*Frebird looked a bit confused toward Kipcha* (hopefully I spelled that right I didn't look at it very long) Well it's alright with me, but I wouldent think it was really my decision. *She followed Ghost up the trail, letting Casper ahead of her, and the more she thought about it the more she warmed up to the newcome mare.*

Ghost led his new companions through the forest paths, making sure to pick ones suited for Casper. His senses had automatically doubled when he entered the forest. He was now aware fo everything around him, every sound, smell, and sight. He led them to the mountaintop and stopped. "Well, here we are. We can't see the mares 'til daylight." He looked around his mountain, now more confortable with his surroundings, making him much more easygoing and kind. "Well, this is pretty much where I live most of the time." He saw Casper yawn and chuckled a bit. "Well, you three get some rest...it's been a long day. I'll keep watch." He waited until the mares were settled and then paid attention ot his environment once more.

((Yep you got it right.)) Kipcha walked beside Freebird, keeping one ear on Casper and the other searching for the sounds of the forest. This was one of the mountians that she rarely ventured up, the others she knew inside and out. "That herd of mares isn't anything. No stallion for nearly a year and the youngest are yearlings." She took up a place where she could see a far distance without leaving the others company, but only for a short time. Joining Freebird stood watched Casper. "He's your first?"

*Freebird had always enjoyed forests, but never spent very much time in them. She would take most of her days spent lying lazily on a hill, watching the clouds float along the sky and the ducks sit softly in the water. * Yeah, and I don't think I could have survived with having to raise him without you guys around.*

Ghost snorted. "I know, I haven't seen a alpha male in that herd for ages. I don't want to think what may have happened to him...but the lead mare sure knows how to get things done." Ghost caught scent of something familiar., and immediately honed in on it. He tensed as he recognized it and stood protectively in front of the mares. "Keep your voices down...good call Kipcha, she's coming now for me now. You two get on either side of the colt." He faced the trees before him as he heard the light pad of paws on the ground slowly approaching...

*Freebird panicked, she stood nearly over Casper and could just hardly resist the urge to gallop away as fast as she could.*

Ghost turned one back to Freebird. "It's alright, calm down. I won't let her get to you OR Casper OR Kipcha." He returned his attention to the underbrush as it parted to reveal the female mountain lion, crouching and slinking foward with bred teeth, growling. Ghost stiffened and bared his teeth at the approaching beast. He began pacing back and forth in front of the mares, annihalating any chance for the lion to reach them. "How dare she come onto MY territory for a kill..." he said under his breath.

Kipcha's ears came up, one on the lion the other still pinned on Casper. She took up a place beside Freebird and when the younger mare stepped forward and pushed the colt back, she pushed her back and the colt forward so he was inbetween them. She didn't know this area as well as she hoped so it was best for the colt to stay beside they and not behind, where he could fall into danger. "Stay beside him don't push him behind you. Let Ghost handle it, just be calm. Don't try to run, you'll only draw attention to you and Casper."

Ghost trained one ear on Freebird, sensing her nervousness. "Freebird, listen to Kipcha. She's telling you right, don't run." Ghost flickered his eyes away from the lion for a split second, and in that second, she pounced onto his back. Ghost roared and bucked like a bronco, attempting to fling the beast from his back, but to no avail. He plunged head-first onto the ground, and rolled over, leaving the lion on the ground. He scrambled back up and faced her again as she lept at him once more. He reared up and struck out with his forelegs, pawing straight into the lioness's face, bringing her to the ground. She scrambled up and dashed away before Ghost could drive his front hooves into her body. He kept his head level with his body, teeth bared, as he watched her run back into the forest. He straightened back up when he cpuld hear her no longer. "You two okay? How's Casper" he asked softly, craning his neck around to look at the two mares and the colt. He kept his body faced forward in case the lioness returned suddenly.

*Freebird tried to calm herself by focusing on Casper, who didn't sense as much danger as everyone else did. As the lion was scared away she turned down to see about Casper.* He seems fine.

Kipcha looked at Casper. "We're fine." She stepped away from the colt and mare, she may have never raised a foal herself but she had seen many of the raised and had helped raise many of them. "When you don't know what's behind you keep the colt beside you. In between two horses if you can, it will be safer for him and less for you to watch for." Her ears swilveled about in the darkness searching for any sound, but only finding the lonely hoot of an owl. "Are we to stay here tonight?"

Ghost nodded his head in response to Kipcha. "Yes, this is one of the safest places here. I wouldn't DARE take you down to the plains with the possibility of humans roaming about..." He shook his head, he detested even the word of 'humans'. His eyes welled a bit with tears as his only living nightmare flooded into his head once more..He snorted and shook his head again, sending his mane flopping in all direction. Ghost then turned and looked softly at the two mares and the colt. "You should get some sleep now. That lion won't come back for another attack tonight." He turned his back to them and let his silent tears fall.

Kipcha watched Ghost highly intrested in his behavior. Seeing him turn away she wondered what was going through his mind. She had been on her own for nearly a week and never seen a human. Still curious she stepped forward and gently nuzzled his shoulder. "You ok?" She dropped her voice so that only he could hear.
