"Marko, this is S'van. S'van, this is Marko, he's my--" Just as Vera began to speak, she was overwhelmed by a whoop of joy from S'van. "INAARI! I KNEW YOU COULD DO IT!" Really, did he have to yell quite so loud? She could understand his excitement, but this was a bit extreme. "Stop bellowing, S'van!" However, it took her a moment but she registered that the girl on the Sands was the very same girl that she had met at the Gather. "... Oh, Inaari Impressed? Good for her!" And to such a sweet little darling, too! She couldn't have been happier for her, really.
And neither could S'van. "O'asis, look at her, she's tiny!" Tiny, and perfect for Inaari in every way, of course. If that wasn't an Inaari dragon, he didn't know what was. Aww. How absolutely perfect. Now all of his friends had Impressed. It was thrilling, it was exciting, it was---" ... Kyllae?" That brought a faint scowl to S'van's face, and he glowered for a moment as he thought of the girl who irritated him so. Only a moment, though, because it cleared up soon enough. "Ehh... she seems to be on her own a lot."
It was not nearly as important as Inaari's Impression, of course, and he continued to cheer for the little blond with gusto. He had glared at Kyllae before, but that's about as much as he had noticed her, sadly. O'asis would have to ask someone who knew the girl how she was holding up, or maybe Nan. Nan knew everything, especially if everything happened to be gossip. He'd never met a girl who was more prone to it.
"As I was saying," Vera stated rather shortly,"-- this is Marko, Journeyman Harper and an old teacher of mine." Just like Xeran, of course.

"That's so," replied Selachii with a laugh. "Compared to the others, I think she's less likely to take someone's head off. And there she goes, right?" he nudged the boy beside him with an elbow, beaming sunnily. "I wish you luck too, be it green or bronze you end with, y'know?" He didn't really know the other boy, but the fact that Westren had spoken to him meant that he was close enough to a friend, right?

Miss Cherie “That’s a good idea,” Kagiya said, in agreement with Dolmin. Better to wait an’ keep the beasties at bay, and then get your shot at them. Besides, if they were yours they’d go for you, right? “We gots to try it, when we Stand.” It was unspoken between them that they would be Standing one day. Both of the Weyrbrats were convinced that they alone were worthy of that distinction, in their own way, so that was not surprising. She oohed and ahhed as events took place, and Impressions were made, peering out over the Sands. Just then, she thought she saw a familiar face. “HEY! Hey Dol, lookit! That’s my daddy!” At least, she thought it was S’kagi. It was real hard to tell from where they were. She could be wrong, but she wasn’t going to admit to it, not even for a moment. Not ever. “I wanna be a rider just like my daddy,” she confided in Dolmin, feeling as though it was perfectly reasonable to think of such a future. Look at all those eggs! Dragons had lotsa eggs, so one of them one day had to be hers. Right? Right? Well, if she didn’t Impress she could be a Healer like her mommy. That would be good too. Daddy had said that Healers were important. Dolmin looked out of bored curiosity to where Kagiya pointed, but maintained an air of arrogant disinterest. If their situations were reversed - if his father was the Bronzerider, instead of some anonymous man his mother refused to say a word about - maybe he'd be more appreciative. But instead, it fueled his spite every time a new reminder arose that Kagiya had a daddy, Kagiya's daddy was this great Bronzerider that everybody knew, Kagiya was oh so special! "Yeah? Well, I'm gonna be a rider," Dolmin retorted with a sudden and misplaced anger, "and it's not gonna be because my daddy wanted me to!"

That was mean. Giya hadn't been trying to brag, she was just excited about the Hatching. "... You're a meanie meanieface," Kagiya accused, on the verge of tears. She had only been pointing out her father, because no one else knew besides her mother and of course S'kagi. It had been a secret to share with a friend who had made himself special. Only... only now she wasn't sure he was so special. "And I hope you Impress a Green." That was about as much venom as she could manage for the moment before she peered up through the crack, taking her attention off of the mean meanieface, and trying not to let his words sting.

Veyes had a feeling that little sweet green would find someone else. He had his doubts he would have been the right choice but watching the little one find the right partner felt good. If this had been the end of the hatching he would have been quite satisfied but there were still several eggs to go. Although, in his opinion, Ren could have used a partner as sweet as that. Of course, it might have made for a combination far to sweet...ok...so maybe Ren wouldn't have been the right partner for her either. He glanced over at Firyal and didn't even have to think about it...no..the green and her would have been a bad combo. Oh well...he still had high hopes for himself and his friends. Since one of his friends had been lucky tonight, maybe things were changing...things could be getting better.

The freckled kitchen girl had almost made up her mind to settle back onto the sands, until a distinct voice rang in her mind. Inaarimine! I want to see what's over there, won't you take your Eponath, please? I want to know what they're doing! Her Eponath?! Her...dragon. HER DRAGON?! For one of the very few times, Inaari was at a loss for words as she turned, and threw her arms around the dark-green beauty.
"Oh! Oh Eponath, we can go see whatever you want. Aren't you hungry though? They say you're supposed to be dreadful hungry! We can do it later though! We have all the time in the world! Oh oh! Wait until Jiri and S'van and everyone see you! They'll be so happy!" The words wouldn't stop coming, and she even took a moment to nudge Goran hopefully with a brilliant smile.
"There's hope after all! See, I told you!" And it would all turn out ok now, she was sure. She was a greenrider! Inaari, Eponath's Own. Mine, who is that? He is very big! I am sorry he got hurt, but he will be alright. I am hungry, what do we eat? Leading her new life partner from the Sands, her mind would not stop whirling. Ryka would love this new addition, and of course Eponath would too! S'van and Galliath, and Ianquith would get along swimmingly with her!
Oh, it was so wonderful!

