The stallion cocked his head in surprise. It was a valid question...but of course the mare did not have to share her reasons with him. And though he might wish to know, it likely mattered little in the long run.
"Very well," was all Moltres said as he delicately began the descent, pausing every few steps to note Kindle's progress and proximity to himself.

Attempting to keep her legs from growing wobbly, the mare gently eased her hooves down onto the rocky slope, one step at a time. She cursed the fact she could hardly see the ground underneath her hooves, thanks to the blazing fire engulfing her feet, so she took her time descending.
Every once in a while she'd glance up, reassuring herself that the Angeni was still nearby, the warmth of his fire heating up the air around her. It was definitely a comforting feeling and though she never mentioned it, she appreciated it far more than he'd probably realize.
Her orange eyes defiantly looked over to gaze on the ground below her, and her stomach immediately tied itself up in knots, her head spinning. She had come so far, but she was still so HIGH!
One foot slipped and she squealed as she regained her footing, watching a few pebbles bounce off the rocks below.

Moltres took it slowly and carefully. He did not wish to see Kindle slip and fall. Hers was a brave, bold soul and he wanted to watch it grow into its full potential.
So when she slipped, he took flight in an instant, gliding over to stand on the very edge of the path, keeping her from falling.
"I will not let you fall," he told her. "But, catch your breath, restore yourself before we go on."

His nearness was a comfort, and she took a deep breath before relaying her thanks to him. Her eyes closed, she took in a few more deep breaths, and then attempted to scale down the mountain again.
His words were the reassurance to keep her going, and she silently cursed herself for ever coming up with the idea to do such a stupid thing as to crawl up a mountain.
But then again, if she hadn't, she'd have never met her new companion. Fate had a crazy way of working things out, and she was not one to argue. Especially when Fate still had control of her climbing down a gigantic mountain!

The mountainside was tricky footing for both of them, and even Moltres slipped a few times, though this merely startled him into the air. Even so, he was always there when Kindle needed him, whether to keep from falling or merely reassurance.
She was a bright soul. And almost kindred in some ways...those that were much more of fire than of Angeni. He thought of her as...as a younger sister. Yes.
With all the concentration he possessed going into his self-assigned task, the stallion failed to notice when they moved into the foothills and out of the true mountains.

She let out a long exagerated sigh of relief once her hooves met solid ground once again. It was a wonderful feeling, grass and dirt. How she missed it so in that little amount of time she was apart from them. Horses like herself were never meant to scale mountains, and she'd due good to remember that for the future.
Turning back around, she gave her new friend a happy grin, ever so grateful for his help.
"Thank you," she managed to get out finally, letting off a small laugh as she did so. She felt like running now... all the nervousness and worry that had festered within her had escaped, and she was more energetic than ever.
That, and she definitely wanted to tell her parents about this new Angeni breed she'd discovered. How jealous her sisters would be once they got wind of this gossip!

"It was my pleasure," Moltres replied, bowing his head low. The solemn image was spoiled by his mischevious wink, much like any foal who has found a friend to make trouble with.
"And with that, I shall leave you to your own devices," the stallion told her. The limited amount and range of his brief flights along the way down had awakened an itch for true flight in him. He spread his flaming wings wide and took off into the bright blue sky, glorying in the freedom of the open air.
And maybe, just a little, trying to impress the mare. After all, he rationalized, younger sisters, even just in spirit, should look up to their older brothers. Literally up, if necessary.

Kindle grinned wider as she watched him soar up into the sky. He was magnificent, and she had to wonder if all of these 'Angenis' were similar to him in appearance.
She hoped she'd see him again soon. Perhaps when she did, one of her sisters or father would be around, and she could show off her new impressive companion. That, or merely holding another interesting conversation would do.
Feeling yet another energy burst run through her, Kindle took a flying leap and dashed off, eager to feel the wind running through her hair as she made her way back to her family's cave.
