* Maya smiled at at Spirit and took her hand. "I'm Maya," she said. She vaguely noted that Aly had just run off to the bathroom in a rush. But dismissed it, thinking that Aly must really have to go bad. "So...you don't really seem to be enjoying the party," she began, striking up a conversation. "Don't you like to dance?" she asked, looking around. It really was a beautiful scene, like something from a fairy tale. With the ancient ballroom elegantly decorated and the guests magestically dancing, and especially with the atmosphere after Louis was brought up, the whole thing seemed like a eighteenth/nineteeth century party. It disappointed Maya that anyone would be sad at such a party. She turned to her attention back to Spirit, waiting for a response.

xXxTeffy-No-NamexXx xXxAnime_LoverxXx xXxTeffy-No-NamexXx xXxAnime_LoverxXx xXxTeffy-No-NamexXx *Aly smiled politely as Maya made her way to the young girl over at the end. Just as Aly had done for the girl next to her and Maya, her eyes roamed over the girl, taking in her characteristics. She worn a darn green forest colour dress that fell to the ground. It was strapless and there was a piece of golden material that matched her eyes nicely. Aly marveled at her eyes for a few minutes. They were golden and she had never witnessed anyone others eyes that were that shade. Her hair hung freely and from time to time it appeared to sweep in front of her face, causing her to push it back into place. After Aly had memorized her features just as she had done for the others, she turned her attention back to the girl next to her, who seemed to be in no ongoing conversation. A thought sprang to her mind when she realized that she had heard a rumour before. She mentally beat herself up for forgetting it so easily at the time she had heard it. All to quickly, Aly remembered the day when she had heard it. The voices and images flashed in her head as if she was reliving the memory now. The sun's rays glittered on the street. Everywhere Aly walked, people would stop and stare, whispering many things. Aly stared back at them, confused and frightened. Was she breaking any rules? she thought nervously. As she went to a fruit stand to buy something edible to eat, she heard a conversation between three people who were huddled close by. They seemed to be the only ones unaware of her staring eyes and even though others tried to disrupt them to warn them of her curious nature, they couldn't be disturbed. They seemed to be speaking of someone by the name of Louis. Wanting to know more, Aly craned her neck, paying the clerk at the stand absentmindly. She took a few steps forward so she could hear better, "Could you believe it?" They had whispered. One of the others seemed not to have heard the rumour and the oldest one, or so it appeared to be, repeated it. There eyes went wide with shock and that was when they had caught sight of Aly...Aly shook her head at the memory, not wanting to relive it any longer. The moments that followed the memory were not pleasant and maybe that was the reason why she hadn't remembered the rumour. It did her no good because she had no clue if it was true or not, but she knew that deep down many people gathered in that dining hall wanted to know more. Her eyes snapped to the girl next to her and she decided to find out what she knew.* "What do you know of Louis?" Aly asked innocently. *Anime recognized the innocence in Aly's voice and took in her expression. Anime thought about the rumor she had heard and then decided that there was a possibility that it was real. Anime thought for a moment and decided that it would be rude of her to tell rumors about a dead person. Before answering Aly she took in the beautiful scenery, people dancing and chatting. This was a beautiful sight, the ballroom was so beautiful. Anime decided to answer Aly, "I just heard that he died thats all I only know as much as we just heard......how about you??" *Aly chuckled softly, knowing that what she was saying was a lie. She was able to easily tell when someone was not telling the truth; after all she needed to be able to tell because of her previous job that she had held for over a year. Humour glinted in her eyes and her face was amused. Noticing that Anime had decided to glance around the ballroom, she did the same. Aly marvelled at the sight, it was indeed beautiful. The way it was decorated and the interior design were not like anything she had seen. Images and memories swirled in her head as she glimpsed around the ballroom, unkindly memories haunting her of her pleasure. You will never amount to anything! You are a worthless and ignorant child! Shut up-leave us alone and go somewhere else, your hideous nature is making me sick. Voices of her childhood spun in her head, giving her a headache. Tears streamed down her face and her hands went up to her head, her hands clutching her hair. Make it stop, she pleaded silently. Soft cries of anguish escaped from her lips and her eyes were closed in pain. She felt as though she was going to be sick and rushed off to the bathroom, not even bothering to excuse herself. Of course later she felt horrible about it, but she could not stand to be there. It was as if her mother was there again, mocking her and making her feel as if she was useless. She could not stand it. Aly let out a low scream, not one that could be heard from the dining hall, but if someone was in the hallway, it would definitely be heard. She collapsed on the hard floor of the bathroom and quietly sobbed, her hands rushing to her face. She felt as though she had when she was younger, an insignificant and worthless child that would be much better off in a desolated place where no one would be bothered by her presence. There she stayed for several minutes, simply crying until her heart was content. After about ten minutes, she got up and went to study her appearance. Her face was ashen grey and her eyes were red and puffy. She quickly fixed her hair and tidied her face