M'rik clapped a little absently- he could tell there'd been an Impression from the cheering, but he didn't know the girl, and his thoughts were wandering elsewhere. He had to admit, he'd had the thought such a personable little Green would be a perfect fit to Darcir- keeping that clam around people every second of his life. But no Dragon that cheeky would've wanted to put that on itself. It was good for the girl, good for the Hatchling. Good for everybody. I wouldn't have picked that girl, mine. I wanted you. He smiled to himself and patted Hasufeth on the head. "I know, I know. And I love you all the more for it! I couldn't have bared for you to Look to anyone else." It was a shame she hadn't gone to anyone he was familiar with, but the newly-Impressed did seem to have a lot of friends hollering for her. It was a happy Impression, almost perfect. Almost- not nearly as perfect as his own.

"'Least I'll Impress," Dolmin muttered snarkily, elbowing her a little as he went back in to watch himself. It looked like the chattering little green had found its bonded. He found himself wishing that the next dragon would come their way and see Kagiya through the crack, and roast her toes a bit. Ha! That'd serve her right!

Kess couldn't help but smile at the latest impression, still cradling her arm, leaning slightly against Uuni now. First thing after the hatching and she would be drinking some fellis juice, that was certain. For now though, she definitely approved of the two cheerful looking bonds.
Shifting a bit uncomfortably, her gaze was on the sands. Over halfway through, now.

It took everything the little girl had in her not to burst into tears when Dolmin continued to be mean. "Just 'cause you're mean doesn't mean you're gonna Impress." Sadface. "I showed you 'cause nobody else knowed and now you're mean an'... an'... I'm not gonna show you anymore!" Kagiya's lower lip quivered, an obvious sign that the seven Turn old was having trouble keeping her upset contained.

Dolmin would have been happy to let it go - but then she had to keep whining. Pulling himself away from the crack (it didn't look like anything new was happening, anyway), the eight-year-old wore his best expression of scorn. "Your daddy doesn't make you anymore special than an'body else," he told her in a firm, angry voice. "If you didn't act like y'were already a wherry-brained Queenrider, then maybe everybody wouldn't say mean things 'bout ya!"

"I didn't say my daddy made me specialer than anybody! Just 'cause you're a wherry an' you think everybody gots t' listen to you 'cause you're MEAN doesn't mean they gots t' do it!" For now, Kagiya used a tense whisper to convey her sentiments, but she was real mad now. "An' I'm not a Queenrider, dummy!" Nor did she act like it, in her opinion. Angrily, she shoved at Dolmin, that brief, tenuous friendship dissolving into nothing. ... Less than nothing.

The shove caught Dolmin off-guard. He stumbled back and tried to grab for support on the crack, but it was too far out of reach - instead, he skinned his fingertips and landed hard on his rump on the uneven stony ground.
There was that frozen moment while the boy stared up in shock. Kagiya was younger than him, and a girl - neither of which bode well for him. His mother always told him, you weren't supposed to pick fights with other kids who were smaller or weaker than you, and only a tunnelsnake would fight a girl. But if she pushed him, then... then how was he supposed to retaliate?!
The little boy sucked in a breath and picked himself off the ground. It was time for him to do what he knew, what he did best, and be utterly unrelenting. "... Dimglow," Dolmin whispered, then quickly his voice grew louder, angrier. "Thinskin. Ugly as a watchwher, dumb as a wherry! Smell like a herdbeast, useless as a drudge!" One might think that that would be all a child of Dolmin's age would have in his arsenal, but he was still just warming up. He stuck his hands on his hips and did an odd sort of wiggle with them, face scrunched up as his volume inched closer and closer to a yell. "A Bitran wouldn't take you in a bet! Faranth wouldn't lay you an egg if all the riders in the world died tomorrow! Thread wouldn't eat you if y'had on a redmeat gown!"

There was only so much one little girl could handle, and Kagiya had reached the breaking point. "I... I hate you Dolmin!" She turned tail and ran down the tunnel, only avoiding getting horribly lost by some miracle, for she could not see through her tears. Faranth, he was the meanest, awfulest wherry there ever was! She ran out the tunnel, sobbing her little heart out, and scampered up to the Stands. She had seen her daddy, she knew she had seen her daddy, and she didn't know where her mommy was, she she went straight for S'kagi.
"Daddy daddy!" She clutched at his sleeve, tears pouring down her little face, dirty and rumpled and upset! "Daddy Dolmin was meeeaan!" The horrible things he had said! She clung to the Bronzerider, her hair coming out of its braided pigtails, all a mess, and looked up at him expectantly. Daddies picked up their little girls and told them it was okay. Daddies didn't just watch dragons hatch when their little girls were hurting.
... And Daddy was watching the dragons. Sniffling, she bursts into tears anew, and recounted the awful awful things Dolmin had said. "He said I was uglry, an'... an' dumb, an' smelly! An' daddy he said I was USELESS!" That prompted a sob, louder than the others. "An' he said... Faranth wouldn't lay me an egg if all the riders in the world died... tomorrow!" She left out a couple of bits, but still on the whole it sounded horrible to her.
