The silence that followed Nye's question probably answered it. Ivie had picked up a teaspoon to stir in the honey that had settled to the bottom of her cup and it was really very interesting. Oh yes, far more interesting than Nye's question, deffinately. The silence stretched out into a minute, a minute and a half, and before long Ivie felt compelled to answer, since Nye didn't seem to be letting it go.
"Well, I do..." She mumbled, refusing to look up at him. "But that's not why I told her off...you don't deserve to have 'abuse' on your reputation..."

While Ivie occupied herself with her tea, Nye simply sipped at his beverage and waited. It took her a little while, but in the end, yes, she did answer, and rather predictably. It made Nye smile slightly. "Don't feel like you owe me, that's the worst thing you can do for me. But thank you, really. I appreciated that."
Nye went back to busying himself with his drink until, a few moments later, a bubbly dark-haired waitress brought the two their food, plainly oblivious as to why Cassandra traded tables with her. How sad.

"It was nothing." Nothing that Nye could say would really convince Ivie that she didn't owe him. I mean, really. He'd let her stay over, dealt with Butch three times already and looked after her, which was more than most people would do for someone in the first year of knowing them, let alone the first month. So she'd keep doing things for him and hopefully he wouldn't notice too much.
Their meal was eaten rather quietly, neither of them feeling up to conversation aside from their routine swapping of meals. True to her predictions, Ivie only finished half of her small-size pizza before she began to feel ill, and offered the rest to Nye. By the time both of them sat back it was touching on three pm. A pending feeling of 'what do we do now' seemed to loom large.

As Nye looked at their check, he decided to take it easy on her and actually, you know, let her pay for herself. "It's about fifteen on your side, without tip," he said as he placed an equal amount of money into the little sleeve before sliding it over to her.
Once more, he leaned back in his chair and assumed the Thinker pose. They had a whooole day ahead of them and nothing planned. Where did girls like to go?
"Heey, d'you wanna go to the zoo?"

Having been poking the reamains of her pizza around with her fork, Ivie glanced up when the bill arrived, reaching for her hand-bag. Her wallet - green and brown, like most things she owned - was found and a ten and a five placed down, with two-dollars tip. Best not to ruffle the feathers, after all.
Busy struggling with the zip on her bag, she missed the thinker pose and looked surprised at Nye's suggestion. Surprised, but delighted. "The Zoo? Really? Oh, if you don't mind, I'd love to!"
It seemed Nye'd cottoned onto a good thing. Ivie loved the zoo and was up and out of her seat faster than she'd done anything today.

Nye didn't really cotton on. He was more of a lucky son of a gun, and not much more than that. Clever, yes, but Ivie never really gave him much to work with in the first place.
With a smug smile plastered on to his face, Nye stood from the booth, grabbed his coat, and hightailed it for his car.
The road to the Zoo, although a bit bumpy, was not very long or tedious. Nye made small talk while the radio played some boppy stuff, and before he knew it, they were in the parking lot. Nye considered the wintertime/early spring to be the best time to visit the Zoo. There weren't too many other people there, ever, the exhibits were warm, but not too warm, and by god, the cocoa in the cafe was divine.
As he helped Ivie out of the car and walked over to the ticket kiosk, Nye's face remained unchanged but his mind was brewing plans quicker than anyone could catch on.
It was time.

So Ivie didn't really let on much about herself, what can I say. No-one's ever really been interested before so she didn't tend to talk about it. Leaving Cassie behind, along with their impending trip to the zoo, seemed to have cheered the red-head up immensely and she happily chatted back as they trundled along, even letting Nye help her out.
Like a little kid, Ivie trotted in before Nye and looked at all the tickets. Gods, so many choices! Still, they'd missed the majority of the special exhibits for the day and you could pay as you went, so it only made sense to get...:
"Two basic afternoon passes, please." She chirped to the sales-person as Nye approached, wondering if she could pay for both of them before he got here to protest. She had the money ready and everything!