as best as she could. After somewhat content with her appearance she made her way to the dining hall, where she took her seat next to Anime. * “I’m terribly sorry for my behaviour,” Aly apologized, “please forgive me. As we were saying, I am sorry but I am as well informed as you are about this Louis person. If only Lady Maurelle would have given us more information. “ *Anime’s eyes wandered over the ballroom noticing everything, the beautiful decorations and the people dancing. She noticed that the ballroom had an heir of mystery about it. It was such an old beautiful room; it must have been hundreds of years old. She wondered if Louis ever danced in the room with someone that he may have loved. Anime quickly brought her attention to Aly who had just run away. I wonder why she left there must be something bothering her……….was it me? When Aly came back about twenty minuets later her face was a bit red and she looked like she had been crying for some time. Anime new that Aly was trying hard to cover it though. “Aly…..are you ok? Do you need to talk about it, If you don’t that’s ok too.” Anime said in a truly concerned voice.* *Aly adverted her eyes in shame. It was obvious that her appearance gave her away- that she had been crying. Tears swelled in her eyes as she reminded herself that she was not to cry, she was a big girl now and she had no reason to, the past was the past. Anime, this young girl next to her was concerned about her and she had never once had anyone concerned about her. She simply went about life trying to prove her mother’s harsh words wrong, that one day she would be someone that would make her mother proud and ashamed for the way she had treated her. She could try and pretend to the young girl next to her that nothing was wrong, that she had simply yawned and the tears started to form, but that would be a lie. If it was one thing her mother had beaten into her, was never tell a lie. Aly laughed harshly at the time when her mother had abused her because she had stolen a cookie from the cookie jar and then told her mother that it had not been her. Her mother threw a fit when she had found out and… Well, they were hard memories for her to recall, they mostly ended with her crying and sore. Aly’s dark eyes looked at Anime warily, as if struggling with something to admit to her everything, to have someone finally know. Finally, she could not hold it back any longer.* “It was my mother,” Aly laughed bitterly, “ She was always abusive to me, and only me. I was the youngest you see, I had an older sister and brother who were very successful in their younger years. Both on the teams that were tried out for at school and they were very popular. Me- well, I was not like them. I didn’t want to follow in their footsteps, they were bitter sweet as you would say. Nice to their friends, and terrible to the others who weren’t. They were fake. My mother always adored them and when I was younger she would always tell me that I was to grow up to be like them, popular and perfect. As the years went by, I started off like them and then decided that it wasn’t right and I quit all the teams that I was on and dumped my so called friends. That threw my mother into her first rage. She began telling me how I was horrible and how stupid I had been, not knowing that potential I had to be like my siblings. I told her that I didn’t want to and from that point on, our relationship as mother and daughter was balancing on the point of a knife. Sure she would get me everything I needed, but that was it. She hardly looked at me and even after everything I tried, she was always ashamed to admit to everyone I was her daughter. Every night she would come in my room and well, lets just remind you that she was abusive. She had told me that she was punishing me for not growing the way she had told me how to. It was when I was thirteen that she finally sent me off on my own, she kicked me out of the house and gave me all but twenty dollars. She told me never to speak to her or see her again. She was disowning me. One night, about a month later, I saw her dancing with my siblings in a very well decorated room. She was twirling and laughing and having a great time and every minute that I watched, I wished I could be in there with her. I still love her as my mother, but until I prove myself worthy of being her daughter, I guess that is how I could say that, she had never been in touch. Seeing the ballroom reminded me of that day and I guess I lost control…I am very sorry to bother you with my story but it is finally good to tell someone. Thank you for listening.” * *Anime listened quietly to the story that Aly was telling her, nodding her head every so often to indicate that she was listening. The story weaved out with tragedy after tragedy. This girl who appeared to be about Anime’s age had gone through so much and yet here she sat next to her. Anime was quite shocked that Aly was willing to tell her the story so willingly, but as she recalled she was quite easy to talk to. Everyone loved to tell their secrets to her well knowing that she would never tell them to anyone else without asking permission. Anime recalled the time when her friends were having a hard time with a situation and she had to keep all of the secrets bottled up for them. Anime looked around for a second at all of the lovely couples dancing and twirling on the dance floor. They looked so happy as if they didn’t have a care in the world. He eyes then wondered to the people around her that seemed to be talking about the mystery that was Louis. They diod not realize that there was a lot more tragic things going on in the world than the gossip that they were consuming themselves in. Anime turned her head back to Aly, “Wow that has to be the most tragic story that I have ever heard! I cannot believe that you now sit next to me. How did you survive on your own? I am so sorry for what happened and if you don’t want to talk about it anymore we don’t have to.”*

