Kino gently pet Hiro once more before she shifted into her fox form. This way would be easier for her to keep up with him. She was slightly curiously about the vibe he put off when he was watching the small pack. All the other wolves looked to Kino and she nodded. Her tail twitched and the animals started moving toward the village. She followed, mewing for Hiro to run with her. They made it there in no time and she shifted back to her human form. She knew Hiro would scent out and find Hotaru to check on her. Kino hoped the woman had recovered. The scent of food hit her nose and she suddenly felt hungry. She quickly made her way to where everyone was gathering to eat, and relief hit her as she spotted Hotaru. She greeted them with a smile and took a portion of the food. "You look well, Lady Hotaru." She smiled at the pale girl. Then, she turned to Lorelai. "I take it you've rested up." She smiled and started eating, glancing back to see if Hiro had followed her to see Hotaru.

Apparently, they did not believe his words, but his goal was not to make them trust him. They proceeded with their business ignoring him as they went. What if he were some demon in disguise? He could easily deal with the village alone, even as a priest he could do so, but that violated his morals. Picking his bow back up off of the ground, he placed it over his shoulder in order to freely use his hands. Moving down the steps he went to one of the small houses where a little boy had called him over.

His mother lay deathly sick within her bed and one of the wolves (Kouga's) was sitting outside of the house acting as a guard for the little boy. When the two returned, the wolf put its head down in order to nap. Having been given the order to protect the humans by their leader Kouga, the wolves would do no more than that. Sitting down besides the bed where the mother laid sick, he looked to the group of medicines tucked in the corner. From the looks of the room, the little boy's mother knew a thing or two about medicinal herbs. After mixing herbs, he applied the medicine to the mother before waiting quietly with the boy. Keita had fallen asleep on the side wall with the little boy asleep as well; his head on Keita's shoulders. Soon enough the mother coughed lightly waking Keita, the little boy and the wolf outside which now entered the hut as well to watch. She had recovered and was now hugging her only son. After words of thanks he stepped out of the hut only to see that it was getting later.

"Stop it before it reaches Lady Kaede's hut!!" screamed one villager. "Destroy it quickly!" exclaimed another. Looking to his left, a large demon centipede with the head of a man shot up the stairs pushing the wolves that were on guard down to the ground. "You people destroyed my sister!!" The demon meant Mistress Centipede and as it shot high into the air Keita simply thought about those within the hut that would be crushed. Taking an arrow out, he quickly ran up the stairs before stopping on the last staircase. "Don't move from the doorway of the hut!" called Keita to those inside. Pulling the arrow back quickly now, he waited until the male centipede began descending to release the arrow. His spiritual power coated the arrow before striking the demon in the heart. As it slumped down to the ground it muttered words of hatred before it was completely purified. Putting his bow arm down now he sighed a soft breath of relief.

Masato raised the meal to his mouth, only to pause at the voices from a distance. The villager's screamed until dying down from the sudden of relief to be saved from danger of a yokai. Uncertain of the event, he proceeded to pop the food into his mouth. It was rather silent after until Hotaru spoke up about the bow he was carrying around. He glanced at the weapon, gently reaching to rub across the smooth surface. He remembered Shippo's words, a girl to be contained in this bow to be saved from harm's way. Masato nodded. "I'll keep it close. Still a bit surprised about this whole girl sealed into the bow." He took another bite out of his food and swallowed. "A pure heart..." Something like this reminded him from reading of a story book or a Manga, but how exactly is he suppose to do? "So... how long would it take for her to regain her strength to have this spiritual body?" Hopefully, regaining her strength was a short term instead of years to come, no one wasn't going to wait for that long. He continued to eat till he had completely ate his meal with satisfaction. "Finished..." He was pleased to be a bit full and decided to return the empty ware back where it belonged. "Hm, I'm not sure what to do now." He returned to the table and sat down, his Shikigami sat patiently on the ground, staring at everyone who were eating.

Glancing up at the commotion, Hotaru found a frown twitching on her lips. How had a youkai gotten in? She didn't think that Tomo would have been foolish enough to tie his life force to the staff. That would be shattering to his frail body. It would weaken his body further. Her gaze moved to the hut. A worried look briefly appeared but Hiro's growl took her attention. The new stranger worried him. Apparently his presence unnerved him. He didn't like the fact that the human was as close as he was to Hotaru. Turning her attention back Masato, she took another small bite.She would need to hunt later. "It all depends on her. It will be by her will alone that she would be able to gain that semblance. She mentally reached out to the bow. She felt pain linger in her but she recognized the soul of the girl was well. Finishing her meal, she gave a small smile toward Masato. He really was a curious one. Very unlike the humans in this time. It struck her then. He seemed very odd for a human. Moving to sit next to him, Hiro curled up partially on her lap. She ran her fingers across his head, scratching lightly. "You are strange Masato-san. Why is it you are unlike the humans in this land?"