Nye didn't have to protest. Her eagerness almost gave her away in his eyes, even if the let's-pay-for-Nye scheme was last minute. Quietly, he snuck up beside Ivie and laid down his half the money before she could even bother. Being a frequent visitor to the zoo really did help sometimes.
"Can we have a pair of maps, too?"

Aw, plan foiled. Pouting ever so slightly, Ivie set down half of what she was going to pay and accepted both the tickets as the ticket-seller passed the maps to Nye. They were let in, no ques at this hour, and Ivie almsot bounded into the park-like grounds, admiring the shrubbery that had been clipped into something resembling an elephant.
"Oh, oh, may we see the giant avery?" She asked, eyes almost shining. Ivie did love her birds. Then her face fell a little. She hadn't been here since her last school excursion. "Do they still have the avery?"

Nye walked in shortly after her, map already open. He was very partial to birds himself, and was prompt in looking for the avery. "Uhm, yeah! It's right past the giraffe exibit, which is a little farther ahead of us," he said. The map was folded, both of them stuffed neatly into his pocket along with his hands, and he was set to walk.
Past the giraffe exibit, and to the avery. The ideas were just flying across his brain.

"Ooh, so it didn't move!" Hey, things could in ten years or so. Tugging her coat tighter around her - the wind was beginning to pick up - Ivie's arms wrapped around her own middle as she set off in the right direction, following the little arrow signs to the giraffes. She was going to pass them at first, wanting to get into the considerably warmer building, when she stopped, her arms unwrapping and pressing against the railing to peer at the gangly creatures. A baby stood huddled between it's parents, all legs and neck, and Ivie had to smile.
"Too cute..."

Any time Nye looked at a baby giraffe, he immediately thought of the Lion King opening sequence. Probably one of his favorite movies from his early years, that one was. He couldn't help but smile as well, although perhaps more so for the hearing the Circle of Life in his head than thinking the baby was too cute.
It was cute, but Nye was a guy. Come on now.
It was getting hard to wait to execute his flawless plan, but Nye waited patiently. Didn't wanna come off too strong, now did he? "I'd love to be a giraffe."

Quite frankly, Ivie wouldn't have thought any less of Nye for saying the giraffe was cute. I mean really, the man was a hairdresser and had a pink ice-cube tray, his manliness rankings were already down the gurgler. Whatever devious plans the man was brewing up, Ivie was blissfully unaware of.
"I'm not sure I would." She replied, her arms refinding her middle as the wind began to blow a little harder. "Constantly struggling for life, risk of being tackled and eaten as soon as you show weakness...that and you'd be stuck eating trees all the time, rather than Italian food!"
The animals were starting to feel the temperature too, moving inside their enclosure where the couple couldn't see them. With a little sigh, the hot air steaming in front of her mouth, Ivie shivered. "Shall we?"

Quite frankly, Nye was very proud of his ice cube tray. It was better than the one Zack gave Tim for Christmas, anyways. What a joker that kid was.
"When you put it that way, Ivie, I think I'd prefer to go with being a lion. I'd have a better singing voice that way. Sorta." Analogy gone down the drain. Oh well. He nodded at Ivie once the giraffes were gone, and continued to the avery.
A gust of warm air greeted him as he pulled the door open and held it for Ivie, ushering her in before him. Inside, the rooms were all lit with a level of warm lighting considered "natural" for the various types of birds, and there was no cheesy background music either- the creatures made their own. Nye loved listening to birds, and he'd never be able to tell you why.

As Nye held out the door for her, Ivie gave him an odd look. "Are you making Lion King references, Nye?" She asked playfully, reaching up to pat him on the head as she passed him inside. Oh, but the warmth was nice! The coat was unbuttoned and left to hang straight as she walked past some grouchy looking vultures to peer in at the peacocks. The birds, as usual, were strutting their stuff, the males showing off their gaudy tail feathers despite it being the wrong season for that sort of thing.
"Perhaps we should compare you to one of those instead, mm?" Ivie teased with a grin. "Too colourful, you think?"
