((Sizzla, Mirela and Tafari wandered over to aide Irina and her kidlets in my last post - just letting you know in caes you missed it ^^))

Zak stepped out into the sunlight, he had awoken to the swaying of the ship and the cry of an occasional gull. he closed the door of the caravan behind him carefully as not to disturb his hostess and her son.
breathing deep of the salt air then wincing at the pain in his ribs he stepped onto the deck with a solid if slightly limping pace.

Seeing the ocean Zak smiled and walked to the rail to gaze out on the expanse with his good eye, the other still too swollen to be of much use he leaned on the rail and sighed happily as another wave hit the ferry.

I've spent my whole life on land, who was I to know I was born for adventure and the sea? Zak thought to himself as he watched a seal pop up to take a look at the boat.

Elysia Kavanagh

"It reminds me of mine, as well - though perhaps not as happy as yours," Lorelei said, a faint smile on her lips. The pains of her past had been slowly soothed to a manageable level, and she could now talk of it easily.

"... The one who spoke of Vanna and you seeing her before...? That was Fen, I believe. His voice is different from Aleysius's.

"Why?"

"I don't know... it just seemed strange to me. The banyas in the HoneyBlossom always caught the meij, told things that were- fortune based. And if they were referencing... something that was happening currently, it wasn't well known. Why would yours tell you something that we already know?" He was skirting around the question he wanted to ask, wanted to know the answer to.

Taniel Ansterh

Taniel blinked, smiling amiably as the little girl came up to him. Still, her question gave him pause. He was used to it - or at least, looks that asked it - but coming from such a young girl...

And her mother looked more than a little displeased.

Well, it was easy to mistake him. He still painted his lips like he had grown up doing, and his waist was pulled into a pleasing curve... his chest even swelled slightly, from all of his vocal training. No, it was easy to mistake him.

He went down on level with the girl, still smiling. Still, what to tell her...? Not the whole truth. "No, I'm not," he said, gently. Other than that, though, he wasn't sure of what to say. The truth... just not the dirty details of it. "But I'm not a boy, either. I'm sort of in between."

The girl looked back, and seeing that her mother was starting to draw near, leaned in close to Taniel, and whispered conspiritorily, "You look like a doll. You have skin like Eastern ceramic."

Edit

"Setsuz..." the smallest of the group mumbled, "Do you see?"

Setsuz followed Ixlj's eyes, and paled itself. "Hoz Gods. What is that?"

"I don't know, but don't get any closer. ...Sets! What are you doing?"

For Sets had begun to do exactly that: move closer to the bobcat.

Now. Here came the choice. To purr and act like a domestic cat - which worked well with dear Altaira - or to be the wild thing he was and growl? He wasn't sure he liked the thing coming closer.

Just a small growl, ears back and shying away - but not leaving. He wanted to find out what they were but if anyone tried to pick him up he always had tooth n' claw. Of course, his mother would disapprove but she always got him out of scrapes with humanoids. She'd apologise if needs be.

Sets was the only one of the group not to scream at the small growl. Setsuz actually came a step closer. Ixlj called out to Sets.

"For Savior's sake, Sets, don't go any closer! Do you want to die?!"

Sets looked back towards the companions. "I don't think it wants to hurt me. It looks like something I saw in a dream once." The others paled as Sets went ever closer.

Kale grinned. He liked this woman, and he glanced kindly at the smiling lady behind her. The frowning woman, however, he avoided making eye contact with.

"Kale, ma'am," he said to the kneeling woman. "Who are you?"

"My, what a polite little kerl." She chuckled, something that sounded, with her high pitched voice, like a malfunctioning bell. "I am called Grendenla. This is my sister, Algurna," she motioned to the frowning one, "and my friend, Hurwar." She was tall, but not too thin- more compact than anything else, and her skin seemed to be too soft to hold in her muscles. The women behind her were of approximately the same height- Hurwar being slightly shorter and with a more yellowish tinge to her skin. All three women were dressed to kill in well-fitted long tunicsuits of pressed and dyed wool, their feathery hair wrapped into innumerable, well-oiled coils along the base of their neck.

