You'd be surprised as to how much money people spend on art on Gaia, Ty... A lot... 3nodding That's nothing I've seen someone sell one picture alone for well over 25k. 3nodding It depends on the level of the artist really.

Also the program they use sug chan, its not just art level. Of course iof its scanned art that makes it easyer >>; Still they shouldn't spend so much...

It's all a combination of things. But generally the better an artist you are, the more you're likely to make on Gaia. xD Known fact, the same thing goes for actual money earning commissioners. 3nodding

I don't really think thats true. People worse then me have made more due to better prgrams. Thats why I made my shop the way it is, its not as high quality as the first pet shop i opened then closed long ago but its easyer on me. I only have paint, people think extremly low of that program.

I can't believe some of the prices I've seen on art! I stumbled into an action for line art one day and found simple dragons with a high bid of 55K! O_O I may not be able to draw people, and thus can't do avi art, but dragons I could do!

And I just LOVE that vaccum cleaner picture in your sig, Sug. xD I just saw that for the first time and it made me laugh! rofl
PostPosted: Tue Oct 24, 2006 9:05 pm

Oooooh yeah, that happened to me actually... Most of the things that I draw I often take from my real life experiences. That or they actually have happened to me like that.. I tripped on the vaccum cleaner one night, and I was like, "I bet it tripped me on purpose!" xd xd xd

And that's still not the case Ty. I'm serious if you don't have the talent you're not going to do so well.... It's not just the program. Just because someone uses photoshop that doesn't make them better it doesn't make the quality of the art better, sure the compression may be better and you could do more things with photoshop, but it's not going to sell your art any better. The artist alone has to have the knowledge and knowhow of what and how to do it where their skill level is and how good they are the main factors of how much an artist can make. Someone can be very skilled at crayola color pencils, crayola crayons, making things out of paper, cans, anything! The real money maker is the artist alone, not the program or the materials one uses. My squishy and I have very strong feelings when it comes to such topics.

NEVER underestimate the power of paint, never. That's the first program I've ever used on a computer and I still value that program very much to this day. 3nodding

I think the program has a big part of play in it. also crayolas not a program, its scanned. Scanned art is a lot easyer. I still have yet to see evidence that better quality art sells better though.

xD It's a conspiricy by vacuums to overthrow the Mazoku race, starting with Sug!

Hmmm...I'm torn between agreeing with both of you. In the real world, the artist matters most, but on Gaia, I've seen some real crap sell for thousands. Not to offend the makers of said crap, but HONESTLY!!! Some of those art auctions out there are rediculous! Dx

Go into the breedables subforum sometime if you want proof that better quality art tends to sell for more. Granted, other factors play into it, too. Yaoi stuff and kitsune are really big, and right now using digital art programs is popular, so shops utilizing that tend to do better. I've seen auctions go over 3 million gold for a single picture. 5k is nothing.

Also, this irritates me, so I'm going to say it now as an art major. Having and "using" programs like Photoshop doesn't make art better. If you don't know how to use Photoshop, then all you'll get in return is a crappy CG. Crappy CGs don't sell that well. The program doesn't make the person an artist; it's a tool to utilize and improve with. I mean, take the girl in my sig. I did that in Illustrator. Someone without training in Illustrator would have a hard time doing something of that quality due to the complexity of the program. It's not impossible, but it'd take more than a year or two of playing with the program, you know?

Ah, what a heated conversation going on here now. But I have to agree with everything that Midori said about having a better program, why because that's exactly what I was saying myself.

And I was simply stating that an artist is what makes an artist not the program or medium. That's where my crayola example came in handy there. ^^;;;; I guess it's not that clear though. Saying that something that is scanned is easier doesn't even make any sense either. Like I said the artist makes the artist, if you can't master more than one type of medium then you're not a very accomplished artist, now are you?

As for the things that are expensive.. I have yet to see crap being sold on Gaia yet.. Then again I don't hang around those threads all day either... So I've only had glimpses of really good artist. *nod*

Oh and about the vaccum conspiracy... I think you might be right Leva-chan... o____o;;; xd

I never said I was bad with computer art, I accually have a few fans for some odd reason... well anyway I've never been to anything past 5000 in a pet shop bisides midoris so I guess in the long run I can complain about such bad luck with shops it might just be my art skills. My first shop had slow sales because all the pets where customised and the second isn't customized but in the end maybe its not my lack of talent but rather I don't know much about the shops in piticular, or maybe a bit of both... X_x ah well.

Off topic, yes, but y'all will want to know this. Remember that link I put in here somewhere before? If anyone can't find it, Ty has it in his sig. Anywho, I found out that you can use the link for the events once a day, rather than once a week like I thought before, AND there is now a link to another user's profile where there are TONS of links! Today alone, I got an Enchanted Wooden Trunk, two Blue Magical Giftboxes, and two Pink Magical Giftboxes! O.O I just wish I had sold the pink ones because I got Duluxe Cat Ears out of BOTH! Dx
