"It's up to me?" Alek frowned before looking at the beaver's face. "What do you say little guy? Dinner or freedom?" The animal tried to bite his hand again and Alek laughed before letting it slip free. "Oh, well. We'll be fine without it." He commented as the beaver gave one last look at them before slipping off into the bushes.
Giving a chuckle Alek looked to Ashierra. "If I felt up to traveling with wild animals for pets, I would've kept it for you. But if you ever really want one, just let me know." He grinned lightly before looking around with a soft sigh. "So now what?"

Chuckling softly at her own silliness and Alek's tolerance of her momentary mental lapse, she shook her head. "I guess we should look for something else to-" Her head snapped around to look to the side, eyes wide and alert at the sound of a high-pitched shriek. The source of the hollering was blocked by tall grasses. Her fur stood up, a trickle of fire instinctively falling down her arms defensively. She didn't like an enemy she couldn't see. The next sounds to reach her ears confused her though, making her stand up from her crouch to try to see who was making the racket. Was that...?
"You're so mean! You're so meeeeeeeeaaaaan!" A voice pierced the previous silence, followed by loud sobs and paws stomping the ground in a tantrum.
"Don't be a baby! I didn't mean it like dat!" Another voice followed, clearly irritated. "We get him out soon!"

"Something...?" Alek frowned as he listened to the shrieks. What on earth? Was it an attack? Bandits maybe? Nagas? Beasts? Frowning he peered through the grasses and stumbled back as the voices rang clear in his mind already forming images.
Oh no. Anything but that.
"Children." Alek looked at Ashierra helplessly before trying his best to sneak back the way they had came. Away from the crying children. "Hurry Ashierra before they ca-"
"Hey!" An amber gaze studied the adult strangers as a little cattaur girl yelled, "Guys! Helps 'ere!" She gave Alek and Ashierra her best pleading smile, "We needs help please."

Ashierra let her flames die down when realization hit. She looked over at Alek, surprised by his reaction. Sure, kids were annoying, but were they something to fear so much? But, he was right to be backing away. They were probably fighting over something silly like cheating during catch. No reason to get a headache over something like that. No sooner had she started to turn away though, than the small cattaur caught her eye. Had she herself ever been that size? “Well, er-” She looked at Alek again, then down at the kid with a sigh. She didn’t want to be bothered with this, and the male seemed quite uncomfortable. “We’re rather busy at the moment…”
The bearer of the first voice came wailing through the grass, a little blur of yellow and brown that froze at the sight of the adults. The little centaur burst into a smile at the thought of salvation. Adults! Surely they would fix everything, like mommy and daddy would! Then, hearing others come up behind her, she remembered why she had been crying and bolted for the biggest and strongest looking of the two. Alek. “He’s so meeeeeeeaaaaaaan!” She sobbed into his leg, hiccupping and looking over her shoulder at the offending party, her bright smile replaced by a red, wrinkled face.
Soon enough, another centaur similar in appearance to the crying girl but a little larger pushed into the area. He too froze at the sight of the cattaurs, but had a much different reaction than his sister. “Christaaaah! Come here! Those are strangers, Chrsitah!” He yelled in irritation and worry, stomping a hoof and making the girl cry even louder.

If Alek had a list of things that made him weak or uncomfortable children would be at the top. He never understood how to handle them - one minute they'd be laughing, the next fighting, and then crying! Never any order to them, and the things that children could get into when your back was turned for just a second! Oh boy.
And here was the crying. Alek froze in horror as the girl clutched his leg before taking a deep breath. Looked like they were stuck in this. Maybe it wasn't anything bad. Just something that they could get out of the way and then flee from - easily.
Awkwardly Alek patted the girl's shoulder before giving her older brother a look, "Why is she so upset?" He asked softly.
"Cuz he's in a hole." Stated the small cream and orange cattaur girl, "We too small ta get him out. But you two are adults." She crossed her dark arms and nodded, "Ya have ta get him out." She gave Ashierra and Alek a final look, "Else he dead meat."

