Gran Torino: 10/10 I love this movie, even though Clint Eastwood is batshit insane. All I have to say is... God damn it.crying

The last movie I watched was one my roommate had on all night, which was the first Harry Potter movie.
7/10- intro to the magical realm of this series was quite nice, but it kind makes me wonder how the original Dumbledore would have done if he didn't pass away.

Moonrise Kingdom - 8/10 Cute, quirky movie with a stellar cast. I'm a sucker for Wes Anderson movies.
The Dictator - 6.5/10 A solid, idiotic Sasha Baron Cohen movie. I laughed a couple of times, but if you've seen one of his movies, you've seen most of these gags before.
Jeff, Who Lives at Home - 8/10 Not what I was expecting, considering the cast. I laughed a couple of times, but it was pretty serious. Surprisingly good. Also, I feel better about still living at home now XD
@Saiken: As an aside...some people believe Elvis is still alive. People like to believe in stupid s**t, even though there's no way it's true. That being said, I loved the animated Anastasia movie, even if the premise is totes retarded. And I have the soundtrack...because I love all of the songs...I love musicals.

Well, when the movie came out, at least it had the excuse of not knowing. As I said, she was found in 2007 (and the date of death was the same as all of the rest) and that movie came out ten years before that. But what should be common sense now isn't! gonk I dunno much about the whole conspiracy with Elvis, but I suppose given the time, people could be suspicious because there wasn't many sources like now; we have tons of TV news channels and the internet and the radio stations play news. Back then, there were few TV channels and then radios. Still doesn't justify it, but it makes sense.
But you know, even if Anastasia survived, she'd be dead by now anyways. She was born in 1901 and it's doubtful she would be able to live to even twenty years ago (when that film was made) in the first place. That's what annoys me the most; that people think she's STILL alive and is 110+ years old. emotion_eyebrow

The Possession: 4/10 This movie sucked. Didn't feel like a movie at times because the awkward transitions from scene to scene. Probably will be out on tv in about 1 1/2 to 2 years from now.
Snow White and the Huntsman: 8/10 I was surprised that this wasn't actually bad. I mean Kirsten Stewart showed some emotion. surprised The movie plot isn't anything too special. Elements of the actual Snow White were in this film. i.e. apple, dwarves
Cabin in the Woods: 6/10 I was expecting this to be good. I've only heard good things about this and from the trailer and movie poster, I assumed it would be a horror. I was partly correct. It's more of a thriller than a horror movie.
well once they established that everything that was going on in the cabin would be controlled, it killed the movie for me atleast and killed any chance of it being scary.
Not really worth checking out imo.
Rock of Ages: 7.5/10 Musical consisting of famous 80s rock music and boy they chose a great song list to have in this movie. Idk but I really dig Julianne Hough.
Contact - 9/10 Words cannot describe how utterly amazing this movie is. It was based off of Carl Sagan's science fiction novel of the same title, though I have never read the book so I really had no idea what it was about when I watched it. From what I heard from my father, there are a few differences. Like the main character, Ellie, not being so "whiny" in the book (I didn't find her whiny, though?), and the fact that Ellie's mother did not die after childbirth and she remarried when Ellie's father died. The graphics are stellar for an old movie. The characters, while some of them annoyed or angered me, were perfect. Even better, the ending wasn't exactly the cheesy, cliched ending that always seems to happen in movies, though I'm not totally pleased with it.
I don't know why she got with that guy who asked her that bullshit question about "believing in God" during the panel, when that question was what got her to lose the stupid nomination in the first place... I'd have slapped him when he kissed her, if I were her.
This movie also made me reflect on how the US really needs to stop bringing religion into places it doesn't belong. It made me angry when they asked her that question, and even angrier when she lost the nomination to go to Vega because of it and some religious guy got it and said that "We need to represent our beliefs!!!" Oh well. At least when the religious terrorist dude bombed the first transporter, it allowed Ellie to have the nomination. It was a good thing that crazy old guy knew of another one!
Grave Encounters: 2/10 Not even scary. So, so predictable, it was almost sad. Also, films that are made to look like "it was real and somebody recorded it" are really lame. Not sure why I bothered to watch after I looked it up.
Grave Encounters 2: 3/10 Again, not scary, overtly predictable, stupid "IT WAS REAL AND SOMEBODY RECORDED IT" gunk. However, the plot was a bit different this time, and it really could've had more potential if it wasn't all a "live-action recording." I swear, horror movies keep getting dumber and dumber...

