Aven felt the last of the energy leave him and flow into Jack. She released the immortal's hand just as he gave a cry of pain and collapsed twitching on the floor. His body crackled with energy for a few moments before he finally stopped twitching and breathing altogether... not that Aven noticed.

She wrapped her arms around the Doctor's neck and gave him a proper snog without the energy to get in the way. When she finally pulled away the girl smiled at the Doctor's blushing face and noted that she no longer felt fear coming from him.

"How are you feeling?" she asked gently.

Aven smiled at the Doctor sweetly.

"I'm glad..." she said when suddenly without warning she gave him a sharp slap. Her hand stung from the action but she didn't care.

"NEVER SCARE ME LIKE THAT AGAIN!" she said as her voice frayed in the end. "Stupid... idiotic man!"

As if on cue Jack gasped and came back to life.

"Ow... that one packed a punch..." he groaned as he sat up holding his head, "Aven, what the hell was that all about?! You could have asked!"

Aven wanted to yell at him and call him an idiot over and over again. He'd scared her like very few people had managed to do and he had the gall to ask her why she was upset?

"YOU!" she yelled at him, "You complete and utter... moron! Do you realize what you just did?! Do you have any idea what you put me through you... you..."

She looked about to say more but her eyes suddenly became sad and frightened. She'd been hiding behind anger, but now that was quickly vanishing. Aven hugged him and buried her face in his shirt.

"Don't scare me like that," she whispered, "for a moment I thought... Doctor, what would I do without you? I don't want to be alone again."

The palm of the hand that had grabbed Jack's wrist was scorched with bright red welts and bleeding as if she'd scraped it over glass but she didn't care. All that mattered was that the Doctor was safe.

Somewhere in the background Jack stumbled and twitched as his body had yet to adjust.

Aven winced as he wrapped her hand.

"Oh just leave it," she sighed, "it'll heal. And don't think you're getting out of explaining what the hell that just was. You were all glowy and.."

"Y'know I could use a little bandaging myself, doctor," Jack said raising his arm to show the spatter of welts on his skin. A sudden thought crossed his mind.

"Aven, how did you know I would revive?"

"I didn't," she stated her eyes focused on her hands, "but you did, and now there's no point in dwelling on that."

Jack stared at Aven then looked up at the Doctor.

"She could have killed me!"

"Oh sure focus on that..."

Aven stared at the Doctor and she sighed.

"So you do die," she replied softly taking his hand in hers, "I could sense your fear. You were afraid to die, weren't you?"

Her hand gently squeezed his.

"I'm glad you're still you."

Jack cleared his throat loudly and Aven rolled her eyes.

"And I'm glad you're still alive."

"Oh? Is that your blessing then?" Jack asked with a smirk before taking Aven's hand and twirling her, "You heard him Aven. Would you like to go out?"

Aven blinked owlishly at Jack as he dipped her.

"Out where?" she squeaked.

"Out on a date..." he gave her a cocky smile.

"Doctor, do you see any other girls here?" Jack replied with a smug grin, "unless you're planning on telling us something VERY shocking, I only see Aven. So whadda ya say Aven? Go out with me?"

"I've been on your dates Jack," Aven said giving him a smirk, "and I was not impressed."

"Psh, that time didn't count," he replied closing the distance between them, "it was more of a business meeting. I wanted something from you... well... several somethings."

Aven blushed and opened her mouth to protest but no sound came out. The idea that she would do... THAT in the TARDIS was a little insulting. Jack wasn't so quiet about it.

"And why NOT Aven?" he asked walking up to the Doctor more than a little ticked off, "You do this every time! You did it with Martha and you did it with Rose and now you're doing it again with Aven! Hell the only reason you were ok with me and Donna was because YOU couldn't have her. But that's the kicker isn't it? I'm not good enough for your companions unless it's a last resort. I know you blame me for everything, I know you hate me and you know what? Fine! Have a nice long hate, Doctor! But you're not the only one who lost everyone they ever cared about!"

Aven cleared her throat. "I'm still here you know..."