I am so sorry for what happened and if you don’t want to talk about it anymore we don’t have to.”* *Aly simply smiled. The smile that lit up her face, however did not reach her eyes. Instead of happiness, anyone who looked at her would be able to see such a sadness that longed for a happier childhood. Instead, she played with the cards that she was dealt and even though for her younger self it did not turn out, right now it was starting to brighten. For the first time in Aly's life someone had sat and listened to her- had talked to her. Anime, a girl around her age that she had just met, had acknowledged her presence, had treated her like a friend. That meant that world to Aly. She wanted to thank her and tell her how much it meant to her, and perhaps in time she would. Right now however, she had to keep a composed face, she would not allow herself to break down again. What she did next was hard for her to do, even though they were painful memories. She recalled all her memories for what she hoped was the last time, and then shut them away in a box. All her memories of her mother and her siblings were gone from her mind, she promised herself that it she could help it, she would not think of those times again. The present and the future was what she had to look forward to now, and it was time that she stopped dwelling on the past. Anime had showed her that. It was time for her to let go and even though the scars- both physically and mentally- may never heal, she would never look at them again in a negative way. But as a time that was once part of her life, a past that was trying to be forgotten. Now when Aly smiled, it did reach her eyes. They shone with a brightness that no one had ever been able to witness before. No more painful memories and Aly could talk about her childhood freely without the tears and the anxiety.* “No, don’t worry,” Aly chuckled, “it may at one time have been hard for me to talk about my past. If you would have asked me half and hour ago I would not be as free as I feel right now. I guess that when I was small I just wanted to grow up into a respectable young lady, someone that made my mother rethink her decision to ‘disown’ me. I grew up just trying to make my self a ‘someone’ and that is how I have been living my life. With determination and some sadness. But that is the past and now I think that I am ready to face the challenges that are in store for me today. Like the Louis case. I want to figure it out, but I know I will need some help. Do you suppose that you and I could work together to try and figure it out?” Aly had been hopeful with this question. She knew that it was unlikely for Anime to agree, but she had still held hope. Anime had treated her as a friend, and if she and Anime could get together, then she was sure that they could figure out the mystery. *