"I'm afraid, my little Kale, I am going to be somewhat rude," Grendenla said, "and ask you what species you are. You are quite a curious little thing, and I don't think I've ever seen someone like you. Are you from the north?"

X-Men Lover
DeArca and Ash immediately looked over to Oqaia and eeped when she looked sickly. "Uh oh, come on, Oq, you'll make a mess if you don't lean over the edge" He asked, leading her over. "Go on, let it out" He asked, rubbing her back for her.

Ash blinked and put a finger to his mouth in wonder of Oqaia's illness. "She's green, Daddy" He giggled some. "Can I be green too?" He asked, jumping with excitement.

Oqaia paled again- this time more for embarassment than sickness. She willed her stomach to be still. It somewhat listened, still churning within her, but no visible reminders of her lunch coming up to greet her wagonmembers.

"No, thank you, DeArca." She smiled thinly, a wan little thing on her pale face. "I'll be alright. Just... getting my sea legs." She gave a smile down to Ash as well.

"How are you two doing?"

Sizzla

Kalpana whippped her head around and nodded furiously, managing to get out a "Yesssssssss mama!" before she pressed her face against the window again, more than a little curious about the new scenery outside.

Eerie didn't even turn around, but kept staring out the window, as quiet as ever. "Pa-leeze?" he asked, already knowing his mother would say yes as he stood up and headed for the door on shaky hooves. He had only gotten used to walking a few weeks ago, when he took his first steps alone. Kal had helped him, holding his hands as he threatened to fall over. Her large feet kept her firmly planted though, and Eerie had managed to walk a few steps before plopping down on his bottom.

"All right then," Irina said, unable to say know to their curious faces. "Let's get going." She stood up, one hand holding her round belly as she did so. She headed for the door, pulling Eerie up into her arms and resting him on her hip, while she let Kal open the door and scamper down the steps and into the cool, salty air. "It'd probably be good for us to get some fresh air," she said, making her way down the steps and onto the deck, looking for some of the other caravan members.

The ferry took a bit of a dip, and one of the fellow passengers- the Corphori, to be exact- tumbled directly into Irina and her brood. He didn't know how hard he'd smacked into her, but in the split-second of the impact, hoped it wans't as bad as he thought.

Before Irina could greet her caravan family, the ferry dipped low in the water, causing her to check her footing. Kal fell to her bottom, still not a professional at walking, and scrambled up again before she saw a man rolling toward them like a bowling ball to pins.

"Mama! Care-fu!" she shouted, trying to warn her mother before something bad happened.

Irina shrieked as the Corphori came tumbling into her and Eerie, and before she knew it, they were a pile on the wooden flooring of the ferry. Eerie crawled out of the mess easily, and headed toward his sister, who helped him stand, and she continued to hold his hands so that he could also get used to the rocking of the ferry.

Irina, checking to make sure she was still intact -- which she was -- looked up at the man who had tumbled into them. "Still haven't got your sea legs, have you?" she asked, chuckling a little. "Mind helping me up? I have some problems with that these days," she said, a twinkle in her eye as she raised a hand for him to pull her up.

Just as she was doing so, she heard a shout from Mirela, who scurried toward them with Tafari. "Oh thank you dear sister. I think we're alright. So far, nothing hurts, so that's a good sign, right?" She smiled at her, offering her her other hand as Mirela reached out to help them up. "Maybe you both could help me..."

The man turned to Mirela first, scrambling up to the deck with his hands out as if he were waiting to be injured for his indiscretion. But when he saw it was only another gypsy, headed to help the woman he'd tumbled, he relaxed visibly, though beads of sweat rolled in raindrop form down his forehead. His apologetic growl of a voice was lined with the guttural Corphori accent.

