Little did Feng know just how true her conclusion was.
"Good decision," Ruran nodded approvingly at her. "I agree, there really aren't many good people in the Seconds world."
Ecthelion blinked up at Ruran. "But I thought they made it sound kind of fun there," he said, confused.

Feng patted Ecthelion on the head, "It's not the lack of good people," she corrected Ruran, "It is the lack of good mates. There really aren't many Seconds my age and those that are I'm related to more than half of them."
Naida giggled at this, "Like Uncle Yuki, and Uncle Yue, and Uncle Ryu, and Auntie Trisha and , Auntie Kali and, Auntie Lin and, Uncle Toshiro and..."

Ruran looked at Ecthelion thoughtfully. "Your parents are both elves, yes?"
Ecthelion grinned. "Yup!" he beamed. "That's my mama over there," he pointed back at the group, "and Ada's out hunting. He said we're gonna have venison for dinner!"
Ruran smiled. This boy seemed someone worth getting to know. "I see."

Feng couldn't quite place it, but there was something wrong with Ruran's line of questioning, but really she couldn't place it. It made her wish Ryu was with her, he could probably pick it up.
However what an adult would miss, sometimes a little child would catch on, or at least if that child was Naida.
"Does it matter?" she asked Ruran.

Ruran blinked at Naida as if he couldn't believe what he had just heard.
"What do you mean, does it matter?" he asked her blankly. "Of course it does! I mean ... that's what defines what you are! It's quite possibly the most important thing about a person!"
Ecthelion's brow furrowed deeply in confusion. "Mama says it's what's on the inside that's important," he said slowly. "How you act with other people ..."

"It does, but only in how we're unique, what we are is what we choose to make of it," Feng replied realizing that Naida had hit the nail right on the head what the problem is, "True we need to know who our parents are, our ancestors, because those are our roots, but they don't define us."
She tapped Naida on the nose proud of her little girl.
She laughed then, "Of course when you're adopted into a large family you learn this quickly."

"Don't be foolish," Ruran frowned, folding his arms across his chest. "Of course it's important. One race on its own is strong, but mixed blood ..."
Weak. Pitiful. He hated that his own blood was mixed. Refused to acknowledge it. Refused to acknowledge his own mother.

"Can be even stronger," Feng interrupted as if she didn't realize at all what Ruran was implying.
Though she was beginning to understand why Ruran made Miyu so nervous, though she was pretty sure that Ruran didn't know about Miyu.
"It is you who is being silly," Feng added, "If you allow yourself to be limited by blood then you have already decided how strong you're going to be."
She paused for a moment.
"I think there's a term for it, but I don't remember it at the moment."

Ruran scowled. "You're just like the rest of them," he muttered. And then he turned on his heel and stalked away.
Ecthelion blinked up at Feng, confused about many different things now. "Um ... Feng? Where is he going?" he asked in a small voice.

Feng ruffled Ecthelion's hair, she didn't want him to be feeling badly about this.
"He's going off to sulk, because he wants to believe something I don't agree with," Feng explained, "Remember Ecthelion, you're only as strong as you believe you are."
"So does that mean he's not coming?" Naida inquired.
"I don't think so, besides I think it would make Miyu mi a lot."

"I don't understand," Ecthelion frowned. "Why did he get grumpy when you said that ... um ... that people ... some people are strong? Isn't that a good thing?"
He had gotten lost in the conversation, and wasn't quite sure what was going on anymore.

Feng wasn't sure how to tell Ecthelion or if she should say anything at all. Ecthelion though should know, but on the other hand he might not understand, but she really, really didn't want to have Ecthelion be around very creepy Ruran.
She sighed and figured that she should at least tell Rose, until that little correction was dealt with, she wouldn't want Naida around Ruran.
"He doesn't believe everyone can be strong," she finally decided ushering the little boy away back towards the group, "And that is where he is wrong, everyone in their own way is strong as long as they try."

Ecthelion was still confused. Of course everyone could be strong! Even if it was different kinds of strong, everyone was strong somehow!
"Is that why he's grumpy?" he asked innocently. "Doesn't he think he's strong?"
He could understand why that would make someone sad, perhaps ... but not grumpy or angry.
Rose was watching them anxiously as they returned to the group, and though she was worried about her son, it was Feng that she looked to at the moment. "Is everything all right?" she asked softly. "It looked like it was going well but then ..." It seemed to have fallen apart.

Well it was no secret that Celebor was married to a human in the family, and if what Feng thought Ruran's beliefs were, were true... then not only was he a very creepy little boy but he probably had been dropped while in the vase.
"Probably," Feng nodded at this, "I do believe that."
All the while she mouthed to Rose 'later'. She would rather not Ecthelion over hear because that would deal with a lot unpleasant questions and truths. In fact perhaps Naida should sit out on that conversation as well.
It made Feng wondered what would have happened if Celebor had introduced his family to the rest of the family earlier.

"That's silly," Ecthelion mumbled as he moved to walk with his mother again. "Everybody can be strong. Ada always says, I'm as strong as I believe I can be."
He smiled up at Feng. "So someday, I'm gonna be just as strong as my ada!" he beamed proudly. "Stronger'n anyone there is!"
Rose smiled at her son and picked him up again, but she didn't say anything. Though she was very curious to know what was going on now.
"Shall we continue?" she suggested. "We might have missed Adonijah by this time, but at least we can see the others."
