Lore smiled a bit sadly back at Silvrendir as he hugged the boy gently.
"Explaination for some other time," he whispered softly.
It was something he would have a hard time explaining and it was something at the moment that should not be explained in front of other people.

"No," the king shook his head sadly. "No. I should have raised them better. First Riordan ... and then Riordan ..."
He sighed. "Well. Done is done, right? I shouldn't linger on their memories." He tried to smile, but didn't quite make it. "I'm glad you're back, my dear. I'm very glad you're back."
He kissed Elnara on the forehead and hugged her again, calmly this time.
Earendil laughed at Lin and tossed her up into the air and then caught her again.
"Maybe he will," he agreed, his eyes sparkling. "Maybe he will. He does always seem to have such good ones, doesn't he?"

Elnara hugged her grandfather back tightly and smiled worriedly. "I'll be here for a while, Neko," she whispered to him. "So please ... try to cheer up."
She released him and took a step back, then looked around the room. "Perhaps if you were to work somewhere else," she suggested hesitantly, "it might help you a bit ... help to keep you from constantly thinking ... about them ..."
Not to mention, he should probably also work where there was someone else so that he would have someone to talk to, someone to keep his thoughts away from where they shouldn't be, so that he wouldn't be so depressed ...
Silvrendir hugged Lore back and nodded to him, smiling his understanding. Then he leaned close to Lore's ear and whispered, "When I get bigger and Nineko isn't sad, right?" He settled back into Lore's arms and smiled brightly at him.

"Whee!" Lin cried out, not at all afraid of heights, though if she was she wouldn't have been able to get around as well as she did, "He does, and there's a lot to know," she agreed.
There always seemed to be something to knwo, or to learn about, but that was the way history and storytelling was.

"That's right," Lore murmured with a odd.
If Silvrendir still wanted to know when he was older, then he would tell him. Unless of course Silvrendir figured it out before then. Who knew?

"Yes, I should, I know," Reave frowned, "but it's cooler down here."
He sighed. "Yes, yes, no excuse, I know. Your grandmother reminds me of that fact every single day. There's just ... something about this room ... I can't bring myself to work anywhere else anymore." He shrugged.
Earendil laughed and tossed Lin up again. "Thirty-some-odd thousand years is a long time," he agreed, catching her again. "I know he showed us what the beginning of the world looked like, but I for one am curious about what it was like to live then. What about you?"

Elnara sighed. "Neko," she murmured, "it's best to put these things behind you. Look for what's happy. Look at it this way, you have seven grandsons who all turned out just fine, and I'm perfectly happy - beyond happy, in fact - and Aunt Amalthea's doing just fine, and Nako's doing all right with the kingdom ..."
Silvrendir was confused again. What were all the thing she was talking about? He looked at Lore curiously once again.

"Well... I guess I want to know is why things turn out like that, like...." Lin paused for a moment.
Not because she didn't know what to say or what she wanted to know but these were big things coming from such a tiny girl.
"There's another world, like yours and like Gaia, it doesn't have a name but everyone calls it the Second world, because that's where we come from and that's what we are. I wonder if one day that will be like here!"
She nodded thinking about that.
"It has day and night, I guess it has weather, but it never rains even though the grass is always green. It's never too hot or too cold," she shook her head, "There's no snow and only a breeze. It's like... always the same! Like someone pressed stop and said that's the way it's always going to be!"

Lore leaned forward a bit so not to distrub the two talking, "Your mother is talking about counting your blessings, telling him of all the good things that are going on around him."
He was sure that was something Silvrendir could understand and that was also a good lesson for the little boy as well. Even if he was too young to understand the full potential of counting one's blessings.

"Pressed stop?" Earendil repeated, confused by the phrase. He had never heard it before, but he thought he could guess at its meaning.
"Well, from what I know - which, mind you, isn't a lot - there was no sun, no moon, no rain, no weather of any sort during the First Age," he told Lin. "SIr Valdemar would be able to tell you more, though."
Considering he had lived through it.
Reave smiled and put one hand on Elnara's shoulder. "Yes," he murmured, "you're right, of course. Forgive an old man his sorrows." He squeezed her shoulder tightly, then looked over at the others. "Well," he said, a bit more brightly now, "dinner should be any time, why don't we all go wash up a bit, hm?"

Elnara smiled at her grandfather and hugged Idhril tighter again before turning to take Lore's hand and lead him back out of the room.
"Sorry about that," she murmured softly to him. "I had no idea ... that anything like this would have happened."
And despite her grandfather's words, she was still worried about him.

"I remember him telling me that, but I wonder sometimes why things change," Lin explained, "I know the trees disappeared now, but why did people change?"
That was the most difficult part, true there were Seconds that weren't so good, but they weren't ever enough trouble to really hurt someone, but here there always seemed to be people strong enough to be a problem.

"You were worried," Lore murmured, "You had to say something, but at least for a small while things should be good. We all should spend time with your grandparents," he suggested, "Since we're missing about five of the other children."
Perhaps having all of Elnara's children there would be up lifting, he wasn't sure how, but he had heard enough of the older humans gushing about their grandchildren to know that there was really something special about having your children's children about.

Earendil shrugged. "I don't know," he admitted. "I mean, I sure wish things were like they were back then as well, but I wouldn't know the first thing to do to change it back, or if it's even possible."
They reached the door of Sir Valdemar's study, which was closed this time, and knocked.

Elnara smiled faintly. "There is that," she agreed. "But if they're all around at dinner ..."
She trailed off, and her eyes grew wide.
"Dinner," she murmured again as if she had just realized something. "I hope the children are all with someone who can let them know that it's dinner time, and take them to the Dining Hall ..."
