Unfortunately, as he learned, he grew slightly more clever with each exchange and conversation. Graduating up from attempting to harm or otherwise disabling those he wished to escape from, the lie might have been enough to fool Evelyn, or at least to explain his odd actions. But boy, the Overseer was in an usual rush to find the priestess then, and he must have thought she was outside. Evelyn would have just caught a glimpse, a shock of white hair and the heel of his yellow boot as he closed the doors to the temple behind him.

Still, most of the island was a mystery to him, but here in the great outdoors it did not feel as if the walls were closing in on him. Before anyone shouted at him, that being he did not spot anyone right away, he jogged towards the tree line. He quickened his pace fearing pursuit, delving farther into the overgrowth beyond the paths. By no means an easy way in a robe, it beat the alternative, and he quickly left the temple behind.

It was only much later, on the edges of the northern beaches, that the he found a natural alcove, where water once flowed and carved out dirt, sand and silt from below a tree's root system. Taking cover here it was cool and dark, this where he finally slept, collapsing and falling into a deep slumber.

((HDOSAHD you guys got so much RPing done. D; Just imagine this happened around 30 minutes after the bell rang.))

In the same hurried pace she used after she'd awoken from her long slumber Coline sped on, hands gripped firmly around the spear. The way the bells had been rung felt almost ominous; they were different from the slow and mellow chiming she would often hear.

Not much later the Temple came into view and she halted her tracks just a few feet apart from the main doors. Still feeling a tad disoriented she set the foot of the spear onto the floor and clutched onto it, her breathing heavy as she tried to catch her breath. The blanket, which she had failed to notice all this time, still hung loosely around her.

She thought it strange, however. With an alert like that she figured there would be more of the combat unit assembled, but there was barely anyone there. Had there been some sort of mistake? Nevertheless she was resolute and stood her ground, patiently awaiting any form of instruction or correction. Whichever applied.

(( Bells? What? Huh? What's going on?

I've been trying to fix my cosplay headphones for quite awhile now.
I just cut myself with a rusty penknife crying

Yar, it are rusty. I wonder if I'm vaccinated for this. ))

Harata wandered out into the fresh air, pointedly going away from where ever the overseer was. I think I finally made some progress with the bleeding idiot. She knew it was not fair that he had told her to train her body more. He was one to talk. She was a combat monkey, trained and fairly good at her job. She need the air to free her mind and thoughts. She wandered to a little known cove, and stripped off. She dived into the realatively cold water without feeling it. She was too busy thinking, she would of not noticed even if the water was full of blood, and all frozen. She swam fairly far out, but not past the rocks. Technically, this was a public beach, and did not know whether what she was doing was legal. She supposed she could of always worn a swimsuit, but she had not thought to grab one before. Something is not fitting. Why does he not remember? Why is he so...childish? She castised herself silently, then shrugged. I didn't mean that and you know it. By childish I meant, he does not know anything, acts on impulse, and learns quickly. Just like a child. She looked at the sky and noticed it was starting to get cloudy. Strange. I should probably head in soon. But the waters so nice.
((Yes she is skinny-dipping, and talking to herself. In her head that is. This is just a post to show how Harata relaxes, calms and focuses))
((Italics=thought.)))
(((I <3 the ever so kind nicknames Harata uses for the overseeer. Baka, bleeding idiot......))

Lorika watched the front hall slowly filling up with people from her usual position at the front. Her smile was fixed. Every now and then an acolyte would come forward and ask her what was going on, whether the Overseer really had returned as the rumours stated, and she would confirm their hopes. She had initially hoped to pleasantly surprise everyone by simply introducing him after a long mysterious period, but it was better this way. From the way things had been going, she could see that scenario ending in disaster, with the Overseer being glomped by the entire population of the Order at once and crushed to death by sheer affection. As it was, the excitement was simmering in a way that she hoped meant no explosions.

She was beginning to get worried, though. A while had passed since Evelyn had gone with the Overseer to the kitchen. She hadn't seen hide nor hair of them since. Excusing herself, she went to check for them, imagining that the Overseer was enjoying his feast early, but the kitchen was empty except for an acolyte Angelique had left in charge, who said she hadn't seen them. Is it true the Overseer has returned? Yes, yes it is.

She then walked down to the basement rooms, shouting Evelyn's name. No reply there, or in the halls.

She returned to the hall, her smile flicking back on as soon as she saw the devotees. But this time, the combination of bleakness and gnawing paranoia was making things difficult for her. Her expression flickered on and off like a fluorescent light in an abandoned building. She sent another acolyte to ring the bell again under the pretense of getting any stragglers to come in. Really, she was trying to stall for time. Panda had come over and interrogated her. The Captain had entered, but remained at the back like a great, stone statue.

Where were they?

