Melchy cheered when Soloman invited him up to help with the drums and clambered into the proffered spot. He watched as Solo showed Riley how to use the drums, then grabbed the drumstick Soloman gave him and hit the high hat beside him. The cymbal’s light ‘tishhh’ made him giggle, and he hit it again, harder, and tapped the snare while the crash was still reverberating.
“Child services?” Hawkiss echoed, far too loudly, hand going instinctively to the butt of his pistol. “Ye think the brat’s bloody mine?”
Katrina looked up at her first mate’s voice, rolled her eyes, and hurried off up the stairs. Hopefully, nothing bad was happening involving her child. Tilting her head, she looked curiously at Sunny. His manner of dress perplexed her. She was about to say something when Eliot screamed. Any words were lost as she hid a giggle behind her hand.
The emergence of a strange woman with a frighteningly green face made Melchy look up. When Ashley turned her attention to Riley, Melchy made a soft growling noise in the back of his throat, a cat’s sound of warning. His tail poofed a little bit and twitched.

Riley held the stick in her hand for a moment, as if testing the feel of it. Then she hit one of the drum experimentally. After a few moments she had began to try and carry a beat. It was obvious that she was no natural. Her hand, however, jerked to a stop when Ashley came in. She grimaced and while she didn't understand all of the insults she woman shot her way, she understood the tone well enough. "I dress like this cause it's comfortable. At least I don't have to put green stuff on my face to hide how bad it looks," she stuck out her tongue, which seemed to be hanging out of her mouth a lot today.

"Oh! So he's not yours and your trying to kidnap him anyw-" Sunny began at Hawkiss, totally not noticing the pistol until a moment later when Katrina moved past him. "Who are you people!? Hey!! Get outta my house!!" By then he was looking quite freaked out, so he hurried into the apartment.
Eliot was trying to pry Harper off his bass. Harper had some sort of death grip along the neck of the instrument and was laughing his head off as Eliot pryed one finger away at a time.
"You hurt him Eliot an' I'll hurt you more than you ever thought possible." Ashley growled, but her attentions were reverted back to Riley. She smiled and tossed her head a little, "At least you are strong enough to defend yourself, I guess. Still, it's a shame..." Her eyes went to Melchy and stayed briefly.
"Shut up Ashley! You don't have to worry about him destroying your voice."
"Boo." Ashley declared, in a voice quite unlike the one she was using before. It was a very deep, very loud, very gruff male voice and seemed very strange coming out of her. Then she turned back to her room.
Soloman was totally ignoring everyone else, as any wise person ought to. "Good good!" He encouraged, giggling a bit at Riley when she tried to make something out of it. "It's all about practice dudette. You ain't just born with it." Well, he was, but err...
"Like that clangy noise?" He asked Melchy.

Hawkiss blinked at Sunny's odd assumption, wondering briefly how Sunny could think that Melchy wasn't his. The kid had sworn like the sailor he was, after all (although Katrina had inadvertently taught him that one) and there were only two sailors in the area...and both of them were looking at the same apartment. "Idiot," he mumbled as Sunny dashed into the apartment. Katrina came to stand beside him and leaned against the wall.
"Well that obviously went swimmingly," she said, then stalked over to glance into the apartment. Hawkiss growled.
Melchy watched Ashley and Riley's banter with a stony expression, but he smiled when Riley appeared to best the older woman. Solo’s question made him look up, and he nodded before following Riley’s lead and hitting the snare drum in something that may have been rhythm. About a hundred percent less coordinated than Riley, his attempt was infinitely weaker.

Riley grinned rogueishly as the older woman finally left. That's right! No adult was going to talk to her like that. Even if she still didn't understand most of what had been implied by Ashley's comments. She quickly focused back on her "beat" which wasn't even one most of the time, but whatever. She was enjoying herself, for the most part.
Mikael sighed and drifted over to the bottom of the stairs, finally deciding to care a little what happened to his sister. "'Ey Riley! If you break anything, I'm not paying for it!" Or, caring about his finances anyway.

Sunny went straight for Eliot, helping him pry Harper off the instrument. It was much easier that way; both got one arm and one leg so he was eventually suspended in the air between the two men.
"HA! You are soooo getting locked in your room!" Eliot declared.
Harper gave a miserable wave at Riley and Melchy as he was carted to his room, only for a woman's voice to scream, "DON'T YOU DARE ELIOT!" From one of the rooms. Needless to say, after Eliot slammed Harper's door shut with him in it, he was off to the room the voice came from and some nearly incomprehensible screaming fit ensued, leaving Sunny and Solo to stare at their guests.
"Maybe it aint the best time dudes. Come whenever you want though, I'm always lookin for apprentices." He gave a wink at the two kids. Sunny had his arms crossed and was looking quite indignant.

Melchy blinked as Harper was carted off, glancing at Riley and looking a little bit perplexed. He stopped what he was doing to look at Soloman. Setting the drumstick down, he put his head to one side to consider. He smiled and was about to say something in reply when a pair of strong arms encircled his waist. Squalling, he spat and tried to scratch at the hands holding him.
“No you don’t, bucko,” Katrina sang cheerily, shifting her grip and holding him by his wrists so he was swinging and unable to successfully gore her. Looking at Soloman, she inclined her head and smiled wryly. “Hope he wasn’t too much of a hassle.” Swinging the boy up so he was riding on her shoulders and smiling at his squeal of mixed indignance and happiness, she gave a gentle bow and turned to the harassed-looking man standing behind her. “C’mon, Hawkiss,” she said. “Let’s go sign a lease.” Turning to Eliot, she winked and smiled viciously. “Nice to meet you, new neighbor.”
With a wink, she turned and swept out. Melchy turned around to wave at Riley.
Well, it’d been fun while it lasted.
