The familiar sound of Banshees rang through the command bunker even before Mathias had reached the Major. 'Already??' He asked himself, as the Banshees screamed over head. Twombley doubled back to get an eye on the number of Banshees as well as their attack formations. Already he could hear a LAAG gun opening up on the covenant fliers.

He was becoming annoyed. He was restless and he needed information for defense. He needed the Armengald to respond, but so far he hadn't gotten any response. To hear the Banshees coming in was all he needed in order to act.
"Twombley, get anyone with rocket launchers or sniper rifles and position them where they can hit those freaks as they come in or circle around for another shot at us."

Lets hurry this up. I dont have enough ammo for all these guys.

The attacking Banshees were already taking a toll on the soldiers on the ground, causing slight confusion, but they were smart enough to get organized and fight back. Twombley saw two rockets fly up and take out a banshee that came too close to the ground on a strafing run. The smoldering wreckage smashed into the ground, sliding several feet before ultimately stopping.

The Scorpion Battle tanks were also holding out pretty well, and the Covenant pilots took note of this. 3 banshees formed up, swooping down behind one of the scorpions and let loose a shot from their fuel rod cannons. Three cannon shots total hit the scorpion in the back, where its exhaust was located. The scorpion took the first hit ok, but the next too disabled it completely and before the Banshees finished off their pass they opened up with their plasma guns.

The marines that were piloting the scorpion had been scrambling to get out when they got caught in the hail of plasma fire, killing both marines. The Lieutenant saw this happen all within a few seconds, the marines burned to death, laying dead on the ground near the disabled tank. He tried to not let this bother him and opened up a link to the last scorpion and gave an order for them to move around and not stay in one place. The scorpion complied and moved in zig zag pattern to avoid be hit easily.

Only 4 banshees remained now. The covenant pilots were not doing enough damage to justify their dwindling numbers. The Lieutenant took his rifel from his shoulder and fired at a banshee that swooped down at the command bunker, trying to take it out. Mathias' eyes widened when he saw the green glow of a fuel cannon shot charging straight at the bunker. Without hesitation he dove aside into a wall of sand bags for cover. The cannon shot exploded the sand bags around him, turning the sand into a sickly green looking glass. He had felt the heat wave but he was luckily unscathed. The pilot of that banshee had been shot out of his cockpit and the banshee slammed into the ground. The pilots corpse splattering into the hard packed dirt ground.

Two banshees remained now, but they were hightailing it back to their own base seeing that it was futile to attack anymore. Mathias crawled out from the partially collapsed command bunker, covered into dust, with bits of green glass on his helmet. The Lieutenant looked up to seee the Banshees already leaving. I wouldnt be suprised if they got executed for cowardice he thought to himself as he watched them go. Marines around him were cheering, the battle was finally over, they had survived...