Ashierra frowned, wincing at the child's screaming. did they all make so much noise? Sure, it had been a while since her last encounter with children, but had it been this bad? Not like a war was happening. She focused on the only child making even a little sense yet. "In a hole? A friend of yours?" She glanced at Alek, frowned, and took a step away. He could handle the crying kid. He was doing so well already, patting her shoulder like that! "I'm sure we can help get him loose."
the boy rolled his eyes as his sister wailed louder yet at their friend's 'dead meat' comment. "Stop crying Christa! You're just overreacting 'cause he's your boyfriend." He stuck out his tongue. "I only said he might be stuck there for a long time and you're crying for nothing."
"No he's not!" The little girl wiped her face on Alek's leg before turning to look over her shoulder at her brother again. "You said dat to scarwe him, an' me! He scarwed as it is! You're so mean teasing him when he stuck!" She stuck her tongue out as well, stomping a hoof and moving to hide behind Alek's leg. "You just jeawous 'cause he gonna have antlers an' you won't!"
Ashierra's head was spinning. These two were going to be the town gossip sources when they got old enough, for sure. She held out her hands. "All right you two. Lets go get your friend first."

"Yup. He's in dat hole down 'ere!" The little cattaur girl repeated this time further away in the weeds. How she managed to move so quickly was beyond Alek. Early magic maybe?
"Ye-yeah." Alek felt a shiver going down his spine in a bad feeling that only got more uncomfortable when the crying girl - Christa was it?- wiped her face on his leg. The male grimaced, he was definitely going to get a good wash later.
That bottled up feeling only got worse when both of the siblings started arguing again. Maybe just maybe if they weren't so loud about it - then he wouldn't have lost it.
"WILL YOU STOP?" Alek called out sharply. His tail struck against the ground as he repressed the urge to outright roar and yell. Flushing lightly the cattaur raked his hand through his hair and took a deep breath. "Just- take us to your friend and we'll...help." He gave a sheepish look to Ashierra before looking down at the children.

Ashierra flipped her ears back when Alek shouted. Seeing the face of the little centaur girl change, she quickly followed after the cattaur child. "Come on, lets go get your friend out." She glanced back at Alek before hurrying after the little girl. She wanted no part in what was about to come with the centaurs.
The boy looked up in surprise at Alek, then smirked and sneered at his sister. "See? You're even annoying the adults. Stop being such a baby."
The little girl froze, looking up at Alek with the largest eyes ever. Her already pink face turned red, and then a little purple. Her eyes squished and her face wrinkled. Her head sunk between her shoulders and a soft whimper slipped out. At her brother's words, her mouth opened wide and she started screaming as though someone had just cut off her arm, clinging apologetically to Alek's leg, which by now was as wet as her face with tears, and probably a bit of snot too.

"Kay." The little cattaur girl nodded at Ashierra before jumping away into taller grasses and running down hill.
"Hey now." Alek gave a stern stare to the boy, "Leave your sister alone." His tail lashed out before he realized that Ashierra had already gone on ahead. For some reason he felt that she was in a hurry? But why-
Oh no.
Alek's eyes widened as he looked down at the little girl. "Plea-Please don't cry! Your brother was just teasing you and I- I didn't mean to yell, really." After another awkward moment of patting the girl's shoulder the male just scooped her up in his arms. "Oh, it's okay." He tried to purr, "We'll get your friend out, just - just calm down okay?" Please, Please just calm down.
Suddenly he missed the older threats. It really was a lot easier to be able to punch your problem in the face. Repeatedly. Children however...they were a completely different story. "You." Alek gave a stare to the boy, "Lead the way to your friend."

Ashierra flicked her ears hearing the girl's cry. Good thing she had gotten away when she had. She pushed through the grasses, hearing a gentle chatter of soft voices ahead. Rounding a tree, she saw another couple kids staring at the rear end of a centaur sticking out of the ground, the feet laying limply on the ground having given up kicking a while ago. "Oh dear." She muttered, padding over to the stuck child. "Can he hear us?"
The boy rolled his eyes at Alek and shrugged, unaffected by his sisters tears. "She should stop crying then." He grumbled, turning tail and heading after Ashierra and the other child.
The little girl shrieked until Alek picked her up, hiccuping so hard that her shoulders shook. Snuggling against Alek's chest, leaving more trails of tears and snot on him, her cries softened and became a steady run of hiccups and sniffles as she buried her face against his neck. She murmured something unintelligible, clinging desperately for comfort.