She couldn't stop the feeling that something was terribly wrong, and maybe it was all her fault. She should never have allowed the Overseer to leave the Sanctuary so early. He needed calming. Maybe she should have disregarded his wishes and Pacified him for several hours. Force-fed him some calming potions; maybe even one of her sleeping draughts. But what kind of priestess would she be if she did something like that? Still, there was something wrong with him. He was confused, and if what she'd heard was accurate he'd been attacked readily several times that morning. He was not having a good day, and all the pressure of having to be something he had no idea he was had seemed to be taking its toll during their conversation...

As the time ticked by, she sent three acolytes - the same three from the Sanctuary earlier - to search the Temple. Every nook and cranny - bang on every door, leave no room unsearched. They came back about an hour later with nothing. Just in time for the crowd to have begun getting fidgety. Panda had come over to question her again several times, but these times she'd refused to answer straight.

If he was not in the Temple, then...

She spoke a couple of words to the Captain, asking him to keep order while she was gone. He didn't ask where she was going, or why, but seemed to understand that something important was afoot. Slipping downstairs to gather a bag full of any potions and medical supplies she might need, she wrapped herself up in her cloak and scarf and headed outside, ignoring all questions thrown at her.

Lorika the High Priestess found herself dashing up the beach in her heels, having not thought to change them. With every step, she sunk into the soft sand. With every minute that passed, she grew more worried.

"Overseer! Overseer! Please, come back to us! Don't be afraid!"

She put special emphasis on that last part.

...and you will be lonesome.

Harata heard Lorika's voice, but knew that the Overseer had been going the opposite way, so did not bother to cover up. Well, actually, she got out, dried quickly, and re-dressed. She hurried to Lorika's side. "He was going that way we I last saw him," she said, pointing the way he had gone, "But if you don't trust me, I'll go that way to look, and you go this way. Either one."

As the minutes without the High Priestess ticked away, the crowd began to grow even more restless. Now that the whereabouts of both key figures were unknown, a slight tinge of panic entered the confusion. Panic, or simple impatience. He couldn't really tell.

After a quarter of an hour, he knew he couldn't wait any longer. He stepped to the front of the room, ignoring Panda.

"Alright, listen up!" he barked. The room fell silent. "That's better. The High Priestess has already confirmed to most of you that the Overseer has returned."

A smattering of renewed mutters broke out through the crowd. "Quiet!" he scowled at the mutterers.

"Unfortunately, the Overseer is unwell after his long journey to us, and the High Priestess must attend to his wellbeing above everything else. So until he is capable of facing such an intimidating crowd as you, he shall not appear."

This was complete guesswork in his part, but he had been standing there and thinking for a long time. Having heard stories of the acolytes who had seen him distressed, the unconcealable worry on Lorika's face as the time passed with no sign of him... it didn't take a genius to figure out what had happened.

Someone called out from the crowd. "So why were we called here? What are we supposed to do while we're waiting?"

"Well," he replied coldly "You can either shut it and wait for the Priestess to come back, or... there's a feast waiting downstairs. Why not try putting it to use before it gets cold?" There was a touch of sarcasm leaning towards irony in his voice. "This is a celebration, after all."

He hoped that that would be enough to move the focus of the crowd away from the Overseer's absence, and on to his return. Sure enough, a few delighted pockets of conversation sprang up. The majority of the crowd began to move towards the hallways. He'd done his job and settled things down... for now. He'd think about what would happen once the feast was demolished when it happened.

(( Guh, unfortunately I have to go to the doctor's now, but I'll be back in an hour and a half or so. ))

Lorika stared at Harata as if she'd dropped from the sky.

"No, I must go to the Overseer. You should head back to the Temple."

Suddenly, she scowled. "How do you keep turning up in the matter? Our god obviously doesn't hold any affection for you, so perhaps you should stay out of his way for now."

She set back off in the direction Harata had told her. A part of her wondered why she was trusting her, but the girl didn't seem like a liar. Having a lead was also much better than wandering aimlessly up the deserted beach.

(( Hopefully my new posts in the official rp thread should help gauge how much time is passing. The day started ages ago in the very early morning - conversation with Coline - the Overseer's initial escapades lasted from say 6 a.m - 1 p.m, and the current goings on are happening at around 3-4 p.m. The first bell rang at about 2. ))

((Supposedly yes, thus the name Pseudoverseer. xD But of course people don't know that yet.))

Her eyes could only widen in shock upon hearing the Captain's announcement. Coline had heard a few people talking about it earlier on that day but she brushed it off as a baseless rumor. It's hard to tell fact from pure hopeful fiction, especially from the mouth of the most devoted. Which was why all this sounded so... she could find no words to describe it.

She wasn't dreaming, was she? Had the Overseer truly returned?

Coline held her head as she trudged on through the halls, slowly closing the distance between her and the main doors. She was feeling rather lightheaded after everything she'd heard. So much that she barely noticed those in front of her.

"Ah." she muttered after an unintended body clash. Thankfully it wasn't strong enough to render either of them to the floor. "My apologies... Excuse me." The apology sounded generic, and it was, but it was all she could muster from the crevices of her troubled mind. With that she stepped aside and made for the door, leaning against the Temple walls, silently resuming her post.