*Anime watched the girl as her face turned from sad to almost over joyed in a matter of a few seconds. Anime noticed that the girl had begun to warm up to her. Aly seemed pleased with the fact that Anime liked to listen to her stories. Anime new that she was a good listener but most people thought that she was a snob because of her outward appearance. Anime was glad to see that Aly had over looked the fact and saw the real her. Anime was quite shocked when Aly got over her bad memories so quickly, anime respecter her for that. She now realized that Aly just needed to know that her story was worth sympathizing over, and that was enough to help her move on. Anime now thought of Aly as a friend because of her kindness toward her. Anime was taken by surprise when Aly seemed to feel the same way. Aly had just asked her to work with her on the mystery! Anime didn’t even have to think of an answer it just came right out, “Of course I will work with you on the mystery of Louis, I would be glad to!”*

Tequila_Crap_Muffin * Maya smiled at at Spirit and took her hand. *Spirit looked around the room; it was indeed a beautiful sight, with so many different colours that seemed to melt into each other and everyone who danced fitted in so perfectly. Everything in here was perfect, so perfect that Spirit didn’t feel that she fit in, compared to the world she had lived in this place seemed like a painting from a fairy tale book, everything and everyone in the picture went together. “Oh no, it is a wonderful party, it just seems so unreal to me is all. Plus I can’t dace, not even if my life depended on it.” Spirit smiled to herself as she remembered the time when her mother had tried so hard to try and teach her to dance, the only thing that came of that was two broken glass bowls and an aching body. Thinking that this was probably the only chance she would get to having a conversation with a person she decided to bring up Louis, “So… what do you think about the story Lady Maurelle told us?” she asked Maya.*

*Maya grabbed Spirit's hand and rushed over to the table where Maya and the other girl sat. Then she realized something. The other girl... Maya suddenly spoke up. "Back," she said cheerfully to Aly, and then turned to the one next to her. "Hello, I don't think we've been introduced. My name's Maya and this is Spirit. Who are you?"

xXxAnime_LoverxXx *Anime watched the girl as her face turned from sad to almost over joyed in a matter of a few seconds. Anime didn’t even have to think of an answer it just came right out, “Of course I will work with you on the mystery of Louis, I would be glad to!”* *Aly's smile brightened her whole face. Her eyes swam with thanfulness and happiness. She was excited to know that she had a new friend that she could confess secrets to. Her whole output on life now had brightened and she could look forward to her future, because whatever happened, she knew she could face. If she was able to face her past, something that had haunted her for her whole life, and then push it out of her mind in a matter of seconds, then she was positive that she could face anything else. She sighed inwardly and relaxed her position slightly, but not much, she didn't want to be seen as a slouch. Her mind was swimming with new ideas, just as Anime had agreed to help her figure out this mystery and she couldn't wait to come to the bottom of it. Her smiled quickly turned into a frown as all the evidence that she had contained swirled in her head- Died- not sure how. Lady Maurelle's information. The clue, the newspaper article. All the evidence did not help coming up with a conclusion. She was not even sure that her clue or rumour that she had heard was even true and if it wasn't, then it was no help at all. The newspaper clipping had been about a body found by a priest, but again, they had never identified the body. It was giving her a headache and she was thankful for Anime's help, for she feared her head would explode if she had to think of it by herself. The one thing that snapped Aly out of the trance she was in, was a fimilar voice. Her eyes snapped open, for they had closed somewhere in all her thinking, and she stared up at Maya and the girl next to her, 'Spirit' she had said her name was. She smiled polietly up at them.* "Hello Maya and Spirit. I'm Aly as Maya stated," she introduced. She turned to Anime to see if she wanted to introduce herself. *

*Spirit smiled at Aly, she seemed very nice, but don’t most people, you never really know by the first impression, she had learned that the hard way. Remembering that know seemed strange, she hadn’t thought of it for such a long time that it caught her off guard. It had been the first time she listen to her mom and went out instead of staying inside to read. After that her mother never bugged her about hanging out with other children again, instead she kept her company and held her as she read. She shook her head, it was no time for a memory cap, besides, thou times were long gone, instead of going on with this thought she turned her attention back on Aly, “It’s very nice to meet you Aly,” she said, trying hard to make her voice come out even.*