"I dunno." The cattuar girl shrugged before looking towards the centaur's rear and after cupping her hands around her mouth yelled, "Hey! Hey! Can ya hear us?! HELP IS HERE!"
Alek swallowed the growl in his throat before starting to follow the boy with the girl still in his arms. "It's okay." He repeated while letting her cling to him. Though really, seriously...why him?
"Will ya hurry up?" The cattaur girl looked at Alek and pointed, "They're all the way over there. You so silleh jus' standing there wit her." She stared at Christa and rolled her eyes, "Christa, you slowin' down the adult! Don't cha want to save our fwiend?"
Blinking Alek just stared. Hadn't this girl just left with Ashierra? Shaking his head the cattaur started to walk towards the group again.

The short tail of the stuck boy perked up when the little girl yelled. Muffled shouting came through the dirt, but no one could understand it.
The boy broke through ahead of Alek, unable to not laugh when the stuck child gave a few weak kicks at the ground. "What a dork." Receiving a burning look from the adult female, he took a step back nervously. While the adult male was trying to sooth his dumb sister and couldn't yell, the female didn't have anything holding her back. He would give the stuck boy a good teasing when freed. ...but after the adults had left.
About as used to children as Alek was, Ashierra didn't mind giving the bratty boy a death glare as long as it got him to shut up. Attention back on the boy in the hole, she gave him a curtosy tug. Yep, he was stuck. She could use her earth magic... but... she wasn't very good at it yet. She'd probably do more harm than good in this case. Probably cave the poor thing in. Sighing, she started digging around the boy's body with her hands, using the heat of her magic to make the dirt easier to crumble apart.
The little girl immediately perked her ears at her friend's scolding. "I-wanna-save-'im-but-Ryan-is-mean-an'-was-teasin'-an'-got-dis-guy-mad-an'-eve'yone-was-yellin'-an'-makin'-me-scared!" She whined, wiping her eyes and face with both hands. She looked at Alek with pleading watery eyes, sniffling loudly. "We hasta save 'im! I sorry! Pwease hurry!"

Giving a slight growl at the boy, the other cattaur girl started digging alongside Ashierra as much as she could. "I try an' help ya, miss!" Her little hands barely broke the surface though even as a spark of magic tried to help.
"Alright, I'm going!" Alek ran to the area and when he saw what Ashierra was doing the male placed the girl on the ground. "Stay here so I can help your friend." With that he joined Ashierra and only paused to give a stunned look at the cattaur girl that was helping them. How had she? Wasn't she just over...oh boy.

Feeling himself being dug out, the stuck boy stiffened up, trying to be as still as possible. Ashierra looked down at the little cattaur helping and gave her a smile. "Thanks." So, not all kids were so bad. How deep had the kid gotten himself?! Well, maybe some kids weren't bad. Just a little.... unable to think. She looked up when Alek's paws reached her vision, frowning at the confused look on his face. "What is it?"
All too amused by it all the boy Ryan leaned over to his sister, unable to help himself. "You know what this means? You have a crush on a ostrich. You're in love with a biiiiiiird! And when they pull him out he'll just jump back in, 'cause that's what ostriches do."
Watching the rescue with wide eyes, Crista nodded to Alek, promising to stay put. At her brother's taunting, she started throwing rocks at him. "Mommy says dat daddy made up oskritches! Dey just imagination of sailors like 'im! You so meeeeeeeeean!"

"Welcome." The cattaur girl gave Ashierra a small smile before digging even harder than before.
Alek started digging and only paused as Ashierra asked him the question, "No-nothing really. It's just that -" He paused and lowered his voice to a whisper, "You sure that one cattaur girl doesn't have like transportation magic? She's popping up everywhere I look!"
"You two stops it!" Amber eyes flared angrily as the girl who had walked with Alek turned on the siblings. "Me and my sista get alongs good why can't you?" Shaking her head she pointed to Alek and Ashierra, "If we's pull on him then he can come out by now! I'm sure of it!" Nodding she dragged the two siblings after her and got on the other side of poor Alek who was too focused on digging now to realize that he had identical twins, one on each side of the hole.
