 E V E N T.........T H R E E * * * * * * * * * * * * * .........Writing Prompt Sale
Jewels are Valor (gold) and Children (multi-hued).
Duration: July 20th - July 25th 11PM EST
Participants will be given a choice between two writing prompts and must then respond creatively to the prompt using a potential host character of their own creation. Submissions will be judged on general creative writing merits: quality/applicability of ideas, organization/structure, voice, grammar, character development, and "show don't tell"
Each participant can write one entry per gem, and can try for as many gems as they like. However, each participant can only win one gem for the event. Winners will be expected to pay the 50k Flat Sale Price on award of gems.
Please fill out the Entry Form and submit here in thread.
Please remember when creating your potential host: *Any race is possible, but only the Edels are True Gods. Everything else is actually just a powerful Ageless Immortal in shop lore. *Differing worlds had differing levels of technological advancement. Everything from Stone Age to Halo:Reach applies.
Prompt 1 The moment is impressed into your mind as a hand into cement. It will neither fade, untouched in its flash-curing by the weathers of time, nor discolour with the shifting of perspective brought by maturation or stagnation. Tell us your tale, bearer, of this memory that lives on and marks you.
Prompt 2 He said to me, "Here is an old soul..." when he looked at me. All I could remember were his eyes-heterochromatic blue and red, but they weren't real colours....

Location Physical Description (biomes, architecture, etc): Breakline Cairn is a rustic, almost wild looking place. Set deep within a forest clearing, Breakline is a series of four buildings built of roughly hewn wood. However, rather than looking as if someone came in and slapped up a structure with no thought for the woods around it, Breakline shows an odd balance between natural and artificial. Though each building is made of wood from the forest, great care has been taken to make them look as if they simply sprang up from the forest floor. Shrubs, grasses and flowers are planted in abundance and can even be seen sprouting from the walls and roofs of each building.
The main building can easily hold up to 50 people and also houses Breakline's most important feature: the Cairn stone. Consisting of three side and a roof, the main building is open to all who come peacefully. Within, the floor is packed down earth covered by dusty rose pink clay tile. Benches for those interested in sitting are set back along the walls. A fire pit draws one's eye to the center of the room. And then the enormous crystal hanging over the pit draws the eye up. Tethered by several braided, rawhide ropes, the stone is a shimmering, multifaceted quartz. Flowering vines have been trained along the rawhide ropes to help provide a little more beauty.
The remaining three buildings are much smaller and feature four walls. Closest to the Cairn's main building is the Pantry and Kitchen. Large enough to hold at least two months' worth of food and drink, with some of the space also being deep underground, it can also comfortably accomodate up to five people working shoulder to shoulder on preparing a meal. And while the outside might leave one wondering about potential hygiene breaches, the inside is glistening white from tiled floor to wooden ceiling. While not terribly fancy, the kitchens have a clay brick oven for baking, a fire pit with a suspended stove top attachment for concocting soups or steaming vegetables, and a water pump in the corner with a pair of tubs for washing dishes. Shelves holding various pots, pans, baking dishes and eating utensils line the walls.
The third building is really more of an outdoor closet. No great pains were taken to make it beautiful on the inside as it serves only to store various tools and bits for different Cairn rituals. This building sits somewhat behind the main building, but closer to the treeline.
The fourth and last building is a rough dormitory to provide sleeping space for those who live at the Cairn as well as the occasional overnight visitor. The inside is rather spartan with small trunks or chests set against the walls to hold personal possessions. And rather than traditional beds, hammocks are utilized along with bedrolls to make the most out of limited space.
Social Description (Races/cultures): Originally built as a reminder of home and former duty by refugees from the World of Darkness, the Cairn at first was home to only a few relocated Garou and their kin. As time passed, even the Garou's formerly rigid social structure began to break down in the face of unwelcome isolation. Soon, other Changing Breeds were cautiously welcomed along with a few nature-minded humans. Now, the Cairn plays host to a mixture of beings from Changing Breeds to human to animal. So long as all respect each other and the Cairn itself, the original Garou caretakers remain peaceable.
Events of Note/History: Setting of the Stone: When the displaced Garou arrived, they searched long and hard for an out of the way place that would remind them of home. When they found what would be the Cairn clearing, they went to work with a vengenence. After almost a year of building, the Cairn was ready. Except for the matter of the Cairn stone. It took another three months of searching before a large enough and clear enough crystal was found. And once found, the Garou and their families had a celebration to mark the day and promptly hung the stone from the roof.
Opening of the Way: It took a great deal of time and lonliness to erode away the Garou's distrust of the other Changing Breeds as well as their fear of the Edel world inhabitants. The decision was made to open the Cairn to others. And once commited to it, the Garou went all out. The Cairn was strung with multi-colored lights, masses of food prepared, and even a few musicians found to make the event into a huge party. And once surrounded by those they'd feared, the Garou swore that Breakine would always be open to those who showed respect and care to its keepers and the land it lived upon.
Characters/NPCs of Note: Dances with Humans: The only remaining Garou from the original pack. He is a tough, wiry, old b*****d and isn't afraid to bare some teeth in order to keep the peace. Though he was considered to be the runt of the pack, he is still an impressive 6'5" in human form. His flat hazel eyes hide a twinkling sense of humor and he keeps his thick, white hair held back in a neat ponytail. Though a Bone Gnawer by tribe, he prefers to shun their scruffy ways and keeps clean shaven with his clothes neatly mended. When in Wolf or Werewolf form, his fur is thick, fluffy and a mottling of greys and browns. His left ear has a nick taken out of it, a keepsake of some forgotten brawl. Dances considers himself the Cairn's guardian and is very careful to make sure that the rules are followed.
"Owl" Tomlyn: Owl is the newest addition to the Cairn. He felt drawn to it once he learned about its inhabitants, thinking of the gathering he had interuppted on his home world before being transplanted. Though still very nervous around the Changing Breed members of the Cairn, he is slowly getting used to them and can often be found hounding and harassing Dances with Humans for information on the Garou and their history. When not being a thorn in the side of elderly werewolves everywhere, Owl acts as a purely human liason to any newcomers to the Cairn.
Ihriye: A young Rokea (wereshark) who stumbled upon the Edel world much like Owl or Dances. Though not overly happy about hanging out in a forest, she needs and craves the company of others from her world. Since her comign to the Edel world, she's adopted Dances as a surrogate grandfather figure and will often assist him in taking care of the Cairn. However, she still needs the sea, so she will often vanish for days to get her salt water fix before returning.
How to Access it: Though one could stumble upon the Cairn by accident and be cautiously welcomed, the preferred method is by invitation. The Cairn's keepers are slightly picky about who they allow access to as old habits are hard to kill off entirely. However, should one hear rumors and decide to investigate, they will be allowed in, but watched carefully to make certain that they mean no harm to the Cairn or its Keepers.
Reason for making this location: I've always loved the idea behind the Cairns in the White Wolf books and thought that a modified version to allow people other than werewolves access would be fun. Also, while the Cairn is meant to be a place for nature lovers as well as WoD refugees to hang out and be happy, I think that it also holds potential as a sort of neutral ground for other beings if needed. After all, the Cairn has a slowly growing reputation for wild and crazy parties. It's kind of difficult to stay angry if there's a party going on around you or if you need the cover of noise to discuss delicate matters.