"I am so... sorry," he said haltingly, "I didn't mean to... oh, and you... children. So many children." He saw the swell of her stomach, and although he offered her his arm, he stepped wide around her stomach, as if being near it would tumble her again. He turned to Mirela, as well. "I so sorry. I so so..." His woolen hat (an ill choice in such hot weather) had remained on his head during the trip, so he now removed it, holding it to his chest and offering his sweat-stained hair as if in another apology. "My name is Rosyoia." It was a deeply growled word, and it sounded almost vicious.

There was a group of people on the deck- and Angelique, emerging from Oqaia's wagon with a frightful little start, headed towards one of the only ones she knew- Baptiste.

"...Baptiste," she said softly, coming up along the group. "Would you... introduce me?" She held back, still wearing the white dress she'd been given, her blonde hair hanging limp in the sun. She wanted to come with them, but was shy.

Irina took the Corphori's arm gratefully as he helped her from the deck. "Thank you sir," she said, only slightly wary of the gruff voice that accompanied the sweaty man. "It's no problem. I know you didn't mean it," she smiled. "And yes, there are quite a few children, aren't there?" she said with a laugh. "They seem to all be okay."

She turned to check on Kal and Eerie, who were now looking curiously at Tafari. They hadn't really met officially yet. Last time they had been close enough to chat, Kal was still an infant, unable to get around on her own, let alone talk.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Rosyoia," Irina said, looking at the woolen hat atop his head. "Have you been on the ferry before?"

As Kal steadied her brother, she let go of one hand, allowing him to do more of the work on his own. She then turned to Tafari and waved cheerfully. "Heywo!" she said, giving him a grin. He was quite interesting looking.

Eerie just stared quietly. He looked down at his own hooved feet, and then to Tafari's. He couldn't help but wonder why his bottom half didn't look like his animal form, like this child's did.

"I would, cherie," he says, smiling at the appearance of Angelique, whom he hadn't seen for many days. "But I have not been introduced to the mademoiselles either. Again he looks to the exotic young women. Names weren't so hard.

Ro glances at Ani, waiting for her to say something. She appears distracted by something else. Shrugging, Ro again takes out her pad and pencil.
I'm Rojiza, and this is Anezka. I'm sorry for not introducing myself. I can't talk. It's nice to meet you. Who's your friend?
Rojiza offers the pad to Baptiste, amazed by the beauty of the white-draped blonde. Even though she looks tired, and like she hadn't seen a comb in weeks, she still holds an unearthly loveliness. Ro tries very hard not to be jealous.

Baptiste takes the pad. "Ah," he says, understanding. "I am enchanted to meet you, ma petitie." He takes Ro's hand and brushes his lips across the back of it, eliciting a small giggle and a blush from the young teen. "Angelique, this charming young woman is called Rojiza, and her companion--" he consults the pad again. "Anezka. Rojiza, this is Angelique, a friend of mine I met while we were at the Port."

Rojiza dips a small curtsy to Angelique. She takes her pad back and writes.
Ani and I were going to explore the bottom level. Would you like to come?

Reading, Baptiste nods. "I peeked down the stairs earlier today," he says. "It's very dark down there, and it smells awful. But I would be most honored to accompany three lovely mademoiselles on an exploration of our fine vessel."

Kale happily absorbed the compliment. He nodded at each of the other women with his trademark grin, before turning to Grendenla. It was a difficult inquiry to answer. The fox certainly didn't know how to explain the mysteries of the meij to women who weren'teven gypies. He wasn't close to fathoming it himself.

He shuffled on his feet a little as he said, "Well, ma'am, I was a candle when my mama found me, then I was a fox, then I was a baby, then I was a candle again....now I'm just bigger and.. on fire." Kale paused. "I'm a Fortunette." He grinned.

Lorelei canted her head a little. "I've been thinking the same thing. Compared to even the not-so-cryptic fortunes from Aleysius, Fen's was... very obvious. Maybe we're missing something important?"

She hummed a little, reaching over to stroke Vanna's hair, thinking. "... I just can't think of another meaning..."

He glanced up at the approaching mother, trying to convey that he didn't at all mind being 'bothered'. He hoped she wouldn't reproach her daughter too much.
