((Nature might be glad to have multiple vampires share in this payment. a "no drinking vitae for at least an hour or two after you pay a certain amount of blood" is kinda like Nature saying "ok, you unnatural freaks... time to pay back what you owe. set things in balance."
I actually like how Vampires are fictional unnatural creatures that are a metaphore for many of the ways nature plays out. the White Wolf game Vampire: The Requiem depicts them as being soulless echos of their former natural selves.))

((Neither Alfons nor Dmitri are qualified to bless anything, and the monk's halfway to Malaysia. However, there is going to be someone at the Monk's place that might be able to help with that. I have no idea how to describe the crash landing. I just zoned out there for a sec, my mind's gone blank))

((alright, I got this.))
with a last rumble, the harnesses holding the Dragons to the carriage fell off, and the latter began a bumpy fall thorugh the trees it was skimming. crashing and tumbling through the foliage and branches, it rolled along the side of a mountain and eventually shattered open on the summit.
Val checked to make sure mouse was ok -- she was bruised and scratched alittle but otherwise conscious and unharmed -- then, looked around at the others.
"any injuries?" he asked in a rushed voice.
above them, the magnificent beasts were circling and swooping over the peaks, engaged in a viscious dogfight. it wouldn't be long before the attackers came down looking for them.
at that moment, it began to rain, and lightning could be seen in the distance.

"Nein." "Few cuts, nozing serious."
Ciro was thrown from the carriage, landing face-first into some mud. He sat up and spat some of it out of his mouth. "I have the worst headache I have ever experienced."
Alfons reached into his pocket. "Well, my GPS is intact." He checked it. "Ladies and gentlemen, we're not but 10 kilometers away from a safe haven." "Good, von't be long before zose rats come looking for us." Dmitri rooted through some of the wreckage, finding his bag. He pulled out a tactical shotgun, then slung the bag on his back. "Ve should get moving." Ciro walked back towards the others. "Scarlet, are you OK?"

"Ugh--I hate the rain," Scarlet groaned as she was quickly soaked to the skin. "But at lease I have all my limbs--regeneration is not pleasant. Still, our attackers owe me a new silk gown, and I mean to take it from their hides." She looked around the peak of the mountain where they had landed and then to the horizon. "We had best find shelter for the day, lovies. And maybe some kindling for a fire. I need to dry out."
With that she started to pick her way over the rocks. When she came by Val, she hooked her arm in his so that they could walk together for a moment.
"Thank you, my dear friend. You have saved my life and Ciro's with your storm. Without you, we'd be little more than fried bacon at the moment. So if there is anything I can contribute to the cost, do not hesitate to ask. And if there is any way I can repay your risk--Mouse is completely yours now, by the way. Under the circumstances, we may not get to Japan in a timely manner, and I do not wish to hold out on my friends, especially when debts are to be paid," she murmured quickly to him.

Val himself seemed worried, paranoid even. his eyes were shadowed and his voice was different; he was using his war tone.
"I'm not sure anything can be done about payment just now. I cannot feed until I pay back in blood. and a Vampire's blood is cursed. we need a Priest."
he beckoned mouse back over to him, and walked with Scarlet as they followed the others towards shelter. he scooped up dry wood and tinder as fast as he could while he walked, and tried to keep it covered. it was minimal success, and he worried that the smoke it would release and the time it would take to light them would get them caught long before they could warm up.

Scarlet nodded, understanding--at least a little--the weight that now rested on Val's shoulders. She let him go off, collecting wood. Mouse trailed behind him, following his example.
Scarlet dropped back to Ciro and found his comforting, broad and calloused hand with hers. "Methinks it will get worse, before it gets better," she whispered. Then she looked at him directly. "Are you sorry, yet, that I made you what your are? If you run now, I won't blame you. The pirates probably aren't' interested in you, and by yourself, you could probably get away and find a mortality potion in the nearest temple."