Within Kaede's hut, Tomo shivered. He felt weaker than usual. Feeling the barrier waver, he gasped. Kaede moved closed. "Houshi Tomo... Ye are ill. I shall summon your lady." Tomo reached out and grabbed her wrist. "Nay, Lady Kaede. I shall be well. The barrier merely has weakened this body. I shall be well soon." Kaede hesitated before sitting next to Tomo. "Allow me to help ye Lord Tomo." Tomo smiled wearily. "Nay Lady Kaede. I am not long for this world. I will live to ensure that the boy has some control over his powers. My apprentice has taken over my own village and so it is safe. Perhaps ye can take him on as yours." Kaede bowed her head. "I will think on this." Tomo sighed and closed his eyes. He slept.

It might have seemed highly unorthodox to see a fox demon in all his glory laughing, joking and amicably chatting with the villagers while helping to rebuild the huts that had been wrecked, but to Gramps it felt natural as though he fit in perfectly with everyone else even though he was much bigger in his true form and towered over all the houses. With his many tails, he was able to multitask and help those around him by handing his fellow workers the supplies they needed or gently lifting a worker if they needed to get on a roof while using his giant clawed hands to deftly put together the hut he was working on. Everyone working in the near vicinity of Gramps had no need for ladders. He only stopped what he was doing when the centipede demon attacked and was prepared to rush in to help, but Keita beat him to it. As Gramps watched the giant centipede disintegrate, he breathed a sigh of relief and resumed working on the assumption that the barrier must have been weakened by Tomo falling asleep. He gave a wide smile and cheerful wave to Keita as he called out, "Nice work there, lad! Good show, let's hope those arrows of yours will discourage the vermin!"

Lorelai had finished her meal already and was pretty much doing what she did yesterday: racing laps around the village with a child on her back along for the ride. It didn't take long for a line of boys and girls to form once they noticed what Lorelai was up to. She had just set down the kid who'd been riding on her back previously and had been about to let the next one in line climb on her back when she too noticed the giant centipede demon. Itseemed before she could blink, one second the demon was there and the next, it was purified and vanished. Lorelai frowned in concern, knowing fully well that Tomo was in control of the barrier and such a weak demon shouldn't have been able to enter the village. Worried that something might have happened to her friend, Lorelai gently placed the child she was carrying on the ground next to his mother with a quick apology, earning disappointed protests as she did so. With the promise to come straight back, Lorelai made a beeline for Kaede's hut and made her way inside. "Tomo, are you alright? There's something wrong with the barrier, a huge centipede demon somehow found its way in. Good thing someone managed to purify it so it's gone now." Lorelai had a worried frown on her face as she stated, "But if a weak demon like that one could get in, odds are, there may be more that might try to harm the village. What're we gonna do?"

At Kaede's rebuke, Lorelai clapped a hand over her own mouth and gave the old priestess a sheepish look while her face turned the same shade of red as her hair from embarrassment. She quietly whispered, "Sorry..." in apology so as to not wake up the sleeping Tomo and fixed the sleeping figure with her own worried stare. She could sense there was something wrong with Tomo, but Lorelai wasn't able to tell how serious it was. For all she knew, he could have just suddenly come down with a bad cold or as Kaede suggested, suffered from fatigue and lack of sleep. Lorelai's expression brightened as she hit upon a sudden idea. Careful to keep her voice down, she asked Kaede, "Do you think I could go fetch Kurama and Kino? Maybe they could help Tomo recover more quickly. If there's a way, maybe we could also get Gramps to help with the barrier until Tomo is feeling better. That should keep out any uninvited guests, right?" Lorelai gave Kaede a hopeful smile. She hated watching someone suffer and wanted to do anything she could to help speed up Tomo's recovery.

((Well, I think I could probably play Kaede. I've watched the whole Inuyasha series, so I think I've got her personality down. I'm not sure about Tomo or Hotaru though since you made them up. So nobody will know what you want them to do except you, I'm thinking. At least Tomo's unconscious for now. sweatdrop ))

Lorelai breathed a sigh of disappointment. She really had hoped there was something she could do for Tomo to help him recover more quickly. Lorelai was worried being put in charge of the barrier hadn't helped matters either on top of two nightly attacks in a row on the village. Lorelai knew from watching her grandfather keeping up a barrier was hard work even when there was no multitasking involved to protect the village from any demons that might still break through anyway. It was no wonder Tomo was exhausted, that would take its toll on any human. She hoped that if there was some way to let her grandfather take over control of the barrier, it would let Tomo rest and hopefully he could regain his strength more quickly that way. Shaking herself out of her thoughts, Lorelai gave a shy smile and blushed slightly at Kaede calling her gracious. "Aw, it's nothin' really. Tomo's a good guy, and I wanted to do somethin' that would help him. Same with this village, it's full of good people and I want to do everything I can to help everyone." Lorelai actually gave a wide smile as Kaede requested her assistance in gathering herbs. "Sure, I'd be happy to." She gave Tomo one last glance before eagerly following Kaede out of the hut, hoping their unconscious comrade would be okay. As she passed by the women and children, Lorelai gave them a wave as she smiled in sheepish apology. "Sorry everyone, I'm afraid the rides will have to wait until later. Tomo's not feeling well at the moment so we're going to gather herbs for him." Once she explained the situation, Lorelai ran to catch up with Kaede since the old woman had gotten ahead of her.
