed proudly. "It hatched! But it's not very strong yet, it can hardly stand up, and when it tried to walk it almost fell over."

He frowned at that. "I hope it's okay. Maybe I should take it to Shiro first instead."

He blinked at Miyuki, suddenly realizing exactly what she had asked him. "Why would you ask what I'm doing? Can't you tell?"

"Because if a Ponyta is anything like a horse you have to give him... or her... a moment to rest and let it walk on its own," Miyuki explained, "It was just born so it's probably not the strongest walker yet."

She had never seen a horse born, but she did ask questions about them and liked to learn about the creatures she was riding.

Andarien blinked. "Oh... well you can't expect me to know that, I've never been around a newborn horse before!"

He set the Ponyta down on the floor in the middle of the hallway and took a half step back to see what it would do. It pawed at the floor and waved its stub of a tail back and forth slightly, lowering its head slightly. When its tail flicked back and forth, there was a sudden whoosh as its tail burst into flame - just a small one, but flame nonetheless. A moment later, a flame appeared between its ears and snaked its way down the back of the Ponyta's neck, forming a small fiery mane.

"Huh ..." Andarien grunted, grinning at it. "Neat." He took a few steps back. "Hey, can you walk now?" he asked it eagerly.

The Ponyta raised its head and pawed at the floor again, then took a tentative wobbly step forward. It hesitated for a moment, then took another step. Andarien grinned and walked backwards, encouraging the Ponyta to follow after him. It did so, slowly at first, then more quickly, until it was keeping pace with Andarien easily.

Andarien giggled with glee and threw his arms around the Ponyta's neck and hugged it carefully. "Did you see that, Mi? It can walk now!"

Miyuki chuckled at this, "I saw, it only needed a bit of time, but take it easy on the first day okay?"

She wasn't even sure a horse (despite being only a foal) would be allowed in the palace.

"Let's go see ada and mom, I want to make sure you're allowed to keep it indoors or if we have to get it a stable room."

Andarien nodded. Miyuki's last comment worried him, though. He didn't want his Ponyta to have to stay somewhere away from him ... he wanted it to stay with him like Eon did!

"Maybe we should ask Shiro what he thinks, too," he said quietly, stroking the Ponyta's neck. "He'll know if it's safe to keep it inside. Besides, I have to ask if it's a boy or a girl."

He stood up again and brushed his hands off on his nightshirt. "But Nana and Ada first," he agreed. He led his Pokemon over to the door of his parents' bedroom and knocked.

"We'll see, but just remember," Miyuki warned him, "They'll treat Ponyta like a horse or unicorn and I don't think even their foals stay inside the palace."

She could be wrong, and she knew how attached Andarien was, but there were disadvantages to having a Pokemon who would be the size of a pony or horse. Still, she went him and waited in front of their parents' door.

Earendil had already been up the mountain that morning for some exercise and was just now drying off from a quick bath. He heard the knock at the door and frowned gently.

"Are we late for breakfast?" he called out to Lin as he pulled his clothes on in their bath chamber.

Usually the only time anyone knocked at bedchamber doors was when someone was late for a meal.

"No," Lin shook her head.

She hadn't gone with him, in case the children needed anything (Andarien especially). Getting up from the couch, she strolled over to the door and opened it. To find not only Andarien and Miyuki (and their Eevees), but a very young Ponyta as well.

She chuckled, "Good morning, I see someone hatched."

Andarien nodded, but rather than looking excited, he had an anxious expression on his face.

"Nana, is my Ponyta going to be allowed to stay in the castle?" he blurted out before anything else. "I don't want it to go out to the stable, I don't want it to be by itself!"

"Ah....." Lin crouched that, "I'd rather your ponyta get use to not being indoors though. It's going to grow very large and its better it get use to staying outdoors."

Now this was an issue they hadn't foreseen when they agreed to get Andarien a ponyta.

"But, we can ask if it can stay in the courtyard instead of the stables since it is young."

That was the only allowance she was going to make at the moment.

"But it will still be by itself!" Andarien protested, kneeling next to the creature and putting his arms around its neck again. "It's too little to be all by itself!"

Earendil stepped out of the bath chamber, fully dressed but in the process of tying his tunic strings. He couldn't help but feel that both Lin and Andarien had a point - and to be honest, he didn't have a solution.

"I think Andarien does have a valid point," he spoke up thoughtfully. "As a newborn, being on its own anywhere won't be good for it. I wouldn't suggest putting it in the stables, though ... that's where the horses and unicorns are, and they don't do well with ... er ... strange creatures. But the courtyard doesn't have the space or protection from the sun that it would need ..."

"So I can keep it in my room?" Andarien asked hopefully.

Earendil shook his head. "Your room isn't nearly big enough," he said firmly.

"Well I'm not going to make it stay in its Pokeball all the time!" Andarien retorted, beginning to sound a bit angry.

"Andarien," Lin replied back in a firm voice, "We weren't suggesting it stay in a Pokeball, but it can't stay in your room. I understand you're worried about it and since your father agrees it shouldn't be on its own, so we won't leave it on its own, but you need to understand Ponytas grow to be much larger that what it is now."

She didn't look happy, but it wasn't because of the Ponyta. Andarien was sounding like he was on the verge of a temper. It was one thing when he was little and it was over his lessons, but he was older and while she admit he was worried about his Pokemon, he was also protesting because its what he wanted too. At least that's what it seemed like to her.

"We'll ask and see where would be a suitable place for your Ponyta to stay. You may stay with your Ponyta since you're its trainer."

She wanted to warn him to not throw a temper if they couldn't make those kind of accommodations in the future, but decided better of it. It was just in this one case, but if Andarien looked like he was going to throw more tempers in the future she would have to talk to Earendil and see how they would handle that.

If she didn't scold him first, goodness knows it was tempting.

Andarien was silenced by Lin's reprimand, but his eyes showed that he was not as calm as he looked.

"So if it has to stay in the stable or something, I can sleep down there with it?" he asked, just to make sure he was understanding his mother correctly.

Lin looked at Andarien carefully, she could almost hear her own father in the back of her head reminding her to be clear and thorough.

"As long as we can accommodate the both of you, yes. You may sleep with it, but at any time in the future if we cannot make those accommodations the two of you will have to sleep separately."

The last thing Lin wanted was for Andarien to turn around and throw what she said back at her face. She knew he was the type to take things to the letter or voice his own opinion when he thought things were silly without care what other people thought.

Actually now that she thought about it, that might cause problems.

"Right now," she emphasized, "Your ada and I will make arrangements so the two of you can sleep together. Since it is a newborn there will be no question about it, you may sleep with your Ponyta during our stay here in the Palace."