She thought long and hard about the clue that she got though and wondered what Aly’s clue was. Anime’s clue said, “Louis had been killed as a string of murders on high society families in the parish by the political opposition wanting to enclose the land,” Anime did not know that it was true or not, only that it was a rumor. Anime’s thoughts were interrupted by a voice so she decided to introduce herself. “Hello there my name is Anime…and yours is?”*

*Spirit than turned to the other girl who had said her name was Anime. Both of the girls looked beautiful in their dresses, even Maya seemed to be perfectly suited for this kind of event. Trying to remember what her mother had tried to teach her she swept her arm in front of her stomach and bowed her head slightly. “It’s a pleasure to meet both of you; my name is Spirit, as Maya said.” It felt extremely wired to talk and move like that, to her it just seemed unnaturally. Why did people have to act like that around each other, all polite and robot, humans make mistakes. That being true she had always wondered why people acted like each question asked had a correct answer and that was what it was to be. She remember after her mother died that she decided that is was just the way people had grew up knowing and they were to scared to try and change their ways, no matter how stupid they seemed, it was almost like a law. She looked at the girls, smiling as best she could, “So how are you enjoying to evening so far?”*

*Aly felt herself stifle a giggle. This girl- Spirit- did not appear to have much social experience. She had bowed very gracefully but, she didn't know that bowing was for the gentleman and courtesying was for the ladies. Aly scolded herself for wanting to laugh and quickly composed her face into a bright smile. Instead of correcting Spirit, which she thought she would do later, she stood up gracefully and bowed back. For anyone other then Maya or Anime, she might have been embarrassed to do it, but did not wish for Spirit to feel uncomfortable. Once she was straightened again, she sank back into her chair and montioned for them to grab a seat. She did not want to seem impolite and continue to sit if others did not. Her mother, even if she was horrible, had taught her manners. With her back straight against the chair, she studied the girls that stood before her. Maya was a beautiful girl with short black hair. She seemed friendly enough from her previous conversation with her. Spirit was different. Indeed she was beautiful, but she was mysterious. The was she stood looked like she was trying her hardest to be friendly. Aly admired her for that. She felt as though she would find herself crawl into a hole then be with strangers who all stared at her with expressionless faces. If it had not been for the fact that Aly had been raised with people, then she would be at home right now. She sighed and gave Spirit one last smile before turning her attention to the scenery in front of her. Whenever she needed to think about something, her family always had teased her about staring into space. It was only when she heard Spirit's question that she had started to think about the people around her. She gave them an apologetic look and nodded.* "Yes, I am having a very nice time. Thank you for asking," Aly enthused, " Are you?"

*Spirit watched amazed as Aly got up and bowed back, did that mean she actually did something right? Probably not, she never did anything right, she blushed slightly at the mistake she made and then quickly sat down when Aly suggested it. Aly seemed to be very proper, she was most likely one of those people who knew all those stupid rules, but never had anyone made a fool of themselves to try and make her seem totally nuts. When Aly asked if she was having a good time she and to stop and think for a moment of what she should say, she should she tell this girl that this night had been a nightmare and she wished that she could just go home and get out of these ridiculous cloths. Of course she couldn’t say that, it would be breaking the rules, right? Instead she said, “Yes, it has been a very interesting experience, I’ll never forget it.” It wasn’t a complete lie, it was true that she would never forget it, “especially with all this buzz about Louis, it seems to have everyone talking.” She had decided to throw that in there, maybe she would actually find something out.*

*Maya watched the awkward exchange between Spirit and Aly. She could tell that they were both kind of bored and embarrassed, and that they would rather be somewhere else. But Maya knew she only had to say one word to liven them all up. "So...," she said, "Louis."