ESPN 30for30 Documentary - "Benji" : 10/10
It's about high school senior Benjamin "Ben" Wilson who in 1984 was ranked the #1 high school basketball player in the nation. On the eve of his senior season, he was shot in an altercation and killed.
If you are a sport's fan, definitely check out ANY 30for30 documentary as ESPN has done a fantastic job making documentaries on sports stories that are not very known to the public that have impacted sports and the lives of many people.
ESPN 30for30 Documentary - "Broke" : 10/10
A documentary featuring various current and former athletes who talked about living on top of the world one moment and filing for bankruptcy the next.
People tend to forget the other side of being an athlete making potentially millions of dollars and how a lot of the money gets allocated to taxes and other obligations. Also mismanagement of money seeing how tons of rookies come into various professional sports leagues not mature enough to handle money.
Great documentary which shed light on such issues.
Django Unchained: 10/10 This was my first Quentin Tarantino movie. biggrin
I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY DR. SCHULTZ DIDN'T JUST SWALLOW HIS PRIDE AND SHAKE CANDIE'S HAND, FOR GOD'S SAKE. C'MON MAN, I KNOW CANDIE IS A JERK BUT WHY'D YOU HAVE TO GO SHOOT HIM AND DIE? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?crying I mean seriously, all that death and blood and stuff could've been avoided and he could've gone on his merry little way if he wouldn't have done that.
Two Mules for Sister Sara: 9/10
Did it really need a "Hero Gets the Girl" ending? I would've liked it better if she were just a nun.

Undercover Brother: 8/10 Pretty much a comedy about blacks and whites. Pretty funny stuff. Though the whole story was kind of dumb.
If you think Django had a lot of gore Shady, check out his other work which i loved. Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2. Gore gore and more gore.
Nah, I don't hate gore... although that blood looked more like paint to be honest. It just escalated really quickly and could've totally been avoided. xd

Upstream Color - 8/10 Super artsy movie from the creator of Primer. It was good. I think. It left me feeling strange. The movie looked great, and the plot was vague enough to make up for any holes. Also, it had a happy ending.
Les Miserables - 6/10 Uh...I would rather watch Sweeney Todd. It was pretty to look at, and the music was good. I just didn't feel it. Go read the book, or watch one of the many other film versions of this story, or better yet, see a theatrical stage performance.
The Woman in Black - 6/10 I think someone in here had said they didn't like it...I'm with you after actually watching it. Lots of predictable "scares" and a shitty ending. Well shot though.

Thor 2 - 8/10
As the adage goes, nothing can top the original and in some ways, it applies to this sequel. Not bad by any means but it didn't live up to the hype that I had for it when I saw the previews. Did enjoy Loki's performance in this movie and the humor that was presented in this installment but it did feel like filler for the next Avengers movie, even if that's like 2 years away. Worth watching if you're a fan of Marvel! or someone looking to enjoy a good 2 hours of Thor goodness

Olympus has Fallen - 7.5/10
Pretty good action movie. I'm a Gerard Butler fan so that helps. The scenario of how the Koreans would infiltrate the White House was pretty unrealistic in that it made it seem like the U.S., owners of the most technologically advanced and special trained armed forces, couldn't even muster an offense against some underground terror group. Full of cliches as well but I did like the action scenes within the movie. I've yet to see White House Down but i've heard that this is the better of the two take over movies.