"Val, there's a man where we're going who should be able to help you." Alfons called as he ducked under a branch. Dmitri walked up to Alfons. "So, vhere are ve, according to zat GPS of yours?" "The middle of Iriomote Island. The pirates really drove us off course." Dmitri was not satisfied, and felt the need to ask more. "And vhat is this 'Safe Haven' of yours?" At this Alfons stopped. "Well... let's just say I know the man that lives there. Whether or not it's truly 'safe' is another matter." "Psh, you and your riddles." The two resumed their trek, and Alfons promptly tripped over a tree root.
"I'm anything but sorry," Ciro responded to Scarlet, "and I do not intend to run away. I won't leave you to fend off those pirates by yourself." He glanced towards Val, who was busy gathering twigs. "But the 'payment' that's due intrigues me. What will happen if we don't pay?"

"good." Val gruffly responded to Alfons' news. hewanted to express his gratitude better, but was in a state of mind that didn't allow him to waste time or words. he barely acknowledged the help mouse was giving him, though he was glad for it. he'd reward her later, he told himself.
"one way or another, the payment will be made. Mother Nature can loan-shark with the best of them, Ciro."
the elf's cold gaze was at once soft and piercing, and instead of the usual reflecting there seemed to be a deepness to them. it was as if the abyss behind his eyes was suddenly revealed, two dark trenches in which shocking secrets lay hidden.
he had to conserve his strength. and yet, most pressing a task was to seek shelter. for now, Alfons was the group's leader.

Scarlet squeezed Ciro's hand appreciatively.
Then she felt what she had been hoping for--a hollowness beneath her feet that indicated a series of tunnels running through the earth below.
"Come on--this way," she said and took off towards what felt like a crack in the crust. In a few minutes, she found a fissure in the mountain side and slipped into a deliciously comfortable, complete and utter darkness. She sighed with relief. "That's more like it."
She basked in the lack of light for a moment, and then turned to the others. "Alfons, dearest, I'm afraid you'll have to leave us bloodsuckers here. I doubt we'll make it to your man in this weather," she indicated the sky that was already lightening as the storm clouds thinned into overcast.

"Understood. Dmitri, take point." Dmitri moved ahead of Alfons. "Just like old times, eh?" "We'll be back as soon as possible." Alfons promised as he followed the path Dmitri was making. The jungle was quite thick.
Ciro fell into the fissure. The darkness was soothing, and he gave a slight sigh of relief. "This place feels almost like... home."
Back on the surface, Dmitri and Alfons are stopped at a stream. "The dojo's down river from here." "Dojo? Vhat?" "Just follow me." Alfons sighed, as he began to walk along the riverbank. "The Old Man's not going to be happy to see me."
Downstream, a man sitting in meditation's eyes shoot open. "This storm... is not natural. There is a dark ki approaching. Pehaps they'll provide a challenge."

Valthier took the nearest comfortable seat he could, snuggling against a contoured rock. he was certain that mouse couldn't see her own feet, so he called out calmly, "take a seat, mouse. don't want you falling and hurting yourself. we'll get a fire started momentarilly, so just relax."

Scarlet smiled at Ciro's observation. "It was caves like this where the first vampires were born. Some say it was a bat that did it, and others declare that Judas was the first vampire--thus our hereditary aversions to silver, the cross, and Holy water. Old folk tales claim it was the defiled dead who weren't properly buried, but any way you slice it, the first of our kind emerged from havens like this."
She inhaled the luxuriously damp and slightly musty air--then preceded to strip to her lacy undergarments (and would have shed those as well except for the sake of any younger audiences that might review this tale later wink ). Using her sensitive night vision, she found several natural hooks in the rocks and hung up her gown to dry.
"You really should get Mouse out of those damp things," she advised Val. "We don't want her catching pneumonia."

Val grunted.
"aye, I tend to forget such things. I put thoughts of disease out of my mind when I was Embraced. he said, as he swftly pulled his pet to his lap and stripped her to her underwear.
kicking aside the logs and twigs she spilled, he sat her down safely next to him, then proceeded to hang the wet clothes along the cave wall.
luckily, his Dark Elven heritage awarded him a particular advantage at seeing with minimal light, and his forays into the Dark Arts improved upon this talent as well. the slightest contrasts were clearly perceived by him, and the darkness was itself as a radar to him. he quickly set about making the fire so that they could all enjoy it's warmth and dry themselves by it.
